In the AI domain, this month has been bustling with notable innovations and updates, especially with new products like Arc Browser making a splash. Launched initially for iOS users at the start of the month and followed by a significant update, Arc Browser distinguishes itself not just through its unique user experience but also its AI-powered functionalities. One of its standout features, "Browse for Me" allows users to conduct searches and receive a summarized web page on the topic instantly, bypassing conventional search engines. Another recent addition, "Pinch to Summarize," enables users to condense any webpage into a summarized card by simply pinching the screen, ideal for those moments when reading a full article isn't feasible.

Meanwhile, in the ChatGPT sphere, there's been a flurry of minor releases and leaks. Recent updates include an enhancement to the GPT Store, introducing five-star ratings and a revamped About page. Additionally, a memory feature has been selectively rolled out, offering a glimpse into future capabilities, though widespread access remains pending. An intriguing development on the horizon is ChatGPT's venture into voice conversations for web, anticipated to mirror the functionality available on mobile platforms.

Google's journey through the month has been a mix of highs and lows, marked by the addition of image generation capabilities to Bart, subsequently rebranded as Gemini, only for the feature to become inaccessible to EU users, an issue that's yet to be resolved. Despite these challenges, Google has pushed forward, releasing the Gemini app for Android and integrating it into the iOS Google app, though not available in the EU yet.

The competitive landscape of AI engines is also witnessing the arrival of new players. Huggingface has introduced a beta version of its open-source assistant, presenting an alternative akin to custom GPTs. Furthermore, ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, has entered the fray with Coze, a platform designed for creating AI bots, signaling its foray into the expanding realm of AI assistants.

In the quieter sphere of Web3, a noteworthy development came from Magic Eden, a renowned cross-chain NFT marketplace that launched its wallet extension. This extension, known for its seamless functionality, encompasses all the anticipated features of a digital wallet while providing comprehensive support for various chains including Solana, Ethereum, and Bitcoin. Users of the extension can enjoy browsing NFTs, token swapping, among other functionalities, directly within the wallet.

Magic Eden further engaged its community by conducting a retrospective airdrop of diamonds, which not only offer benefits on its marketplace but also fuel speculations regarding their necessity for future airdrops. In a parallel stride within the Solana ecosystem, Wrapcast, the leading client application for Farcaster, integrated support for Solana wallets. Initially compatible solely with the Phantom wallet, this integration marks a significant step towards broader Solana support within the app.

An intriguing surge was observed in the domain of Worldcoin, correlating with OpenAI's announcement of its Sora text-to-video model. The price elevation of Worldcoin is primarily attributed to its positioning as a countermeasure against deepfakes, a pertinent issue given Sora's groundbreaking capabilities in AI-generated content. This development has notably increased the value of WLD token grants, which are distributed free to users, now nearing a valuation of 1,000 euros, highlighting the dynamic interplay between AI advancements and Web3 valuations.

Transitioning to our longstanding topic of Web 2.0 and apps, an interesting update came from BlueSky, which has opened its doors wider by removing the invite requirement for new accounts. However, this development has been met with mixed reactions, as many believe that BlueSky's decision came too late, resulting in a loss of initial momentum. This is in stark contrast to Threads, Meta's response to Twitter, which has gained considerable traction in a short span of time.

At TestingCatalog, we've been closely observing and engaging with the Threads app, and an interesting observation has emerged from our experiments. Despite having a relatively modest follower count of 150 on Threads, the engagement in terms of likes is comparable to that on X (formerly known as Twitter), where TestingCatalog boasts a follower base of 3k 🤯

Delving into project updates, I found a proper use for the communities feature on X and decided to dedicate it to project updates for TestingCatalog. This community, prominently featured on the TestingCatalog's X profile, is aptly named TestingCatalog Kiosk, drawing inspiration from the pre-internet era kiosks known for dispensing print newspapers. This space is now a hub for all things related to TestingCatalog updates, and an invitation is extended to all to become part of this growing community.

Secondly, we also shed some light on the publication's mission statement and key aspects of the editorial policy, providing a clearer picture of the publication's ethos and guiding principles.

On the technical front, efforts are being continuously invested in improving tooling for reverse engineering, a facet of the project that has already started yielding promising outcomes. Notably, a recent leak regarding Google's Gemini project garnered substantial attention, achieving around 90 likes, marking it as one of the most popular posts on Twitter for TestingCatalog to date.

Furthermore, there's ongoing work on a novel solution aimed at expanding the TestingCatalog community by attracting more contributors. This forthcoming initiative is poised to leverage AI, promising to enhance the platform's collaborative and content generation processes.

The GPT Store is out! What's next?

Users got access to a huge variety of GPTs and these GPTs became much more refined than before. These GPTs already could work as "AI Agents", supporting us with many different tasks including content creation, coding and much more.

Some of the upcoming features which the OpenAI team is cooking will allow us to work within a single chat from where you will be able to talk to any custom GPT. These conversations will also be Personalised as ChatGPT will learn about you from your chats. GPT's "mention" feature will be a huge change to the way how we work with ChatGPT as it will simplify workflows a lot. It is still unclear how it will perform in real life as it is not yet released but it has a huge potential.

Google's Bard is lagging behind. The leaked "Motoko" feature (GPTs analogy) is not there yet and it is still unclear when it will be released. There have been 0 updates since December.

Grok and Copilot are not more advanced either. Copilot got a mobile app, as well as a bit of announcements about Copilot Pro which doesn't have a release timeline yet.

There are loads of things happening in web3 but for some reason, I cannot name anything exceptional. OpenSea got more user-friendly to non-crypto native people to sign in and buy NFTs, the Wrapcast social app keeps getting new features and Magic Eden is cooking a retrospective Airdrop which I hope I will be able to experience and report about (but only in February).

The most interesting feature for me to explore was HTML NFTs which you can produce on Paragraph and browse on OpenSea over here. I generally believe that NFTs will become the next "print" for media and the importance of publishing on-chain will rise along with AI expansion.

X (Twitter) is evolving super fast and is leaping towards video content. Not 100% sure I like it because I rarely produce videos, but observing this transformation would still be interesting. Especially assuming that video content will potentially grow X's user base and will bring more attention to other accounts.

One significant development that caught my attention was the announcement at OpenAI Developer Day about custom GPTs and the upcoming GPT store. This release marks a significant milestone for AI, offering personalized solutions beyond the capabilities of generalized AI models. This technology has been a game-changer for me, particularly since I've started incorporating shared GPTs into my content creation workflow.

A key tool in my daily routine is the ChatGPT iOS app. Its ability to convert speech to text and images has significantly streamlined my content creation process, enhancing efficiency and facilitating easier content sharing across platforms.

However, challenges remain, such as tackling SEO, an area that has always been a bit tricky for me. The potential of custom GPTs in various applications is immense, and I'm exploring these possibilities with great interest.

I'm also closely monitoring developments on the X Platform. The transparency in gaining followers and impressions, alongside the ongoing problem with bots, remains a focus area for me.

Furthermore, the concept of evolving communities, especially with new features on the X Platform, takes me back to the early days of TestingCatalog on Google+. This connection underscores my current focus on community-driven platforms and technologies.

AI is advancing at an extraordinary pace, and it's likely to accelerate even more in the coming year. This leads me to ponder the future of news consumption and production, especially in a post-AGI (Artificial General Intelligence) world. We can anticipate a significant shift in news media, with AI taking over various aspects including sourcing, curation, content creation, and distribution.

When it comes to sourcing, there's an emerging need for genuine "user experiences" to be shared online. These experiences are crucial before they can be syndicated by AI. In this scenario, the value of "Unique Human" perspectives and "Personal Brands" is set to increase significantly. They will become key differentiators in a landscape dominated by AI-generated content.

In the realm of distribution, the importance of curation and filtering is poised to grow. However, alongside this growth, there are new opportunities for media outlets to become more specialized and detailed on a larger scale. This evolution will enable a higher level of personalization, tailoring content to individual preferences and interests like never before.

With these developments in mind, my focus is on making my user experiences more engaging and valuable to a broader audience. Simultaneously, the reason behind integrating AI into my workflows is to enhance personalization capabilities. The ability to report on a thousand different apps, as opposed to just ten, signifies a monumental change. It's not just about quantity; it’s about providing relevant and personalized content at an unprecedented scale, which will become increasingly vital in the long run.

The AI arena has been buzzing with advancements this past month. The friendly rivalry between Bard and ChatGPT is really heating up. Despite Bard's strides, its model plays catch-up, often producing fabricated responses. Google is certainly going to need to amp up its model training to stay competitive. The wave of AI is swiftly sweeping across every product, and tech departments everywhere are exploring ways to integrate AI into their products and processes—I'm no exception.

While Bard AI is worth a try (you can use a free VPN to access it from a US IP), I wouldn't necessarily label the experience as exhilarating. On the other hand...

Google's innovative Search Labs and Generative Search Experience are now accessible to U.S. users, bringing a new dimension to user experience with enhanced AI integration. For those outside the U.S., these features are available via VPN. Despite these advancements, Google is diligently working to minimize the impact on SEO, demonstrating a commitment to a balanced and stable transition.

ChatGPT is a whole different story. Its plugins are highly potent, giving ChatGPT the ability to access the most recent information. The voice-to-text feature in the ChatGPT mobile app is the finest I've encountered, enabling a fascinating conversation with ChatGPT that elevates the experience. ChatGPT Plus is a valuable investment right now for anyone, especially for those eager to explore its Beta features. The GPT4 model is significantly superior to GPT3.5. If you're an iOS user located in a region where the ChatGPT app is available, I highly recommend giving it a try—even without ChatGPT Plus.

The Web3 space continues to be a hub of fascinating new experiences that are a thrill to test. Recently, I received an invite to Farcaster Network, an interesting platform that links your wallet to your profile, providing easy access to NFTs and a seamless integration with Paragraph. This is currently by invitation only, but I've requested some invites for our community—keep an eye on the Early Access section for updates. Additionally, the Floor NFT and ETH portfolio app has expanded to SOL, and the Phantom wallet for SOL has become multi-chain with added ETH support.

However, the most intriguing app I've tested lately is Worldapp, founded by OpenAI's CEO. This blockchain-based app allows you to verify your identity by interacting with an Orb. Currently, without verification, you can mainly explore their concise web3 educational materials. They've announced an upcoming integration with ENS that will allow you to attach your identity and exchange assets with others. This project is being marketed as a solution to prove humanity in the rapidly advancing AI era. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they'll make a stop at Web3 Berlin as part of their Worldcoin summer tour, giving me the chance to try it out. In any case, it's certainly a project worth following.

Web2, in my view, has been somewhat stagnant for over a year now, failing to bring any substantial innovation or excitement. In 2022, we witnessed a flurry of web2 apps attempting to integrate web3, and now we're seeing the same trend with AI. It's only just begun, but I'm confident we'll soon be seeing an abundance of copilots and AI assistants embedded in Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat, Telegram, and other social media platforms.

Twitter is currently undergoing an interesting transformation, but none of its features stands out as particularly innovative. Meanwhile, Meta continues to borrow features from Telegram, this time with Broadcast channels. Discord is finally getting proper usernames, and WhatsApp now has message editing. Groundbreaking, right? (Yes, that's sarcasm).

TestingCatalog Updates

I'd like to take a moment to share a few updates on three different topics:

Newsletter

After considering various platforms like Paragraph, Beehive, Substack, and Ghost, I've chosen Paragraph, and I'm delighted with its free and web3-enabled offerings like collectables and forecaster integration. I also discovered a popular newsletter titled ICYMI, which led me to reevaluate and rename mine. Now, it's called NFTT—"New Features to Try"—which I believe best encapsulates its purpose. All the features I highlight are ones I've personally experienced and am eager to share with you.

Regarding the newsletter's structure, while I'll continue to use Tiers to prioritize which apps to test, I don't find this division useful for the newsletter. From now on, I think AI, web3, and web2 sections will be more relevant. This is mainly due to the fact that I'm now publishing 3-5 posts a day on average, rather than the previous 1-2. And here's why:

Publishing Pipeline

As I've previously shared on Twitter, I've been able to leverage ChatGPT-4 to automate my publishing pipeline. While I still test everything and share my experiences, the real magic happens in the automated workflow that follows. There's so much more that can be done with automation, and this is one reason why the launch of the Discord server has been slightly delayed.

I aim to automate content curation from external links on Twitter, blogs, and news websites. This will take some time to implement and cost estimate. However, the main reason for the delay is that I anticipate having more free time in June and want to ensure I can warmly welcome the TestingCatalog community during the launch and maintain a high level of engagement.

On the bright side, this gives you more time to collect newsletter posters, which will secure your access to all gated channels on the TestingCatalog Discord.

TestingCatalog Update

And last but not least, some updates regarding TestingCatalog itself.

1. I am still mostly polishing the Discord server, experimenting with it as a content curation platform. So far, it helps a lot with categorising news from different sources under a specific changelog per app.

2. Next newsletter very likely won't be comprehensive and this curated content will rather stay in the Discord itself. On the other hand, there will be more content which is appealing to an audience to whom I belong - content creators who produce text-based content. Should I just say "bloggers"?

3. At the same time, I am also working on building an automated content publishing pipeline which can rely on AI support. This will allow TestingCatalog to scale its curation capabilities (now I am mostly curating what I see and there are loads of things which I don't).

4. SEO, will be another item on which I am willing to focus a bit more now. Cuz it is better sooner than later 🫠
