Now that California became the 3rd state to pass a right-to-repair bill for electronics, I decided to look back in history to see how repairable (according to iFixit) iPhones were in the last 10 years.

Apple has started to adapt to the new right-to-repair law of California. This means that for every new iPhone, Apple has to provide replacement parts for 7 years. In 2030 you can still repair your iPhone 15 with new parts.

Buying iPhones second-hand means

• iPhone models which are 2-3 years old are still very good for much less money

• Your pre-owned iPhone will receive iOS updates (Apple supports every iPhone with 6+ years of updates)

• You'll be able to repair your pre-owned iPhone for much less money also

after 2.5 months of development and preparation, the new and much improved version of Ventrace is ready to be tested for the 2nd time.

What’s new

I have read and analyzed all results of the first public testing, which resulted in the following improvements now included in the new version:

1. Redesigned and re-written the copy of the landing page

   • Also added animations and explainers

2. Redesigned and improved the Record detail page

3. An easier UX to connect your wallet to Ventrace

4. A dispute feature to report and manage fake information on Ventrace

   • Available to all Record owners

5. An easier UX on the Support page

6. Added a “Getting started” page for new Record creators

What’s next

This version of Ventrace will be publicly tested as well. I’ll also start to be more active on social media and maybe try out a few mentions about Ventrace.

After 2 weeks I will collect all results and get back in front of my development environment to work on the next version. The road to perfection takes a lot of discipline and patience.

Expectations

When you develop a dApp for so long and stare at the same pages over and over again, you get used to the looks and behaviours of what you see. It might even be true that I started to ignore or forget things about Ventrace, which I actually wanted to fix or solve.

Therefore I fully expect that there are some major flaws with the current state of Ventrace, which need immediate fixing.

Time window

I will collect feedback from several pro testers for the next two weeks. After that, I will compile a list of the most urgent problems and start working on them asap.

Ventrace is the future

In my opinion, Ventrace is one of the first dApps which really leverage the blockchain technology for a real-life use case. Aside from that, Ventrace itself is amazing. The ability to search for a product and see it’s history is just 👌.
