A few months ago, we found ourselves staring at a colossal challenge: How in the world were we going to get ERC-20 tokens, already deployed on Ethereum, to migrate seamlessly to L2s, specifically Base? It was the height of Meme Coin season, and no one wants to be trading with Ethereum's gas fees. We needed a solution to make tokens more accessible.

Fast forward a few sleepless nights and a few homies working together, we built Base Migrate—the simplest and most efficient way to transfer your tokens to Base. The results? Within 48 hours of launching, over 1 billion USD value of tokens had been migrated to Base!

The overwhelming response reaffirmed our belief that we were onto something special, but we knew there was still more to be done. We continued to refine and expand our solution, driven by the desire to make Base Migrate even better for our users.

And then, an incredible opportunity came our way. We were honoured to receive a Base Builder Grant. This support has been a game-changer, enabling us to push our project even further and bring new features to life. We are beyond grateful for this recognition and the trust placed in us. Connect Your Wallet and GitHub Account

• Wallet Connection: Begin by connecting your digital wallet. Supermigrate supports a variety of wallets, ensuring you can easily link yours with just a few clicks.

• GitHub Integration: Connect your GitHub account. This integration is crucial as it allows Supermigrate to automate the creation of pull requests necessary for updating token lists and finalizing migration processes on L2 repositories.

Selecting the Token for Migration

• Navigate to the ‘Migrate Token’ option within the Supermigrate app.

• Enter the address of the token you wish to migrate. Supermigrate will automatically fetch the current token details from L1, such as token name, symbol, and decimals.

Customization (Optional)

• If your token needs different specifications on L2 (like a different name or symbol), use the "Override" option. This flexibility is especially useful for projects looking to rebrand as they expand to new networks.

Filling Out Social Information

• Provide links to your token’s social media profiles and official website to maintain community engagement and support post-migration.

• Upload your token’s logo in SVG format. This helps in retaining your token’s branding on the new network.

Review and Deploy

• Once you’ve input all the necessary information, review all details for accuracy. Supermigrate will provide a summary of the information you’ve provided.

• Confirm the migration. Supermigrate will then deploy the token contract on the chosen L2 network and handle the necessary pull requests on GitHub to update the token lists.

Tracking Progress

• Supermigrate provides a real-time progress indicator that shows the status of various steps like contract deployment, pull request creation, and finalization of the migration.

• You will receive notifications as each step is completed, keeping you informed throughout the process.

Bridging and Liquidity Provision

• After a successful migration, explore additional features like bridging and liquidity provision.

• If you wish to enable your token for bridging between L1 and L2, navigate to the 'Bridging Interface' where Supermigrate simplifies the process with pre-filled token information.

• To support liquidity, go to the 'Liquidity Interface.' Here, you can add liquidity or manage existing pools, enhancing the market presence and utility of your token on the new network.

This milestone not only demonstrates our platform's capability and reliability but also strengthens our commitment to onboard a billion people onchain. By making it easier for developers to access cheaper networks, we aim to lower the barriers, address the current challenges and fragmentation in the ecosystem moving us closer to our ambitious goals.

Why are we building Supermigrate?

The transition from Layer 1 (L1) to Layer 2 (L2) networks is hindered by a fragmented ecosystem that poses significant challenges for users. This is characterized by the need to interact with multiple interfaces and platforms for different actions, leading to a cumbersome and inefficient migration process.

For instance, a project looking to migrate assets from L1 to L2 may first need to manually deploy a canonical bridged token on the L2 network assets, interact with a separate interface on the L2 network to bridge the assets and finally interact with another interface to provide Liquidity for the just migrated token. Each of these steps involves a different user interfaces, transaction format, and confirmation processes, creating a disjointed experience.

Many of these processes are manual, requiring users to actively monitor and manage each step of the migration. This not only increases the risk of errors but also demands a significant amount of time and attention from users. The lack of automation and integration between different stages of the migration process further exacerbates the complexity, making it difficult for users to seamlessly transition between L1 and L2 networks.

Addressing this problem will lead to a wide adoption of L2s and in turn enable developers to achieve the greater mission of onboarding a billion people onchain.

Supermigrate aims to consolidate all necessary actions for migrating from L1 to L2 into a single, integrated platform. Our goal is to simplify and streamline the user/dev experience and make it simple for projects to get started on new L2 networks, here’s how:

• Deploying Canonical Tokens: We provide a straightforward approach for users to deploy their ERC-20 tokens on L2 networks, enabling projects and individuals to easily transition their assets and take advantage of scalability and reduced costs.

• Bridging Interface: Our platform integrates with the Superbridge app, allowing seamless asset transfers between L1 and L2 networks, enhancing user convenience and system interoperability.

• Liquidity and Incentives: Our platform integrates a liquidity interface that not only simplifies adding liquidity to newly deployed tokens on L2 platforms but also makes it easy for liquidity providers to find promising projects and support them. This interface ensures immediate liquidity for tokens post-migration and incentivizes providers with rewards for their contributions, enhancing both the adoption and functionality of L2 networks.

As Supermigrate continues to evolve, we are excited about the upcoming developments that will enhance access to the next billion joining the onchain era.

Hello Friends --

I write to you today with an aim to begin building in public as we curiously build out the Meliora storyverse.

This concept first began during my time at Kernel in 2021. Initially, hesitation held me back—uncertain about where to start and doubts about potential interest were my main concerns. However, as time has passed, the landscape has evolved and so have I.

The past two years have seen the release of various comic books, from Gitcoin, Pluriverse to independent creations within the NFT space. These works have been fascinating, yet I’d say there will forever be room to tell more stories. Especially those that paint out a vision for the world we wish to see or perhaps, we could even revolutionize the way we gamify onboarding and interaction within the comics themselves.

Inspired by the philosophies of CryptoWanderer one of the main creators of the Kernel curriculum. Our team, driven by curiosity and a passion for web3, has since expanded and refined these ideas based on our observations and experiences. In essence, I'm sharing this manifesto with you all to invite feedback, perspectives, and maybe even your own iterations. My hope is to foster a community that views itself as contributors to, rather than mere consumers of, our peer-to-peer ecosystems.

What's U.pe Up To Now?

Attracting New Contributors by Offering Bounties for Community Information

U.pe immediately set up a bounty system for contributors to share information in their forum. Our goal was to find, confirm, and aggregate the contact information of 50 public service providers, e.g., police, post office, and government offices. U.pe has already completed 75% of these and can be seen listed on the Community Directory. Some information, though, has been challenging to find. In addition to verifying and aggregating critical public service provider information on the U.pe platform, U.pe has upcoming bounties slated for collecting contact information on community organizations and NGOs and a goal of adding 50 events to the Community Calendar monthly. We met our goal in August and are on our way to making quota in the next few months as new contributors join forces.

Collecting Local Feedback and Iterating on Popular Requests

We launched the U.pe forum for contributors in August and are now opening it up for locals to join in community Q&As and browse events and updates. Locals also expressed interest in a digest for community events instead of group chats and multiple social channels, so U.pe has recently created a weekly newsletter that has attracted hundreds of subscribers. The events input by contributors are featured in both the forum and the newsletter.

Building and Reinforcing Community Alliances

Members of U.pe's network have been supporting The Clean Wave since its inception in 2017–well before our inception. Founder Andres Bermudez has a mission to keep every beach in Costa Rica clean. U.pe founder V4N recalls the first time she met Bermudez, "I was a volunteer for one of his cleanups in the town of VillaReal. That area is often overlooked since it's not directly on the beach, and what was cool was he had over 40 volunteers. I was so impressed that he activated that many people for an underserved location."

V4N helped Bermudez set up a web3 wallet, then had him secure his organization's ENS: thecleanwave.eth. Since then, they've been dipping their toes in web3, giving away POAPs to volunteers who participate in the cleanups. They've also teamed up with Seabums NFT project to give away one NFT for every three cleanups.

Bermudez was also one of U.pe's first core contributors, and now some of his volunteers are becoming new contributors to U.pe. In addition to contributors leveraging their networks for community info, the organizations will be unifying to onboard locals to web3 at weekly beach cleanup events.

The Clean Wave and U.pe are also working with local NGOs SalveMonos and Asociación Playa Grande Sostenible to raise awareness about deforestation of the howler monkey habitat and funds for constructing monkey bridges in Playa Grande. About Monkey bridge 411 – Bored Ape #5472 and Mutant Ape #1557 have pledged their support to amplify the message across web3 regen communities.

U.pe + Public Nouns = IRL Impact.

U.pe envisions this initial experiment as the first step in a long-term, strategic partnership with Public Nouns. V4N believes that Public Nouns community ethos aligns with our efforts to create tools local communities need to communicate with and activate their network:

"What I love most about the Public Nouns community is their willingness to share–not just financial resources, but their time and expertise. We had face time this year with many of the holders–at ETH Denver, MetaFest, and DAO Palace–and were able to workshop the experiment so that we had a plan to produce a public good mutually beneficial to both communities."

The event, co-hosted with the support of Costa Rica Regenerative, saw enthusiastic participants planting trees in the Monkey Park located in the scenic Guanacaste. This wasn't just any ordinary park. The Monkey Park doubles as a wildlife reserve where injured or displaced animals are rehabilitated and eventually released back into their natural habitat.

The goal of our recent venture? Reforesting a portion of the park to create a thriving ecosystem for new life.

We were overjoyed to see the turnout, with over 30 dedicated individuals coming out in full support for the cause. Roberto Cespedes, one of the organizers from Costa Rica Regenerativa was thrilled, “The last reforestation day — one of many more to come — marked a milestone in this substantial regenerative project managed by an all-women wildlife rescue center. We planted over a hundred fruit and wood trees during the day and I’m excited to see the saplings grow into a natural refuge for wildlife. Can’t wait for the next one!”

Several attendees came from U.pe’s network - a testament to the trust and sense of community we've been able to foster. And the BEST part! 20 of these eco-warriors are soon to be onboarded to U.pe so they can know when the next local volunteer events are happening. We're not just growing trees, but also our U.pe family!

In total, we planted an impressive 134 trees, ensuring a diverse mix to add to the richness of nature. Here's a quick breakdown:

At its root, U.pe is about giving communities the tools they need to better connect, collaborate, and drive real change with boots on the ground and utilizing the power of blockchain technology. Talk about mass adoption at its core ;)!

Since the 2020 pandemic, many communities across Costa Rica have faced significant infrastructure issues, resulting in fragmented access to essential resources like food, water, and electricity. This lack of connectivity made it difficult for locals to communicate their needs and coordinate solutions. Before U.pe's inception, the founders volunteered to be part of a community operations team for food deliveries to all those who lost their jobs. They developed a web app to track food delivery and assess the needs in each community. Since Costa Rica does not have addresses, the data collected helped NGOs keep track of vital information about each household.

More than 100 volunteers showed up to drive and deliver to neighboring communities. As food packages were being loaded in cars, volunteers were trained on the U.pe app. The information collected was invaluable, and the impact made is beyond measure. The amount of effort locals put into coordinating relief efforts fuels U.pe today.

It became apparent that the beach towns in Guanacaste are full of resourceful, good samaritans. They need the right tools to coordinate and syndicate information.

Upe has been prototyping, deploying, and gathering feedback on tools built using open-source components since 2021. Here's a quick rundown of what U.pe has achieved so far:

• Streamline Local Information: Upe built a progressive web app to make it easy to view real-time, hyperlocal updates without digging through fragmented social media groups or outdated websites. The U.pe platform receives 5-10k unique visitors monthly and has 20+ contributors providing information.

• Foster Real-Time Community Chat: Locals ask for information about weather alerts, power outages, and sharing events in the Upe community forum.

• Syndicate Weekly Digest: Locals who want to keep their finger on the pulse without keeping up with infinite group chats and social channels get a list of community events this week.

• Boost Community Autonomy: Communities own and control their local data on Upe. Locals decide what goes on their community page: no third parties or outside interests.

• Collaborate With Government and Community Organizations: Upe teamed up with Costa Rica's Tourism Ministry and ADI Tamarindo (visitetamarindo.cr/) to promote the country's digital nomad visa and Tamarindo as a destination.

• Embrace Diversity: The U.pe website is available in English and Spanish. Our contributors already showcase 48% women and 30% minorities. But we want to keep improving on inclusion.

Here's where we aim to go:

• Increase Participation: U.pe's blockchain-based incentives engage more users as they progress through roles such as Explorers, Contributors, Local Sherpas, and Community Leaders.

• Facilitate Coordination: U.pe connects like-minded community members and helps coordinate local action.

• Deploy Community-Led Projects: From NGOs to small businesses, U.pe helps communities bring their ideas to life. U.pe is collaborating with local NGOs like The Clean Wave, SalveMonos, Playa Grande Association, and Bored Ape #5472 to raise awareness for howler monkey habitat conservation and crowdfund monkey bridges to counteract deforestation.

Our upcoming Season 2 experiment will showcase U.pe's potential across three local Guanacaste, Costa Rica communities. But this is just the beginning. Our vision is a network of interconnected, self-reliant communities across Latin America.

Get to know the Team:

As a serial entrepreneur and community advocate, Ben brings decades of experience operating several businesses in Costa Rica. He serves as a board member for the ADI Tamarindo and has been instrumental in various community projects. One of his earliest endeavors was a tourist information center. Ben recognized in 2008 that reliable local information was hard to come by–and 15 years later, the situation still has room for improvement. He sees Upe as an opportunity to share relevant information with his local community.

DBrick has been a staple in her Costa Rican community for nearly 20 years. As a creative, she's leveraged artistic talents, mainly as a graphic designer and a little front-end dev work. She uses her tech skills to help local businesses and organizations share and amplify their messages. In January 2011, DBrick inherited Potrero Post, a Tumblr account. The web page listed the important community contacts, upcoming events, and more. She has faithfully continued to maintain this information as a volunteer. Her experience and grassroots network allow her invaluable insights into what her community needs, and like Ben, she believes Upe is developing a tool that is beneficial to her community and others like hers.

Raised in a family-owned surf on the East Coast, Van's community roots are steeped in fun and getting stoked. Finding her constantly in the middle, Van developed a knack for organizing, sharing, and syndicating information amongst her group, where she was a freelance writer in local print and digital publications. Over the years, Van acquired technical skills in front-end web dev, SEO, and social media and started an agency. Her client roster includes local businesses, Fortune 500s, and e-commerce shops. After she moved to Costa Rica, emails poured in from friends, family, and former surf shop customers who wanted information about the area. She decided it would be more efficient to create a website about the community than to keep answering individuals' emails. For Van, Upe is the next logical evolution of the community website built over ten years ago.

4d4n does all of Upe's technical heavy lifting and is responsible for architecting and maintaining the community's tools. If Ben, Van, and DBrick dream it -- 4d4n is the one who codes the solution. Before moving to Costa Rica, he designed and implemented emergency response systems for cities and counties across the United States. His attention to detail and ability to reverse engineer almost anything has been instrumental in everything Upe has shipped. His vision for Upe is to be a community tool that makes hyperlocal information readily accessible to those who need it the most.
