In 387 BC, the academy already existed in the world. Famous philosopher such as Aristotle and Heraclides entered the Platonic Academy in Athens with the founder Plato to study. However, after thousands of years, education has become a lucrative business in many countries. And the world is defined as needing only one product: the standard expectation of success. If you can't climb a tree, you are defined by the world as a failure. So these educational systems are designed to ensure that students receive a well-rounded education that is ready for our labour market.

But our education of this generation has obviously deteriorated, and the totalitarian states teach the next generation an incorrect history through education; Most people think that wealth is directly proportional to education, but graduate students (master's or doctoral degrees) often have more student loans than college students in four-year institutions; Robert Kiyosaki, the one of author of Rich Dad Poor Dad who points out that the current education system does not teach everyone how to be rich; Our current education system is facing three major problems: student loan, employment and the credential society.

1. Student loan

The capitalist economic crisis in 2008 has quietly entered its 12th year, United States, as the core country of this economic shock, its political effect was fully demonstrated through the election of Donald Trump as US president three years ago, and the problem of student loans for college students and graduate students in the United States actually surfaced as early as during the Obama administration.

In November 2011, following the Occupy Wall Street movement, a movement called "The Occupy Student Debt Campaign" took place in Manhattan. The demands of this movement are roughly divided into two levels: The high-level demand is to call on the federal government to write off student loans and provide free college education; Another demand is financial transparency for state and private universities, and at least zero interest rates on student loans if tuition fees are paid.

2. Employment

Aside the issue of the student loan, what is more realistic is that after 5 to 10 years when college students graduated, they may not be able to keep up with the development of the industrial environment because of what they have learned in school.

According to the Pew Research Center (PEW): Taking the data of 2014 as an example, Also out of college, African-American parents earn $24,000 less per year than Caucasian. If reflected in wealth, the situation may be even more impressive. Christopher Ingraham, a big data reporter for The Washington Post, pointed out that statistics since 1990 show that the property of African Americans is only about 1/8 to 1/6 of that of Caucasian.

Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, and Mark Zuckerberg, all famous people who are starting their own businesses without finishing their college, and Tim Cook of CEO of Apple, also said that skills like coding may not be available in college. In recent years, Tech Giants such as Apple, Google, and IBM have even announced that hiring people will no longer require a four-year college degree. Not to mention the nascent industry of the crypto world is the last place that schools, traditional tech giants and governments want us to know about and that's where the talent is the most lacking.

3. “The Credential Society”

Professor Randall Collins, a sociologist at the University of Pennsylvania, said in his book of The Credential Society: “upper classes have created a social atmosphere for young people that "going to college is necessary”. Under this social pressure, "college student" has become a distinctive identity —— for this identity, you can ignore the financial cost you have to pay.

A college degree has long been a personal investment target associated with "middle-class life" and has become an important part of the upward movement. Under such social pressure, people create a social environment for young people in which "going to university is necessary".

The Akadimia

When everyone in society participates in the money game, the value of society instead is to use “Money” as a measure, the gap between the rich and the poor and social unrest will begin as a result.

In contrast to ancient times, the Platonic Academy in Athens was open to the public (even if the main students were from the upper classes), But at least in that time, it didn't charge a fee from students. Also, schools also didn't have any specific teachings to teach, and everyone raised problems that needed to be studied and solved by others.

But now, thing has changed after Bitcoin, cryptocurrencies have proven their possibilities in the world, and the blockchain technology also jumped on the stage and showed it to the public. We see talented people entering Web3 one after another, participating in NFTs, GameFi and even DAOs, and making Web3 full of possibilities.

On the other hand, we are convinced that the current education system will not fully educate our next generation about cryptocurrency history, programming and Web3, and there will be only a few children to learn it through their parents. But we all know many novel ideas are yet to emerge in Web3, which also needs to be discovered by young people, so this is why education matters.

Vision

Our vision at The Akadimia is to bring education back to educators and the general public, rather than an institute or training school, where students don't have to pay high tuition fees to just buy "a piece of paper”. Together we will write the consensus rules that will bring the first academy-governed team to the DAO as first participants, then students, and now public.
