Traditionally, parents were the primary source of values, education, and emotional support for their children. However, with the rise of the internet, AI, and advanced technology, this traditional model is becoming insufficient.

The concept of “parent” as a fixed, ethical authority is no longer guaranteed to align with the needs of the child or society. Children are exposed to a vast array of information from birth, and their personal development is influenced by factors beyond the nuclear family.

1. Historical Shift: From Collective Care to Nuclear Families

Historically, children were raised collectively within communities. The individual parent-child relationship was secondary to the societal structure:

Communities guided education and values

Lineage or blood relation was less important than social function

Post-World War II nuclear families in Japan and other countries represented an exception—a shift toward individualism and parent-centered upbringing. Today, however, economic pressures and the information explosion have introduced value gaps between parents and children.

2. Modern Parent-Child Challenges

Recent data shows growing stress and misalignment in parent-child relationships:

About 20% of parents report significant mental strain related to child-rearing, and 19% cite personality conflicts with their children.

There are approximately 1.46 million socially withdrawn youths (hikikomori) in Japan, some linked to parent-child dependency issues.

Only 46% of young people express a desire to raise children, often citing economic concerns (69%) and work-life balance (54%).

These numbers indicate that traditional parental roles are under strain, creating structural gaps that affect children’s social adaptation.

3. Customizable Parent-Substitute Business

The rise of AI, genetic analysis, and behavioral analytics opens the door for personalized parental support:

Genetic insights can reveal emotional tendencies, cognitive potential, and personality traits.

Behavioral AI can monitor learning styles and developmental patterns.

Customized parent-substitute services can provide guidance, value formation, and social adaptation strategies tailored to the child.

This approach optimizes the child’s growth, social skills, and decision-making from a very early stage—essentially functioning as a next-generation parent.

4. In modern society, with fragmented families and information overload, structured interventions become necessary.

5. Society may shift toward a model where systems and structures lead the development of individuals, and human roles, like parents and teachers, become more specialized or partially replaced.

6. Business Implications

From a strategic perspective, these changes present a significant market opportunity:

Services for mental, social, and value-based development of children

AI-human hybrid education systems

Personalized guidance and social adaptation programs

In effect, the parent-substitute business becomes a mechanism through which society ensures children’s development, while parents and traditional institutions take on supplementary roles.

7. Conclusion

The future of parental roles is not merely a philosophical or ethical debate. It is a real, structural, and economic issue:

Traditional parental influence is declining

Children are exposed to multiple, diverse information sources

Social and economic pressures limit parents’ capacity

Structural systems increasingly guide value formation and social adaptation

Understanding these trends allows entrepreneurs and strategists to anticipate the emergence of parent-substitute businesses as a critical component of society. This is not just a service—it is a next-generation social infrastructure.

object that moves.

The price itself is what moves.

In other words,

we may not be exchanging value at all —
we may simply be circulating prices.

A System Where No One Truly Profits

If we observe society carefully, another structure becomes visible.

Many people live with some form of debt:

Mortgages

Student loans

Business loans

Credit cards

In reality, modern society often functions through a cycle of:

Debt → Labor → Repayment

This leads to a simple but uncomfortable question.

Does real profit actually exist?

If most people are constantly paying back debt while working to survive, then from a broader perspective,

there may be very little real profit in the system.

Money may simply be moving around.

The Market as a Collective Illusion

If much of market value is based on trust and expectation, then the market might be better understood as

a massive system of shared belief.

In fact, many things in society exist only because people collectively believe in them.

Examples include:

Money

Nations

Brands

Stock valuations

These are not purely physical forms of value.

They are rules created through human agreement.

In this sense, the market might be less like a physical structure and more like

a shared story.

Why Does No One Say This Directly?

This leads to another important question.

If markets are partly built on belief and narrative,
why do so few people say this openly?

The reason might be simple.

If a large number of people suddenly realized that

“this system is partly an illusion,”

then many pillars of society could begin to shake:

Labor systems

Investment systems

Financial institutions

National economies

Society, in many ways, survives by

sharing the same illusion.

Even New Systems Might Repeat the Same Pattern

In recent years, new economic ideas have emerged:

Decentralized finance

DAOs

Cryptocurrencies

These systems promise alternatives to traditional finance.

However, if we look closely, they may simply be

new markets built on similar foundations.

The structure itself may not have fundamentally changed.

What If Someone Said It Out Loud?

What would happen if someone clearly stated:

“The market itself might be an illusion.”

Most people might ignore the idea.

Some might reject it entirely.

But a small number of people might pause and think:

“That might actually be true.”

Throughout history, many turning points in society began with questions exactly like this.

In the End

Perhaps the market is neither completely real nor completely imaginary.

It may simply be

a system that exists because humans believe in it.

And the deeper question may not be about markets at all.

The real question might be:

What do we choose to believe in order to live together as a society?
