“Are you prepared to do what the 90% are not doing” - question by @TomHougaard

And if so, will you put up with:

discomfort

pain - a lot of it

social and financial costs

Work with me on this. Zag when others zig and you might be onto something or you are just plain crazy.

If you want to make serious money in this space as a trader you either have to be:

early

know the right people

curious and crazy enough to do the opposite trade of others

We've seen how "knowing the right people" can sometimes put you in interesting situations, it's not a bad strategy but not for everyone. You want to be in the 10%, heck, even the 1% if you can, but the truth is:

Most of you won't ever get there.

It’s a Saturday evening as I’m writing this. 9.41pm to be precise. I’m not watching Netflix, I’m here, writing.

I have a routine and have short and mid term goals. Just like you do.

And then, when I could be doing other things, I sit down and write. Even if it sucks.

I’m taking a wild guess and imagine a lot of people are not doing this on their Saturday evening. Perhaps they are happier or luckier. But I’m happy with my decision to follow this routine and write and create this content for you to read.

Does this put me in the 10%? We'll see.

Going against the grain usually comes with the acceptance of discomfort.

Knowing full well that what you’re about to do is going to suck or be painful. But guess what, the more you do this, the better you get at tolerating it.

Exposure to this is the key.

Feelings are not getting smaller, but your brain gets better at decoding them&knowing what to do about them.

Photo by Steve Leisher on Unsplash

Think about it: if you’ve never moved houses in your life then the first house move is going to be very difficult and complicated.

Now, do the above 15 more times and you will have a script to follow.

Yes it will still be difficult, and you might be sentimental, but generally you will be able to tolerate the situation much better because of previous experience.

Do you get my point?

Taking a cold shower for the first time? I avoided it for years. Then when I did it, it was hard but the feeling afterwards was amazing. Am I going to do it again? Hell yes. Will it suck? Of course.

So are you willing and prepared to do what the 90% are not doing?

If you are, strap in. It’s gonna be a hell of a ride. But if you are heading into the direction of your values you’re likely to have the ride of your life.

The discomfort is totally worth it. I'll leave you with a quote from Mary Oliver:

"Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?"

What's going to put you on the side of the 10%?

And how will you consistently take steps to stay there?

Good day my friends🫡

As always, thank you for reading, feel free to connect, subscribe or collect.

But if they do… read on. Not all puppet masters (clinical term is core beliefs) are created equal.

There are good ones:

I’m strong. I’m lovable/likeable. I trust others

And even if you sit with negative ones, you can develop new systems around them which include the above.

It’s not an easy process, however the benefits are endless:

More confidence

Opportunity to experience joy

Deeper, loving connections, relationships, better decisions

Feeling brave to do things that scare you

No brainer isn’t it?!

Every villain has an origin story – and you know how it goes, they don’t start out as bad.

Something happens to them (trauma👀) -> they respond badly because they don’t know anything else.

A negative conclusion is drawn to protect you.

Once again for those in the back: negative beliefs form to protect you from getting hurt.

See, the brain is simple but clever. It wants to avoid pain at all cost.

e.g. “I’m unlovable”

you doubt people’s intentions, perhaps you hold some rules around what you should and shouldn’t do around others

inevitably you are going to close some parts of you off and only show a filtered version

you perfect, you avoid, you criticise yourself and others

The cost of this?

Guess what:

People don’t connect well with polished figures.

Humans want rawness, imperfection and opportunity to connect.

Without realising, your belief is actually stopping you from creating deep loving connections – it becomes your reality.

This is f*cking sad.

Can you see how this is the biggest scam out there?

Your own brain draining you from feeling confident and loved.

We need better security measures, and better ways of working with our negative parts. Something I’m very passionate and confident about - stay tuned for more content around this.

Thanks for reading and feel free to connect, subscribe or collect. Give yourself 5 minutes and then pull the handbrake.

Drop what you are doing, put your phone down, stand up, walk around. Breathe.

Grab some water.

3/Focus

Ask yourself the question: “what do I need right now?”

(generational wealth, I know)

But seriously, what do you need?

break it down into immediate needs: eat, shower, walk etc.

and short/longer terms needs

Can generational wealth wait until you fulfil some of the more immediate needs?

4/Sit

As in, sit and work on bringing your attention back to your centre.

Use resources like body focused meditations, zen practices, whatever works for you.

Talk to a friend as an alternative. Slow down.

5/Goals

Check in with your goals and values.

Is greed feeding into impatience? Do you want to skip over some steps?

How can your goals ground you in your quest today?

Write this down if you can.

Getting used to going through these steps is possible with practice.

Improves your awareness, and provides you with a much better chance at succeeding with your trading ideas (not talking about degen plays necessarily), which will incrementally increase your wallet balance hopefully.

Thanks for reading - feel free to reach out, subscribe or collect.
