Looking back on past Nouns' prop.house rounds I get a general sense that we funded a large quantity of projects but not many had meaningful or long lasting impact for the ecosystem. In these Garden Rounds I will try to avoid ideas that were already tried or one-and-done type of proposals. Instead I will look for innovative ideas or ones that have a strong execution plan, vision for the future and can effectively proliferate/onboard new members.

Before jumping in I would like to say thank you to all the proposers for putting in the effort to create and submit their proposals. I appreciate the dedication it takes and your interest in building with Nouns.

Disclaimers:

• These are *roughly* in the order they were submitted and were numbered as such.

• Reasonings that were referenced and applied to many different proposals are in bold.

• Most of the proposals received no votes. We had a huge turnout and only 2 are awarded, I chose to throw my vote weight on only 2 proposals (#17 and #40).

#1 Buidler - (No Votes)

The idea here is interesting, I would've liked to see more context and details in general. There is no mention of how the funds will be used, will the 5 eth finance the whole project? Also would've have liked to see how nouns would be integrated into the project. In public software projects like this I like the approach of adding a "Funded by Nouns" tag on the branding, much like ethOS are doing with their project.

#2 Pumpkin and crow noun statue - (No Votes)

The sculptures are interesting, but not exciting enough to me particularly. Nouns also recently funded a sculpture by another artist, I don't see a need for more investment in this area now. (reasons given on #10 also apply here)

#3 A Brief History of Nouns Booklet - (No Votes)

This proposal lacks a lot of information for me to form a proper opinion on it. Some of the details I would've liked to see are: vision for the content, past work, experience within the web3 space (especially with nouns), plans for publishing, marketing, and so on.

#4 PHEN X NOUNS - (No Votes)

I like the art style, but not clear plan and integration with nouns. Based on the last image I'll say I'm not a fan of simply slapping noggles on top of stuff. I'll also refer back to my earlier points of wanting to see more thought-out execution with these props, having clear objectives and an execution plan. (reasons given on #10 also apply here).

#5 Nouns AI: a Short Film, an Artistry Wing, and a Merch Proposal - (No Votes)

Great intentions and well written proposal. Wanted to see examples of what the content produced would like and your prior involvement with Nouns. Would've also liked to see your vision on how this project would have a lasting impact in the Nouns ecosystem.

#6 Identity and reputation for Nouners - (No Votes)

Heard this proposal live on Toady's twitter space which always helps to get a more nuanced view of a proposal. That being said my feeling is that we have funded several clients and nouns centric software this year already. I believe we should focus on improving the many we have rather than keep branching out to new projects. At this point this is a category I am not particularly interested in. (reasons given on #20 also apply here).

#7 MEGA NOUNS - (No Votes)

I value the reach we would get but not specifically interesting for this round, overall felt a disconnect with the Nouns vibe and culture. Also believe there could be more deliverables for the amount being funded. (reasons given on #10 also apply here)

#8 Furry Nouns Helpers - (No Votes)

Truly appreciate the cause, however the proposal lacks basic details in several key areas of information for me to properly form an opinion on it.

#9 Let's use Takumi-san, a life traveler, to spread Nouns more in Japan! - (No Votes)

Nouns in Japan have been doing a great job overall, I'm just not sure how much these actions will be converted into new people knowing about Nouns and being interested in joining the ecosystem. Also would've liked to understand more what is the involvement with pNouns and how this differs from the things we are already doing in Japan. I don't think we ever funded a single spokesperson for the DAO. For that model I would prefer to see someone with a larger online following with a larger guaranteed audience.

#10 Garden by Wosnan - (No Votes)

I personally really love the art style here, very unique and weird in a nounish way, if that makes sense. That being said I will refer back to my overarching goals with the Garden Rounds of funding projects that can achieve long lasting impact as well as proliferation and onboarding. This will likely apply to many similar art proposals which I would categorize as a one-and-done kind of deal. Which is not to say that they shouldn't be funded, but rather not what I believe we should be striving for in these rounds (at least for now).

#11 Nouns x Toadz Mural for Art Basel 2023 - (No Votes)

Even though it is a bigger "venue" with more eyeball this proposal is very similar to #10, the same reasoning also applies for me here.

#12 ⌐◧-◧ The Nouns Cup! | Art Basel Miami ⚽ - (No Votes)

I can appreciate the nounish vibes created at these events, but it is still too small niche in relation to what we can fund in these rounds. It also falls under the one-and-done category which is outside of what I'm looking for. Lastly, the proposal doesn't got into how the funds will be used or how they are necessary for Nouns to participate in this event.

#13 Nouns Hackathon LA - (No Votes)

Proposal lacks basic details in several key areas of information for me to properly form an opinion on it.

#14 nouns.zone - Farcaster client for Nouns

I would prefer to follow a model of retro funding if the client has demand for it. See #6 and #20 for more details.

#15 Nouns App Farcaster Feed: Cozy&Community-Governed

Same as similar proposals, not willing to fund Nouns software and clients in this round. See #6 and #20 for more details.

#16 W3 ARE SO BACK podcast powered by Nouns

Podcasts and spaces are a very saturated market, even within Nouns. I also see this as an applicable case of building first and, if successful, requesting funding for continuation and expansion.

#17 VLOG: Nounish Legends Meet - (2 Votes)

I'm a fan of this project. The episodes are well thought-out and engaging. Done properly we have a chance at appealing to a broader audience, outside of our ecosystem. I also really like the value offered by this prop, it seems we are getting a good return for what is being funded.

I would just make sure there is a proper strategy to onboard new people to Nouns, it is not enough to just have noggles on top of everything. There needs to be a mechanism to explain how a web3 project is facilitating these kind of ideas and projects and how they can get involved too.

Still, I'm happy to give them a chance and see how this series performs. The team is competent and have proven themselves as strong builders with Nouns at the core of their intent.

#18 Nounish Beach Cleanups in Brazil - (No Votes)

I like that the team has a strong plan to execute the whole project, including actions to bootstrap the beach cleanups into a strong marketing campaign and onboarding tool for Nouns. This still falls into the category of one-and-done which is not what I'm looking to fund in this round. One suggestion would be to possibly add a few more beach clean-ups within the budget and spread them out during a longer time frame, that way we can keep the momentum going for longer. Open to voting for it in future rounds.

#19 NOUNish Plush - (No Votes)

I know Pudgy's had a huge success with their line, but don't think we should necessarily try to follow suit, let's do our thing. Klim is a great and proven builder for nouns, but I don't think this is the right time for this idea. We have the mini figurines currently in the works and I would like to see the outcome of that endeavor before branching out.

#20 continuation of nouns.center - (No Votes)

I appreciate this proposal and definitely see the merits of it. I used nouns.center a lot during this year myself. However, I am not particularly interested in any further funding more nouns centric clients, there is simply too much that was recently funded and is in the works now in this category - some examples are cc0-lib.wtf; updates.wtf; voter.wtf; nouns.camp. Also a big fear I have is what happened to some other similar projects which after initial funding no further support was given and the project was just abandoned.

I believe the best path for the many of these software and client proposals we got is to launch it and request retro funding if the demand is there. There are many different teams working on similar things and the market is oversaturated. (reasons given on #6 also apply here).

#21 Daily NOUNS Participate in exhibitions with Resin toy ⌐◨-◨

This is a very cool niche project, I can sense the passion from the proposer. Unfortunately I don't think it's the right fit for this round as I'm looking for projects that can have a larger impact in terms of proliferation and onboarding.

#22 Upgrading and Keeping Up the Nouns Center - (No Votes)

Very similar proposal to #20, same reasons apply.

#23 Nounish Hackathon Mexico City ⌐◨-◨ - (No Votes)

Would like to focus on specific ideas and projects rather than a hackathon like event that will have a similar function and goals as this current round.

#24 NOUNish Ski Film! - (No Votes)

While I don't question the quality and reach of this proposal, I would rather be funding projects that are fully dedicated to this garden round and have a stronger connection to Nouns in general. As per the prop's description "prominent Nouns logos to be featured" isn't really exciting enough. I believe this proposal is a better fit for Gnars and Alps DAO which would still be under the Nouns ecosystem.

#25 Lil Bevs ⌐◨-◨ - (No Votes)

I like the product design and the overall vision for the project. The only thing missing from this proposal are the KPIs from previous endeavors. I would like to know what are the success metrics we are looking to achieve with this new product. Willing to fund this in later rounds.

#26 Web3 Citizen Guide: Understanding Nouns DAO Governance in 2023 - (No Votes)

Very interesting concept, I don't believe we have yet achieved a solid onboarding experience for people trying to come into the Nouns ecosystem. Not that we should have just one, but at least a few good starting avenues. Even though I like the concept of a Nouns Guide, this proposal lacks details on execution and vision of success for me to consider it at this point.

#27 A Nounish International Exhibition + Workshop Tour - (No Votes)

Proposal doesn't go into how Nouns would be integrated into these events or any other proliferating/community onboarding. Overall I would rather fund nounish focused events or ones that can reach a bigger audience.

#28 Social Media Audit & Action plan to develop Nounish Instagram & Youtube audience - (No Votes)

Maybe nounish is already working on this kind of metrics? Either way I believe this should be directly offered to them or any other relevant communities within Nouns rather than being it's own separate project.

#29 How the Nouns push the NFT industry forward - (No Votes)

Had a tough time understanding this proposal and it's concepts. Overall sentiment is that it's not aligned with Nouns' vision and culture.

#30 Prop house outreach and Nounish Values - (No Votes)

Not a fan of this proposal. Definitely feels like it was written with chatGPT. A lot of words are there but nothing of meaning is actually said.

#31 ⌐◨-◨Nouns DJ party in Japan! - (No Votes)

Very lacking in all kinds of key information. No way to properly assess. Although I should say I don't see projects this small in size as strong candidates for these rounds.

I really like this project. Even though it is a niche subject I like how unique it is. I see a strong group of people who are executing well on their objectives. Sometimes it's hard to put it in words, but I get a strong nounish vibe.

Before voting for this proposal I would like to have more information such as: Which members of the team are more involved with Nouns and who they are? Could we see a previous issue of the magazine? Are there other ways we can further incorporate Nouns? Any plans to create further content around this partnership? Content around the launch of the next issue could be valuable. Would also like to see a more fleshed out plan of how Nouns will be presented in the first page, a mock up and more detailed ideas would be great.

#36 10 Hospitals + Shelters Nouns Activation - (No Votes)

Would've liked to see more details all around- What would these activations look like? What parts of the hospital would be activated? Are there any plans for capturing content around this project? - I want to know how we can bootstrap these actions towards Nouns engagement and recognition.

#37 Nouniverse Adventure: A Nostalgic Point-and-Click Journey - (No Votes)

We have other projects in the works in the gaming front. I would like to see how they perform with the Nouns audience before investing in brand new projects.

#38 Turn my co-working space into a Nouns Working Space ⌐◨-◨ - (No Votes)

Interesting concept and an interesting case for Nouns to share. That being said I am looking for proposals that will have a more generalized impact rather than localized one-off projects.

#39 Nouns First Official Spotify Drop- A Nouns hip-hop mixtape - (No Votes)

Music is certainly an area that's not been well explored by Nouns and certainly deserves more attention. For this proposal I wanted to see more on the artists, what have they produced in the past? Also how will the project be integrated with Nouns? Will the songs be about Nouns? The budget seems high for what will be delivered. I would prefer if some of it was used in a strong marketing campaign.

#40 NounsCraft: a Nouns Community Minecraft Server - (8 Votes)

The best proposal of this round in my opinion. Checks all the boxes I'm looking for: uniqueness, longevity, proliferation, onboarding, nounish values and community building.

The one thing I'll emphasize is the importance of creating content around this server. It would be amazing to reach the broader MC community and be able share what Nouns is doing with that audience. Minecraft has a huge viewership on youtube, maybe we could partner with some creators to bootstrap visibility.

RFG clearly has the capabilities to execute on this idea and is an established member of our community which makes me confident in funding her in this round.

#41 Everyday, Nounish artworks! - (No Votes)

I appreciate the idea and commitment but I just don't see this project having a significant impact for Nouns. Looking for projects that can reach a larger audience.

#42 100 GIFS in 100 DAYS - NOUNS GIF COLLECTION - (No Votes)

GIFs are a valuable resource and one we use a lot to communicate with, however a lot of teams are working on nounish gifs or have been funded to create them. Not the type of proposal I'm looking to fund in this round.

#43 Introducing "NounishCast" ⌐◨-◨ 🎙 Like Spotify, but with AI and super short! - (No Votes)

Not a particularly exciting idea to me. Market is oversaturated and I question the audience this would get.

#44 Nouns Decentralized Charity - (No Votes)

No info on the team or who is submitting this proposal. Either way there isn't really a need for this product in the Nouns ecosystem.

#45 Raising awareness about Nouns ⌐◨-◨ in Thailand. - (No Votes)

Appreciate the work put into the submission. However the project doesn't have a solid plan of its actions. What is proposed is very loose and won't necessarily have a meaningful impact for the DAO. This proposal is also similar to #9 as in funding someone to essentially be a spokesperson for the DAO which is not a model I'm currently in favor of.

#46 LIL $SCOOP PROLIFERATION - (No Votes)

I couldn't get excited with this submission. Very small and niche project that's not really suited for this round. I would encourage working on the quality of the materials presented.

#47 People, Places and Things - (No Votes)

It is an interesting concept, however it is similar in nature to updates.wtf which was just funded. See reasons given on #6, #20 as it also applies here.

#48 A decentralized NFT lottery DApp for nouns ecosystem - (No Votes)

It feels like this proposal was written for LilNouns. Reasons given on #6, #20 and #68 apply here.

Needed to see a bigger overarching plan of success for this product. What's the market need for it? How will it be marketed? What is Nouns involvement? and so on.

#50 NOUNS x TEMP CHEK: Mycoredemiation Initiative | A Short Film - (No Votes)

I had a tough time understanding the overall vision and goals of the team with this project. The text is dense and confusing making it hard to grasp the concepts presented. Also didn't see enough efforts in integrating Nouns to the project or how we can reach a larger audience.

#51 [ObentoNouns⌐◨-◨]instagram account is expanding awareness of Nouns worldwide! - (No Votes)

Same proposer as #31 & #32 and #34, out of all of them this one is the only one that is somewhat interesting. It's a fun niche project, but not right for this round.

Had a hard time understanding what exactly the product is and how innovative and impactful it really is. With the way the information was presented I couldn't properly form an opinion on it.

Great intentions by the team, however not convinced of the impact and reach we will get with these activations, especially in relation to the amount being offered by this round.

I would've liked to see more information on the team. Are they experienced in creating courses? What is the platform for consuming this content? What are the plans to reach the target audience? #56 NOUNS D.I.Y. SKATEBOARD CHALLENGE - (No Votes)

3rd-eye is an accomplished builder for Nouns and has been making waves in the Gnars and Brazilian scene. That being said, I don't think this specific proposal is right for this round. As mentioned earlier I am looking at proposals that will have longer lasting impacts.

Even though I never interacted directly with the proposer I witnessed some very despicable behavior from them in the Nouns Video Contest discord server after his entry was not selected, which included profanity and disrespect to organizers and fellow competitors. For this reason I don't beleive they are the right kind of builder for Nouns.

I for one am against linking Nouns to any type of coin or currency. I believe it is outside of our ethos. I don't want to go near ponzinomics, gambling and other negative concepts seen in many NFT/web3 projects that Nouns successfully strayed away from so far. I would prefer to keep that door shut.

As some of you may know, I've recently had my very first proposal on-chain, Prop 340. The pitch was to create the first Nouns animated series. We had a great vision and a fantastic team, but unfortunately, it didn't quite go our way.

I believe this was partially due to the state of the DAO, with a sizable portion of voters defaulting to vote against. However, we also received a significant number of genuine "no" votes with valuable feedback. Currently, we're back to the drawing board, exploring how to improve and consider the viability of a version 2.

The next topic is proposal 354, which introduces the infamous FORK 🍴. Due to the importance of this proposal, I'll be changing the usual structure of the newsletter and solely focus on this proposal and its implications. Let's dive in!

Proposal 354 - Voting FOR

Nouns DAO V3 upgrade, including Nouns Fork

A note on the proposal:

There are many features being proposed here, only one of which is the fork. While I understand this was done for practical reasons, such as audits, costs, and implementation, I believe that a topic as contentious as the fork should have been its own separate proposal.

Because of its importance and overall impact on the DAO the only feature I'll actually be analyzing and deliberating on is the fork, and I expect many others will do the same. Which defeats the purpose of bundling in the other suggested features.

On the fork:

This has been a topic of discussion since I first joined the DAO some 8 months ago.

From my first hearing of it I was fundamentally against it, questioning why we should allow people to exit the DAO at the cost of the treasury and in detriment of the DAO's objectives. There was never a promise of a claim to the treasury. When you purchase a Noun you are purchasing the art and one vote.

If we compare it to other NFT projects there isn't anything similar. If the price of your asset drops, you can't just take back your investment because you changed your mind. Investing comes with risks, and that's how it goes.

Later, I came to know one of the counter arguments, which is that a fork is more cultural in its nature. It suggests that DAOs should allow for forks in case a group of people don't agree with the direction that's being taken and want to try a different approach. This is aligned with Web3's permissionless and decentralized nature which Nouns support.

While those are valid points, the truth is that it's not the case here. Some may really be unsatisfied with the DAO's direction, but I don't believe there is a single one interested in running a separate version of Nouns. Their interest is to simply "sell" their Nouns at a better price than the secondary market, which is the "book value". Nothing more.

So if that is the real reason and demand for such a fork, why should Nouns jeopardize its treasury and objectives to facilitate that? Well, the answer, at least for me, is that we shouldn't. The secondary market already fulfills the role of an exit well enough.

I believe another reason why people support the fork is that it's the fastest way to eliminate what some would call "bad apples" from the DAO. People that, for some, are hindering the progress of Nouns and going against its ethos. With a fork, they could easily exit, and Nouns would return to what the vision of those people for the project is.

Now, that is an even worse argument. It goes against the premise of what a DAO is. We are meant to be a decentralized organization and people disagreeing is just part of it, maybe even the fun of it. I would much rather be working on these issues as a community instead of just separating. It's all part of the experiment.

My position:

So how come am I voting FOR this proposal? Well, things have changed a lot since from when a fork was just an idea to where we are now.

One of those things being a problem created by its own self. Arbitrageurs. With discussions around the fork and the likelihood of it, some folks started to notice an opportunity to buy nouns below the "book value" and then exit with the fork, making a profit in eth.

Now there is a much higher number of people interested in leaving the DAO, no matter what. This is one of the things that I dislike the most, because now we have a significant number of people that don't have the slightest interest in Nouns, what it is and what we are trying to achieve. Effectively, they can hold the DAO hostage.

This is the main reason for me voting in favor. Staying as we are is no longer viable. The hindrance to governance would be too high, and we are already seeing this. If a fork were to not pass, things would just get worse: proposal spamming, default no votes, attempts to raid the treasury, etc. I truly dislike the position the DAO is currently in, but at this point, I believe there is no better solution than to fork.

I honestly don't know how all of this will play out. But I can say it does not diminish my passion for Nouns. There are so many great things going for it - Innovation, community, public goods, proliferation, technology and so on. I am excited to keep working on it.

At the end of the day Nouns is one big experiment, and I can say, if nothing else, it has been entertaining.

Nonetheless we are back and still very excited for everything that is happening in the Nouniverse.
Before looking at the latest DAO proposals I want to highlight some of the positive things that happened in this period.

1. Winning the "Nouns 200k Video Contest":
   Me and a team of builders were recently voted as one of the 4 winning entries for the Nouns video contest!! Below I will go a bit into the details around the production of the film.
   
   Around the beginning of February I discovered the Nouns Video contest that would award $50K to 4 short videos about Nouns, voted by Nouners.
   I thought this would be a great opportunity to start building and contributing to the Nouns ecosystem. So I contacted a close friend of mine who owns an animation production company, pitched him the idea, and we started working on the project.
   We ended up working with over 17 people in the creation of the movie and I believe we achieved a great result; a video that engages people in a fun way and piques their curiosity to know more about Nouns. You can watch the video here.

2. IRL events:
   During the past few weeks I've also attended a few IRL events here in Brazil where I got to meet a lot of great people and talk about Nouns.

   • First was PizzaDay POA. I was invited to speak at this event by fellow nounish builder @Akva.
     In the panel we talked about my journey with Nouns and how I fell in love with the concept of the whole project, as well as details around the production of our video contest entry.

   • Next was NFT.Brasil. This event was a whole vibe <3, it felt like the whole brazilian community was there.
     We had 2 Nouns related talks by @Aubtoshi @Cheffo and @JP @DebInvest and I have to say they absolutely killed it, representing Nouns so so well.
     Everybody at the event was intrigued by Nouns and we saw so many people repping the noggles around the venue.
     It really hits differently to see all of what Nouns is building being manifested out there, irl.

     

   • Lastly was Road to Web3, where I was invited by BrPunk to participate in a panel about Nouns DAO. Here we got to talk with @Danimim, @Guriba and @Kome about some very interesting topics surrounding governance and the Nouns ecosystem. I was very pleased with our panel and the whole event.

I can't say how happy I am to be ever more involved in the Nouns ecosystem and to represent it wherever I go.
With all the news out of the way let's take a look at the latest proposals from the DAO.

Proposal 314 - Voting FOR

Retro Fund Voter.wtf

TL;DR - Retro fund 10 ETH to Wilson Cusack (proposer) for work on Nouns governance client, voter.wtf. - Ask: 10 ETH.

Huge props to Wilson, voter.wtf is an amazing voting suite. Navigation is fast and seamless while presenting the information in a way that's easy to follow.

Proposal 315 - Voting AGAINST

NounsTennisFam

TL;DR - NounsTennisFam is set to revolutionize the tennis industry through blockchain technology and democratization of the sport by providing fair compensation for investors and talent. - Ask: $200,000.

I will start off by saying I really like the idea of Nouns sponsoring athletes in extremely popular sports. I believe having the noggles on jerseys is an effective proliferation tool and a way to gain global awareness. Even if it's just on a subconscious level we would be exposing the noggles to a huge audience.

That being said I have a few issues with this prop. Mainly I sensed a disconnect from Nouns, it feels a bit like Nouns is being used as a stepping stone. I would've liked to see more on how one would collaborate with the other and how the project would incorporate nounish values.
Also would've been nice to see some engagement from Borna and other players, showing interest in Nouns and in this partnership.

A note on the proposal itself - it goes on too many tangents and makes it hard to follow exactly what is being asked and its objectives.
Voting against right now, but open to revisit if the issues are addressed.

Proposal 316 - Voting FOR

Expanding Global Distribution of Lo-Fi Noggles

TL;DR - 25K+ Lo-Fi Noggles to supply large-scale IRL events. - Ask: $57,000.

This is important to keep building brand awareness. As I've mentioned earlier, I've been to a few IRL events recently and people really embrace the noggles and the fun around it, even if they aren't involved with the project. This is one of the best things going for DAO and we need to keep it rolling.

My only feedback on the proposal is that it's not clear whether Nounswork is getting paid for this work. If they aren't I think they definitely should be, but either way I would've preferred more clarity there.

Proposal 317 - Voting FOR

Nouns : A Movie - Chapter 2 ⌐◨-◨

TL;DR - Nouns Movie Pilot episode with runtime of 4:30 mins released on June 21st, 2023. This specific prop is seeking funding to create Episode 2 with a run-time of 10.5 -11 mins delivered at the end of 100 days. - Ask: $375,000.

The team did a great job with the pilot for the movie. They were very engaged with the community throughout the process and they delivered a very high quality movie.

Let's allow them to continue to create this film and add to the worldbuilding of Nouns.

Proposal 318 - Voting AGAINST

Nouns Game Publisher: Changing the Game

TL;DR - Invest 199 ETH in the Games category. Increasing the Value of Nouns with Games. - Ask: 199 ETH.

Thank you to the proposers for working on this project, I appreciate the time dedicated and the interest in Nouns, but I see some major issues with this proposal.

• Quality. I believe we should be striving to build a very high quality game for Nouns, instead of many "throw-away" mobile games. From what was shown on the proposal the quality just isn't there, it looks a bit amateurish to be completely honest.

• Budget. No clarity on how the funds are going to be used. The figures seem high and arbitrary. Also denominated in ETH which I don't think fits this proposal.

• Audience. The proposed website and games feel like a dated model. I'm not sure we would see much use of the website at all.

Again, appreciate the proposers but I don't believe this is the right fit for Nouns.

Proposal 319 - Voting FOR

Nerman.js

TL;DR - 93 ETH to continue development of Nerman.js - Nouns SDK and the Nounish event feed discord bot. Ask: 93 ETH

Nerman is a great tool for the community, I have used it many times myself by tagging him on twitter, and will likely do the same for this newsletter.
However I do have a few issues with how the proposal was presented:

• Data - I would've liked to see more examples of how Nerman is useful for the community as well as some stats of the usage it is having now.
  Same goes for the new features proposed. It would be helpful for non-devs to see some practical examples of what these features could deliver.

• Budget - I believe there needs to be more clarity here. Some questions that pop to mind: How was the figure decided? How are the funds going to be distributed? Why choose funding in ETH over USDC?

That being said though, I believe Joel is an absolute integral part of the community and has proven his intent and dedication to Nouns. There are few people that I know truly have the DAO's interest at heart and he is one of them.
The sum of the positives here outweigh my concerns, so I'll be voting FOR Joel and his vision.

The DAO is absolutely on fire, so many new proposals coming in everyday.
I couldn't be more excited about how Nouns is growing!

I don't believe we are as divided as some recent discussions suggest. We are strong as a community and even stronger if we stay together.
A DAO with hundreds of people involved is bound to have disagreements. But that is what pushes us forward, that's how we learn. Learn to listen, learn to be wrong and learn that it is ok for different people to have different opinions.
Maybe I'm an optimist, but I truly believe in what is being built here at Nouns (there is nothing quite like it) and I for one want to keep working towards our collective success.

This week I would like to give a special shoutout to my fellow Brazilians from the nft.brasil proposal. We have such a strong Nouns community here and it's great to see initiatives like this, celebrating our culture and further spreading the nounish vibes in Brazil. I will go into further details in my voting reasons below.

Proposal 282 - Voting AGAINST

Dynamic Quorum Updates

TL;DR - reduce max quorum from 20% to 15%

I already voted for this proposal on chain due to time constraints. Below is my reasoning:

I am strongly against this proposal. Nothing has significantly changed since the DAO deliberated on this issue to warrant a resubmission looking to revert it. I believe this would set a bad precedent and we could see proposals resubmitting quickly in hopes of a different outcome.

With the DAO as busy as it is this would only hinder governance. I won't go into the arguments of this proposal as not enough time has passed for proper evaluation of the effects from the original proposal.

Proposal 283 - Voting AGAINST

Clothing, Every Day, Forever

TL;DR - Allocate 75,800 USDC for the development of wears.wtf⌐◨-◨, a clothing brand that transforms Nouns' incredible CC0 assets into distinctive, ready-to-wear clothing.

I appreciate necfas for coming up and presenting this prop. However there are a few issues that lean me towards voting against.

The first thing that caught my attention was that the designs weren't very appealing and a bit uninspired to be honest.

Secondly, I don't see a clear path to success. I would have liked to see more information regarding marketing efforts and how this would help proliferate the meme in a meaningful way.
Like many voters pointed out there isn't anything that stands out for the DAO to fund a clothing brand using cc0 assets.
Giving a similar example, Nouns wipes have a strong marketing plan and a clear path to reach a different kind of audience. That's more out of the box and in my eyes makes more sense for the DAO to finance.

Proposal 284 - Voting FOR

Let’s Throw a Global Pizza Party! Nouns x PizzaDAO

TL;DR - This proposal directly funds 12,000+ slices of pizza that will be distributed through local PizzaDAO events and community organizations on May 22, 2023.

This is a great way to proliferate Nouns IRL in a fun way. The team is experienced and the ask is very fair. Let's do it!

Proposal 285 - Voting FOR

🇧🇷 NFT.Brasil - Taking Over São Paulo and Celebrating the Brazilian Community

TL;DR - Nouns leads the NFT movement in Brazil thanks to its community, but we are just getting started. We are proposing a huge Sao Paulo city takeover starting in NFT.Brasil event.

Extremely happy to see this proposal on chain! We have a very strong Nouns community in Brazil. This proposal is an important step toward strengthening that. Not only will this event celebrate all that has been done here already, but it will introduce Nouns to a whole lot of people.

I would argue this proposal is not just about sponsoring an event. The ripple effect that will come from these activations are far larger. The exposure that we will get from the street gallery and the event itself are invaluable. It is the kind of exposure we want to have here in Brazil, it's the kind that will inspire innovative and nounish ideas.

The ask is very fair given the great value. The builders involved have a proven track record and I know they will deliver beyond expectations. Hell yes.

Proposal 286 - Voting FOR

Nouns Wet Wipes V2 - Vote for your favourite Design!!!

TL;DR - Create the first Noun’s branded Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) that can be sold at almost all types of retail outlets to increase brand awareness. Nouns Wet Wipes will become a permanent item in the market after this initial investment of USD 31,450 + 2 ETH

Interesting to see this proposal back on chain and I must say this is a much better version of it.
Honestly, my opinion has completely changed on this, to the point that I now think it's a great idea!

Renting the countertop space is a good marketing move, we'll certainly see a lot of impulse buys. I like the fact that we should be getting exposure to all kinds of different people, maybe it can lead to some novel things.

I am also satisfied with the financials proposed, especially the fact that it will be self-sufficient after selling out the first batch. Interested to see where this leads.

TL;DR - Art Toy mini-figures

I would have liked to see more details on this proposal. It lacks specifics on marketing, distribution and costs.

That being said I believe this is a great addition to the worldbuilding of Nouns. It adds to the lore, which is something that we desperately need more of.
The proposer has a proven track record in building for Nouns and I believe in his vision.

Proposal 289 - Voting FOR

Retain nounish for 6 months ⌐◨-◨

TL;DR - We turned Pixel, a boutique production company of 10 world-class storytellers, into "nounish" - a full-time video production agency working on Nouns.

We are only getting started and are seeking to continue funding nounish with the same budget ($969K).

I have only good things to say about the team over @nounish. They have created awesome content for Nouns and are having a huge impact in terms of proliferation.
Not only have we seen great engagement on the productions themselves, but the videos have also been continually used as a tool by other creators.

While the budget is extremely high, I believe it is imperative to keep funding the content @nounish is producing at this point in time.
Hopefully they can carve a path towards more sustainability since in the future it might not be financially viable to fund this initiative every 6 months.

Looks like I'm not getting a break anytime soon 😆. Plenty of proposals already up on chain! We'll be back with more governance very soon.

So recently we have been seeing some excellent discussions by the community on how the DAO should be spending the treasury funds, and consequently, what it means to be nounish.

For reference, here is a tweet by fellow Nouner Noun40 that sparked some interesting discussions on the matter.

I would like to share my own perspective on it, and my reasoning for proposal 271 is the perfect example of how I believe we should be governing the DAO.

Proposal 271 - Voting AGAINST

“The Nominal Hero”: A Nouns Middle Grade Novel

I caught myself thinking that maybe I should just say "f*ck it" and vote yes to this prop. But after pausing for a moment I realized that's not how it should be.
Governing the DAO on a "let's hope for the best" kind of mindset is not feasible.

Sure, I could ignore my concerns with this proposal. Like it not having any distribution plans or the unexplained cost or even the fact that an open mint is just selling it to ourselves...
But is that what Nouns are about? Trusting that something is nounish enough and hoping it works out? I don't believe so.

I have nothing against the idea of a Nounish children's book per se. As a matter of fact I think it's a great idea. One of my core beliefs as a Nouner is that we should heavily fund creative people and initiatives.
What I am against though, is not having a plan.
We have to change the mindset that being nounish = throwing caution to the wind and fund anything. Not having something amazing to support is not an excuse to fund anything.

Recent Props like 256(Triple backflip in a Wheelchair) or 263(Nouns Esports) are perfect examples of what we should be funding. They are creative ideas by people that can deliver and have a plan. That's nounish, nounish af.

To Tasha, I would encourage you to bring back a revised version of this prop with more details. Explaining why the cost makes sense for this project, compare it to other known authors and market rates for this kind of work. Most importantly though, I would like to see more on distribution ideas. If we are making this awesome book let's make sure we can actually get it in the hands of readers!

Proposal 272 - Voting ABSTAIN

Autobidder: Withdraw ETH and set ENS reverse record

I wasn't a fan of how this idea was introduced in prop 268 and I'm less of a fan of this one. I really don't know what is being asked of the DAO and what the implications are.

Abstaining from this one and letting more technical Nouners make the decision here, but I would urge for more context and explanation with these kind of proposals.

Proposal 273 - Voting AGAINST

WarpedWorld: Nouns Get Warped ⌐◨-◨

It's great for DAO to have high level builders with vast connections interested in Nouns. But I fail to see why we should effectively pay for a retainer?
Ideas can be thought up and worked on without that being the case. Also it wouldn't be setting a good precedent.
A better model would be for JD to come back with an awesome idea from one of his connections and include his compensation on that prop. It would be fair and justifiable.

Also I wasn't a big fan of how this proposal was laid out. It was difficult to follow and to understand what it was trying to get at. There is a lot of information on different projects, but no clarity on what Nouns would be involved in or how.

Proposal 274 - Voting FOR

Oni Residency: Nouns Community Discord & Onboarding

Wow, so much to love with this proposal. This is how we should be moving forward in terms of community. This is not about centralization, but a path to empower communities and help new members find their way.
I very much agree with Toady. As a new Nouner a few months ago it was extremely challenging to find where and how to connect.

Oni seems to be aware of the problems of centralization and is taking the steps to ensure this is a community project and not an "official discord".

My only issue is the ask, which is a bit high relative to the work. But having experienced issues with this myself I know how important it is. I'm willing to slightly overpay and vote yes from the get go.
However I should mention this is not a sustainable model. I won't be in favor of 6 months down the line funding another proposal for the same amount, so I would encourage a path towards more sustainability or drastically lowering costs.

Proposal 276 - Voting AGAINST

Nounish Playground - The Game

I really like the idea of a nounish game and I support this project. It can be a great way to get the community participating in activities together and to onboard new people.

However I think it should start even smaller, with a one level alpha perhaps and a much smaller budget. That way the community can test it out and we will be able to gauge the reception and impact of the game. From there the DAO could more confidently fund a bigger proposal for a fully fledged game.

Proposal 277 - Voting FOR

Open Source Nounish Hardware + Production

This is a perfect example of the type of proposals we should be supporting. I have only positives to say about this proposal.

• Experienced and influential founder with a proven track record.

• Sound distribution and marketing plan.

• Amazing product design. Seriously, have you seen the packaging?

• Conversation starter and meme proliferator.

• DAO's participation in the revenue.

• Stellar proposal explaining all the choices and reasoning behind them.

Hell yes.

Proposal 278 - Voting FOR

Mint 5k "Stand with Crypto" NFTs and donate $100k to Gitcoin Crypto Advocacy Round

I like the idea of having Nouns attached to important initiatives in the crypto community. It makes sense for us to be seen as a project that helps push crypto forward.
Wilson explains very well in the proposal why this is beneficial for the DAO and I agree with him.

Proposal 279 - Voting FOR

ethOS: A crypto-native, mobile OS

Yet another awesome proposal. We would be funding a great public good for the crypto community and supporting Ethereum, where Nouns live.
I belive this is a great opportunity for Nouns to be the first and main facilitator for this project. It will help cement our position as a pioneer in financing public goods. Raising brand awareness and so on.

I am voting yes to this version of the proposal, but my only ask would be for Nouns to be more prominently featured in the product and not just offer a version of the phone with Nouns branding.

What an exciting week in the nouniverse! Things are happening, people are building, Nouns are thriving!
People discussing means people care. We are on the path.

I recently acquired my second Noun! (#675). A lovely Pizza head!

Ever since purchasing my first Noun, 3 months ago, I have fallen more in love with Nouns and what we are trying to achieve. This is an experiment in building a brand and a community in a way that has never been done before.
We are breaking a lot of traditional "rules" and that's what sets us apart from what everyone else is doing.

My desire is to keep working on Nouns DAO and support it achieve its goals. I am committed to doing this newsletter with the objective of inspiring other nouners to voteWithReason. And to help builders with best practices for their nounish project.
In the near future I also want to create articles focusing on broader topics like governance, sustainability, starter guides, prop.house voting, among others. With the ultimate goal of creating more resources for all things Nouns.

Proposal 266 - Voting AGAINST

The Nouns Mechanical Keyboard

I really appreciate this proposal, it is very detailed, has tons of information and even someone who isn't particularly familiar with the subject can make an informed decision. The visual concepts also looked great and got me excited for an eventual finished project.
That being said, there are a few key issues with this proposal that pushed me to vote against.

Firstly, the team is proposing for the DAO to pay for all the manufacturing costs and the team's compensation. On top of that, they are receiving all the proceeds from the NFT sales. Seems we are double spending here. This needs to be further clarified.
Also, it would've been great to see a % of the sales being returned back to the treasury.

Secondly, I would have liked to see more on proliferation. The keyboards themselves will most likely be sold to people already in the ecosystem. So there needs to be some work done outside of the sales of the keyboards. This possibly comes in how exactly the subDAO will operate and how It can push nounish ideas forward. In general I believe more things should be explored on this front.

This is definitely an interesting concept, I would be open to a revised version of this prop.

Proposal 268 - Voting AGAINST

Nouns Autobidder Trial (by Federation)

I'm going to hammer on proposal standards here. This proposal is rather shallow and difficult to understand for someone non technical. It also doesn't go into key details, like how this would benefit the DAO and the advantages over the current model.

Since the tech is already built, effectively, what we're voting on is the funding of the contract with enough ETH for one bid. And I don't think that's the right way to go about it now.

The right approach would be to have the Autobidder available as a public tool. Then if members of the DAO believe more Nouns should be acquired they can make a proposal with a proper "strategy" including amount, duration and the benefits of such actions.

Even though I am voting against this version, I do believe that if the DAO wants to acquire more Nouns, the Autobidder is a better and fully decentralized way of doing it.

This is a great initiative. It is a sustainable way to support and encourage more nounish content creators.

We've had some interesting past days with "Hack Week" wrapping up. We saw a lot of awesome builders and creators stepping up to the challenge. It was great to see.

I also believe we saw a lot of areas where we can improve upon, such as, organization, communication and voting incentives. I'll be doing a full article with my thoughts on Hack Week. So stay tuned for that.

With that out of the way, let's get into the latest 5 props for the DAO. I have limited time this week with the holidays, so my reasonings might be a bit more concise. I'll also skip doing prop rating this time.

Proposal 261 (Voting For)

Dynamic Quorum Updates

We are at the very beginning of a very new type of venture. Everything Nouns does hasn't really been done before. We're charting new waters and exploring different ways of doing things. And I love that.

The reason I say this though, is to highlight that we take enough risk as is. The DAO's model pays upfront and we don't usually know the full extent of each project's capabilities and commitment. The best we can do is to do thorough analysis before hand. But that can often times not be enough.

So yes, at least for now, I believe that votes "against" should have more "power". To ensure that a higher collective agrees on the DAOs actions. And I don't see this, by any margin, diminishing the amount of nourishes and weirdness that we also strive for.

Proposal 262 (Voting Against)

Showcase Nouns 3D-Printed Collection on Times Square Billboards

I have supported Danit in the past including her latest NFT.NYC proposal. I truly believe she is doing amazing work for Nouns.

But times square ads are neither a smart nor effective way to proliferate our brand and her work. This is something a lot of other basic pfp projects made in the past with little to no effect. It’s forgettable and has no conversion rate. Those funds could be better allocated elsewhere.

I should also mention we’re not like every other pfp project. Let’s do something different, let’s be weird, let’s be nounish.

Proposal 263 (Voting For)

Nouns Esports - CS:GO and Dota2 Rosters 2023

I was watching counter-strike yesterday on Gaules' channel. He is the biggest streamer in Brazil and has a lot recognition. And at one point he started talking about Nouns. He mentioned our logo, our uniform and the team. And while he didn't really know what any of it meant, it was being talked about by one of the biggest personalities in the esports scene. For me, seeing such an idol of mine talking about nouns was one of the coolest moments I've had since joining the DAO.

Also check out this video 4156 posted where the commentators on the official broadcast of that same tournament talk about Nouns DAO. It's awesome.

It looks like the team has been doing a great job so far and they are in the right direction. The idea of becoming a tier 1 team competing at the highest levels is very appealing to me. Imagine garnering fans from all around the world to cheer for Nouns, amazing. I also think this is a great example to people of what Nouns can do. Either for the DAO to show as a success case or for people that discover nouns through the actual team.

The proposal itself was very detailed with all information necessary to make a decision. I also love that they are keeping accountability of operations public.

Despite the big ask I think this is definitely a "Hell Yes". If we don't fund this, I don't know what we should be funding really.

Proposal 264 (Voting Against)

Launching Nouns Vacation Summer Brand 2023

I have quite a few issues with this proposal.

First of all, on the events. The don't seem to be properly organized yet. A lot of it seems like it will be decided if they get funded. For example they mention the venue will depend on budget, but then give a specific value for the venue? I'm also unsure on the effects of proliferation through fashion influencers. How would they communicate what nouns is?

As for the products, it isn't clear if the team is keeping 100% of the sales revenue. If so the DAO doesn't have any reason to fund the production costs. It's a CC0 brand.

I'd be willing to reassess this proposal with a more detailed budget, plan and focus.

Proposal 265 (Voting Against)

Noun Wet Wipes

I'll be short here. I don't see this as on brand for nouns. There are a lot coolers things that we could give out at events. The proposal itself lacks tremendous detail and explanation.

Completely fail to see how this could be a net positive for the DAO based on the information given by the proposal.

The First Triple Back Flip in a Wheelchair

I like the fact that we should be getting exposure to a new kind of audience, more mainstream, if you will. It could also prove very useful as a reference to what Nouns can fund and create.

The one thing I missed from the proposal was exactly how Nouns will be featured in the movie. besides the usage of props and alike. Since we are solely funding the documentary I would hope to see some direct mentions of what nouns are and do.

I would've also liked to see more details on marketing. What exactly the deal with Wheelz is. How many posts were discussed and most importantly, for how long. I feel like his reach will be our main tool in getting new eyes on nouns.

The costs seem a tad high, but still in line with who and what we're getting. The whole idea is very nounish and what we're all about. I think it's worth taking a chance here.

Nouns Fair @ ETH Global hackathons

What a great proposal, so much to go on and very detailed. Love to see it.

It's my first time seeing these activations. But it looks like the team has been doing a great job so far! Awesome to see that we are grabbing the eyes of talented people at these events.

My one concern here is the budget. It is too high for the DAO to continuously fund these. I think some of the items could be cut in order to attain a more sustainable budget. Game set and t-shirts for example are a big sink at 31.5K of the whole budget. Maybe some of the swag can be cut down too.

Still, happy to support this version of the prop. The people at these events are an important audience for us to bring nounish ideas to.

Proposal 258 (Voting Against)

Nouns x W3BSTOCK in NOUN YORK CITY!!!!

The very first image has a lil nouns noggle. Don't love that. This prop is for Nouns.

I spent quite some time going over this proposal. I didn't think the idea was necessarily bad and I was a bit surprised with it having unanimous votes against it so far. I went to house of nouns to check if I was missing something. But alas, almost no votes were given with reason.

I investigated further and found that this exact same proposal was submitted to lil nouns about 2 weeks ago. But it was canceled. Mainly though the ask for the sponsorship was 6.5 ETH, but for nouns they are asking 10 ETH. So which is it?

I don't necessarily have a problem with submitting proposals on different DAOs if they have actual significance to each. Here it looks like a second attempt of sorts? A lot of the text still mentions lil nouns specifically. I guess now the lil noggles on the title image make sense, lol.

With all this info I just can't trust the project at this point.

Yes! Love to see it. The first prop house for nouns shorts was a huge success. It was great to see so much interest and so many great submissions. Let's keep funding more awesome content!

I only wish the event costs were more detailed and organized. The way it is seems like an arbitrary number. Would love to know how they decided on that particular amount.

I know this isn't the main focus of this proposal. But it is still important for us to have these basic informations at a high standard. Our "business model" takes enough risk as is by paying upfront, we should at least make sure we know what we're paying for in detail.

Proposal 260 (Voting Abstain)

Forgeries - ALL are FAKE except ONE

I wish some proposals were more ELI5 ("explain it like I'm 5"). I couldn't really understand the benefits of omega. What exactly are the tools that are being deployed to the public? As for the forgeries, seems to me like glorified gambling. I won't comment a lot on other aspects of the proposal as it really won't cost the DAO anything and that makes a difference.

I'm a fan of Gami. I really like what he built with Gnars, and I would love to keep supporting his work. Even though I don't really resonate with this proposal I'm still voting for as there is no downside for the DAO and it could be a good tool for the community.

I would like to thank @ccarella for showing me @paragraph_xyz. It's a more native web3 solution and the newsletters will be stored on chain for posterity. I'll be switching over for the time being.

It was looking like a quiet week, but a lot of new proposals came in the past few days. We got a lot of ground to cover, so let's dive in!

These are my personal opinions based on how I believe the DAO should be using the treasury to achieve its goals. I made the decisions based first and foremost on the on-chain proposals.

Prop rating is based on the quality of the proposal itself and not whether I support it or not.

Proposal 248 (Voting Against)

Rage Quit (2)

This one certainly made waves in the nouns community. I don't have much context on past discussions on this. I'll be basing my opinions, as always, mostly on information provided on-chain.

The proposal is poorly detailed and it assumes people know what rage quit is. Which I didn't.

I don't see how this pushes the DAO forward in any way. Purchasing NFTs and investing in projects comes with risk. We shouldn't jeopardize the DAO's mission and treasury because some people want a better exit.

Heads down, let's build.

Proposal 249 (Voting For)

Nouns block graffiti x ETH solo staking

So much to like with this proposal.

I really agree with the concepts presented such as supporting decentralization and solo stakers. Very nounish indeed.

I've been itching to get into solo staking for the past 6 months but I've been deterred, like many, by the technical prowess needed and the fear of messing up.

With this prop I'm more interested than ever to pursue it and hopefully it will inspire others too. Solo stakers are an integral part of the Ethereum ecosystem. It's awesome that nouns will be supporting it. And we'll also get the benefit of proliteratoooring the meme via the noggles.

Proposal 250 (Voting Against)

I'm interested to see how the community will vote for this one. I feel like I might be in the minority here.

While I do value anonymity, I just don't think it is a feature that is needed right now. Heyanouns seems fulfill this gap well enough. Furthermore it is a sizable ask. I would much rather we'd be using these funds for actions that add value and bring awareness to the brand.

There are quite a few projects ongoing already that focus on improving the DAO governance. From what the proposers said this is very new technology and it seems like we'll be paying for it. This just ties back to my point of it not being needed right now. When this technology is more readily available maybe it can be implemented with a lesser cost (both of time and money).

A quick note on the prop that I will keep hammering on is that there is no information on the team whatsoever and no links to get further info. Don't trust, verify. isn't this what web3 is all about?

Proposal 252 (Voting Against)

Nouns Fine Jewellery by: State Property – supported by HeyMint

I really do appreciate all the work the proposers put into this prop.

It is very well detailed and touches on all the important points. The team seems experienced and capable. Also the ask is fair and in line with what is being proposed.

Unfortunately, at the end of the day I just don't think it's the right culture fit for nouns. And that's the only reason I'm voting against. I wouldn't mind being proven wrong on this one though.

Proposal 253 (Voting Against)

Nouns Hack Week

I like the idea. Seems like it would be a great event to celebrate everything nounish.

Even though this is a volunteer project I still think it's important to at least link the socials of the members organizing it. That way nouners not very inserted in the community can do further research and follow the progress.

While in this specific case I do know some of the proposers and their capabilities, I still have to vote against here in my hopes to enforce better proposal standards. This proposal lacks details about the event and how it will be organized as well as basic info on the team.

I know I might be coming off as too harsh or not nounish here, but I think it's important to think about the whole workflow of the DAO and how we are setting the norms for the future.

I will gladly support this idea with some more information provided on the proposal.

Nouns Deli Melbourne: Piloting a Nounish Franchise Model

Okay I LOVE the idea of a CC0 franchise. And it makes it so this proposal isn't just locally focused but something that can be expanded globally. Maybe I'll be starting my own franchise soon?!

The rest all looks great. Experienced team with a fair and detailed explanation of the costs.

Can't wait for this one. Hope we get to see many updates.

Right now I really wish we had a tool to track ongoing proposals and their categories. This proposal reminded me a lot of uplink.wtf which is funded and being developed right now.

After reading through I do see how it's a different idea, but it makes me wonder if the DAO isn't shooting in too many similar directions at once.

All that being said I actually really like this idea! Seems like it could be quite the useful tool.
