Why is Dev Rel positioned under Marketing by Circle?

Translating difficult technical ideas into intelligible language for both engineers and non-technical people is one of the primary duties of a developer relations team. Circle strives to develop a better narrative that appeals to a wider audience by incorporating marketing experts and designers in the process. The team can effectively communicate the value and promise of their technology by using straightforward language and terms that designers and marketing specialists can understand.

Narrative: Building Trust in Decentralization

Especially in the context of blockchain and cryptocurrencies, trust is crucial for the adoption of new technology. Circle is aware of how crucial narrative is to building user trust. For instance, the decentralisation-centred narrative that Ethereum and Bitcoin have created has helped them gain a lot of credibility. By incorporating marketing knowledge with Dev Rel, Circle attempts to create tales that foster confidence in their products and foster a sense of trust.

Web2 and Web3: Tailoring Strategies for Different Audiences

The distinction between Web2 and Web3 developers necessitates the development of distinct strategies to effectively engage with each group. Web2 developers predominantly focus on working with APIs, often dealing with legacy systems and prioritizing security. On the other hand, Web3 developers are more inclined towards software development kits (SDKs) and direct implementation or forking. Consequently, the language and approaches employed by Dev Rel in these two domains will differ significantly.

The Three C's and Role Clarification

Teams working in developer relations frequently follow the three Cs principles: content, community, and code. The Dev Rel team at Circle uses a similar design but divides up the tasks into multiple teams to speed up the process. The team responsible for community engagement focuses on encouraging interaction and establishing connections with the developer community. The Developer Relations team focuses on offering developers technical help, tools, and direction. Last but not least, the Solution Architect team focuses on designing solutions that are specific to developer requirements. Collaboration among the teams guarantees a cohesive approach to supporting developers throughout their journey, despite the fact that each team has a separate focus.

Conclusion

So who are we? Rebels!

WHERE ART AND TECHNOLOGY MERGE TO TRANSFORM THE WAY WE SHARE OUR DIGITAL IDENTITY.

Rebels is a 3D PFP NFT project and the vision is to build a bridge between different NFTs, evolving into digital Identities. The project was inspired by many different things such as high-end fashion, streetwear, protestors and even styles from games like Apex Legends.

The team started working on the project in December 2021. At the time, a common problem with NFTs was the limited ability to display more about yourself. Users could not display multiple NFTs through their avatars. Instead, many were using banners to display their NFTs. The problem had to be solved.

The ability of customization allows users to have their Rebels as a base to unleash their creativity with a unique patch system. This allows NFTs from other projects to be displayed as badges on the clothing of Rebels. By doing this, holders can showcase multiple communities that they are a part of and signal more about their digital identity. Rebel holders will also be granted commercial rights to their NFTs, these rights include subsequent copyright and commercial use. For example, hipster clothing, Sub DAO, merchandise, derivatives, etc.

Mint information :

Mint price and quantity are based on a16z existing data analysis. From the AMA's answer, Nass has referred to at least a hundred projects in the market. In addition, many of Nass's decisions follow some of the recommendations mentioned in a16z's previous article: "The NFT Mint' Sweet Spot': Data on Early Decisions". For example, a lower mint price to help users improve their returns.

@Nass - Currently the Chief Information Security Officer at A16Z. Before joining A16Z, he worked on cybersecurity for Facebook (Libra team) and also worked on cybersecurity for some of the best crypto banks and Apple. Through working at a16z, Nass has often worked with some very good projects to help them grow, such as Opensea, Yuga Labs, Uniswap, etc.

@Sas - Over 10 years of development experience. Current technical lead at Hudson River Trading, where he is responsible for high-performance trading systems. As an early blockchain engineer, Sas was also involved in Facebook's cryptocurrency initiative Libra, and now he is responsible for developing the core technology of Rebels, including smart contracts, enhancing the mint experience and subsequent customization of the system.

@Alex - Alex (@alexlzd) is the Creative Director at Rebels. He is leading a team of ten dedicated artists to deliver the best art for the project. Alex’s background is in Visual Arts, and he resides in France. Alex was inspired by both fashion and graffiti art, a common interest with Nass.

@sobiebee - Sophie Pham (@sobiebee) is a blockchain developer and community manager. Throughout her years of experience, she was a software engineer at Adobe, where she worked on data, consumer identities, and decentralized identities. Sobie is currently a community manager for Rebels.

@alou - Alouane Said Ruspoli (@alou) is a creative lead who resides in France. Throughout her years of experience, she became the product designer in set design for Henrik Vibskov, was a freelance designer for Latency and researched and developed 3D objects and spaces for VR and web projects for Baillat Studio.

@elena - Elena Silenok (@elena) has a background in both the tech and fashion worlds, and her experience in design, retail, and blockchain makes her a perfect advisor for the project. She contributes to the bigger picture of Rebels in the NFT space and is working on future plans alongside founders.

3LAU - 3LAU aka. Justin Blau (@3LAU) is a successful entrepreneur and worldwide known DJ. He’s co-founder of Royal, a company revolutionizing the music industry through NFTs and has been one of the earliest adopters of the NFT technology. 3LAU will provide instrumental guidance in the team’s journey to build Night Labs' vision and brand.

@OhhShiny - OhhShiny aka. Benjamin Milstein (@OhhShiny) is a leader in the NFT space and a successful entrepreneur. He is the co-founder of DIGITAL, a metaverse investment firm, with Steve Cohen and Mark Daniel. OhhShiny will be an incredible partner to the team in strategy and execution for the future of the project.

NFTs Customization

Rebels is incredibly unique. It will serve as a base for users to showcase their digital identity through a patch system. For example, if users have a BAYC, they can display that BAYC on their Rebel NFT. This way, users can connect to multiple communities through a single pfp.

Customization process

Patch

The patch is the core of the customization, in order to wear the patch. The user needs to interact with the website. From what has been revealed, we can analyse the patch into three types.

• NFTs from your wallet

  • The initial allow list will focus on the blue chips, for project marketing

  • Subsequent spots will give to the project which is verified by the Opensea.

• Single-use patch from Night Labs

  • The purpose of the patch is to reward contributors

  • This type of patch will be burnt when the NFT is sold. This process can not be reverted.

• Permanent patches

  • All designers and artist can design their own patches

  • Possible derivatives open up in the future.

Listing

• When reselling Rebel NFT, the patch changes in two ways

• If an officially provided patch is tied, the patch is sold along with the NFT

• If bound to another NFT in the wallet, this patch disappears after a successful transaction

Security measures

• The discord management is handled by the industry's professional and famous engineers. The ownership is split in a decentralised favor where no single owner holds full permission for the server.

• In terms of contract writing, we have software engineers with over a decade of experience in the industry, and we also have the best contract auditors in the crypto field. Both internal and external audits and stress tests are taken into account.

• Before Mint, the contract will be fully public on GitHub, and a bug bounty will be opened at that time.

Cold wallet innovation.

When Rebels' NFTs are stored in cold wallets, users can still make custom changes on the official website to patch NFTs. through this innovative mechanism, users can maximize the security of NFTs.

Contracts

From the information received so far, 721A is not the optimal choice. 721A's innovation lies in packing mint but still faces high gas fees when facing transfer. Besides the primary mint contract, a custom interaction contract is also one of the team's focuses. The team is currently discussing a number of approaches and trying to extract the benefits of each to create a unique contract standard.

The contract is now live on GitHub. From the contract, we can see that the contract is very simple. The current contract includes two functions mint and reveal. The minting function contains three parts, Dutch auction, whitelist and free mint. The whole mint process did use the ERC721A standard to save the gas, which can be found in the next section. And we have the reveal function which is based on ERC-165.

Gas Optimization

Here is the gas optimization we see for each function.

The normal GAS fee formula is Gas Fee = Gas Spent * (Base Fees + Priority Fees)

As if we take the example of 50 Gwei, the sum of base + priority. We will end up with the formula 50 * 122065 = 0.00610325 We can see the gas fee is heavily reduced. (This estimation is only based on the current Gwei average, Gwei is quite complex due to unstable)

Community operation

Discord and Twitter are the main ones. Due to the strategy, every A16z member is a KOL on Twitter. This is also good for the project itself. For example, in the second space AMA, we found 7 members of the a16z crypto group. Although a16z can't officially declare support, according to Nass, the project has been helped and supported by a16z members. In addition, Nass often sends Twitter to explain his ideas, strengthening the community consensus.

Discord currently has 73.7K people, with about 5K-6K active users.

The current number of Twitter followers is 86K people, with average likes of 1.4k~2k, and the picture release on April 22 reached a peak of 7.2K.

WL mainly focuses on the activity of members. Although there are no fixed rules, the audit mechanism is stringent. It has two levels of the audit. Unlike other projects, Rebels Mod has no power to issue, only the power to nominate. As a result, each Mod has a wealth of project experience. Also, members have the right to nominate each other, and when a member is trendy, members will spontaneously nominate them. In addition, the community's recognition of early members' contributions can be seen in the distribution of the premium whites. The current number of whitelist members is 3.59k, the number of OG is 698, and the number of SUDO members is 15.

Collaboration

For collaborations, Nass prefers to build long-term partnerships with the community, building bridges between communities with our artists and technicians. We will collaborate with our own (Rebels) community—for example, x0r and 3lau. At the same time, Nass feels that collaborating with other projects for the WL exchange will not provide many benefits. Sharing community members between projects will lead to less involvement or contribution of members in the community.

Personal Analysis

Rebels is my very first NFTs Project. Through this project, I have met many beautiful people, some of whom I met have helped me throughout my journey in Web3. I have taken the chance to dive into the depths of Web3 to try and understand what we are looking for. So why am I writing this research report? Why am I so in love with this project? Why was I honoured with the Sudo role? The following is my conclusion from my personal experiences.

To emphasise, I want to say that I only represent my views, only my views!

Rebellion

At the beginning of the report, I have mentioned that we are the rebellion, or more specifically, we are the Web3 rebellion. As many of us know, we are suffering from bearish now, and the primary goal is survival. Therefore, learning during bearish to prepare for the bullish is extremely important. For me, I often ask myself, why do we have such FOMO during the bull markets and is this FOMO a good thing? Clearly, over the past few months, I have seen a lot and experienced a lot. It appears that FOMO and emotions seem to take over the market.

Web3 is a complex industry, many people want to join in, but the people within are already paralyzed.

Various projects are promising how much they can benefit the project holders while ignoring the core values of NFTs. Many projects anonymously rug pull with their funds. This is not a good development for NFTs. If the NFT space does not seek a breakthrough in the development and instead focuses on the “utility” and FOMO, we will experience a hammer from regulations.

Nass has been commenting on these issues on Twitter about why projects focusing and promising to “bring value” to their holders is not the way to go.

Background

From 6 AMAs, we can see that Nass is a very knowledgeable founder, and utilizing the resources from a16z is also a plus to the project. The other highlight is that Nass and the team are willing to analyze and evaluate previous smart contracts.

Many NFT projects are currently experiencing severe contractual problems, and many of these problems have a viable solution, but many projects still keep on committing to them. Comparing Nass with other project founders, we can see that a strong background brings technology and respect for history.

Consensus

Within Crypto, we all know the importance of consensus. One critical factor of measure is how strongly the community consented to the project. Most projects at the moment build consensus from the promise and the floor price. The value should not only be limited to financial value but also indirect factors like knowledge sharing and networking. Within Rebels, we tried to set up a positive atmosphere for the members, where @IC_mints leads a community space every week to spread the knowledge base to help newbies.

Incentives

In NFTs, many people buy an NFT image as a PFP. Not just to look good but to show the value of your NFT to others. NFTs are a mixture of aesthetics, patronage, status, collecting and socializing. In the case of whales, such holders will usually be other blue-chip holders. But the current PFP functionality is limited by the display of individual NFTs. There are ways to display multiple NFTs, such as a fusion of semi-divisions. Still, such NFTs cannot be vetted and certified by Twitter, so Rebels can be the bridge to link different NFT communities and allow users to display their holdings or favourite communities.

Mechanism

Badges also have many possibilities: NFT on NFT directly offers the possibility of second creation and derivation; an artist may not necessarily need to publish an NFT on Opensea in the future and instead create a series of badges, similar to a series of social media emojis. Or perhaps through a badge, members could go on to form a subDAO.

In recent thoughts and exchanges, community members have developed the concept of achievement. Today many projects give out POAPs, and the core concept of POAPs is very much like the achievements in traditional games. So can we extend the achievement system? One achievement is the traditional POAP. Another achievement is based on the initial holder. For example, if the holding time exceeds 500 days, the project will conveniently issue a diamond hand achievement. So badges will not be limited to a part of the content. The possibilities are endless.

Rebel labs

Rebels Labs is a sub-DAO of Rebels NFT. It is founded by Rebels Chinese community.

Advertising:

Rebels Labs will utilize the breakthrough patch system, transforming patches into billboards. Rebels Labs runs business such as producing advertisements, metaverse activities. It aims to realize the upgrading of advertising and marketing from Web 2 to Web 3.

Service:

For projects that are before minting:

To promote these projects, Rebels Labs members will employ their NFT native accounts to generate viral tweets. Meanwhile, Rebels Labs will provide professional service on advertisements targeting, marketing strategy etc.

For projects that are after minting:

All the Rebels Labs members who were involved into the marketing plan will wear these projects' patch on their Rebels NFT, and tweet in same format to initiate a marketing campaign in group.

Income:

Rebels Labs will gain profit from the collabrated projects ethreuem pay, NFT airdrop and free mint spots.

Rebels是谁？

定制化NFT

Rebels与其他项目有着很多区别，这也是为什么我会长久的在这个社区里进行知识分享。其中最独特的莫过于其独创的定制化系统。Rebels NFT将会作为一个基点，通过patch徽章系统，允许用户佩戴不同的徽章去展示其持有的NFT。例如一个用户持有BAYC，那么这个用户可以通过定制化系统，把持有的BAYC佩戴到Rebels NFT上。由此一来，用户便能透过一个NFT去打通多个社区。我们将其称之为桥梁——NFT桥梁。

Patch

徽章系统，顾名思义，每个徽章都是一个NFT，将徽章佩戴需要借助官网交互。从目前的信息来看徽章NFT可以分为三种：

• 钱包内的NFT

• 首批NFT认证将会聚焦于认证的蓝筹，例如Yuga Labs的项目，MoonBirds，Invisible Friends, Doodles。帮助项目宣传

• 之后会基于Opensea认证来增加这个名单。

• 官方提供的一次性徽章，主要为纪念作用

  • 例如高级白 1337的成员会有独有的LEET徽章去证明1337对社区的贡献。

  • 但转售时这类徽章将被销毁，同时，一旦佩戴疑似不可逆

当Rebels的NFTs储存在冷钱包，用户仍可以在官网上进行定制化更改，给NFT上Patch。通过这个创新机制，用户可以最大限度的保证NFTs安全。

合约

从目前的信息来看，721A并非最优选择。721A的创新在于打包Mint，但是在面对转移时仍旧面临高额的Gas费用。从已收到的消息来看，可能会基于721x去重新构建一套体系。除了基础的mint合约，定制化交互合约也是团队的重心之一。团队目前讨论了许多方法，并试图提取各个方法的优点，从而创建独有的合约标准。

安全措施

• Discord安全性，discord安全管理是业内非常专业著名工程师，经常是第一个对业内事件做出反应。nass等创始人也没有discord完全权限。

• 合约编写方面是业界有十几年经验的软件工程师，还请到了加密领域合约审计最优秀的人来审计。兼顾内部和外部审核，以及压力测试。

• 在Mint之前，合约将会在GitHub完全公开，届时会开启bug bounty

项目分析

社群运营

以Discord和Twitter为主，因为a16z的运营策略，人均加密KOL。这个对项目本身也是利好。在第二次space AMA中，我们发现了7名a16z加密组成员，虽然a16z无法官宣支持，据Nass透露，项目有受到a16z成员的帮助和支持。Nass自己经常会发twitter去阐述他的理想和想法，这使得社区的凝聚力变得更强。

目前Discord人数为73.7K人，活跃用户在5k~6k左右。

目前Twitter关注人数为86K人，平均点赞为1.4k~2k，4月22号的图片释出达到高峰7.2K。

WL主要聚焦成员的活跃，虽然无固定规则，但是审核机制十分严谨。具有两层审核。有别于其他项目Rebels的Mod，并无发放权力只有提名权力。每个Mod都有着丰富的项目经历，借助这些经历才能更好的辨别机器人和工作室，试图最大限度的把白名单给到真正为社区做贡献的成员。同时成员之间也有提名权，当一个成员正真深得人心的时候，成员便会自发的去提名。另外，从高级白的发放也可以看到，社区对早期成员的贡献的认可。目前白名单人数为3.58k，高级白人数为527，SUDO人数为4人。

外部合作

对于外部合作，Nass更希望与社区内部建立长期的合作，建立社区之间的桥梁，以我们的艺术与技术为重点。我们会与自己（Rebels）社区NFT或画家进行合作。比如x0r，3lau。同时Nass觉得和其他项目合作进行交换WL交换的意义并不是很大，项目之间共享社区成员，会导致成员在社区的参与感或贡献度降低。WL合作越多，越容易拉进来墙头草。其实抽奖发白，WL合作所面向的仍然是同一批用户。

个人分析

Rebels应该说是我接触到的第一个项目，也因为此项目认识到了很多人，接触到了web3的内核，去寻找自己在这个行业的理由。我为什么想要写这篇研报？，我为什么热爱这个项目？，我为什么能拿到Sudo？。下面我从我自己的亲身经验和体验进行了个人想法的阐述探讨，所有信息都是由这几个月的亲身经历体验，总结下来的。最后还是想说，我仅代表我本人的看法的看法只是我的看法，DYOR才是这个圈子最重要的。

反抗

我们在文章初期提及了这个项目的原意是反抗，那么我们究竟为何反抗，反抗什么？目前我们正在经历熊市，希望能度过这个难关。熊市学习，牛市fomo。但是牛市的fomo真的是好事吗。纵观过往的这几个月，看到了很多也体验了很多。目前的市场仿佛被fomo的情绪带动，宛如围城，墙外的人想进来，墙内的人麻木不仁。各种项目方都在许承诺项目可以给持有者带来多大的利益而却忽视了NFT的艺术用心制作NFT和创新。甚至不少项目方匿名卷钱跑路，这对NFT是一个好的发展吗？或者说如果持续下去，NFT的市场还有什么意义和炒作的价值吗。如果NFT不寻求突破性的发展，而是保持发图卷钱跑路三连操作甚至会受到各国政府的监管打压。

背景

从6次的AMA中发现，Nass是个十分有认知的项目发起人，合理利用a16z的资源去帮助他成功是这个项目最终能成功的一大助力。另一个我十分欣赏的地方在于，Nass有参考之前的项目，解析项目代码去改进。Nass：“我们分析了BAYC的合约，发现他们并没有优化transfer函数，我们通过分析他们的项目从而改善我们的合约”。目前很多NFT项目都发生了严重的合约问题，尽管很多问题都已有解决方案，可是很多项目依旧照犯了。 对比Nass和其他项目创始人，我们可以看到，强大的背景带来的不只是技术，还有对历史的尊重。借鉴历史，从历史学习。

共识

在加密领域之中共识的地位举足轻重，一个项目的价值取决于其是否有着良好的共识机制，共识又取决于价值，而目前大多数NFT项目的共识仅来自于地板价。但是，价值并不仅仅局限于资金价值，信息知识和人脉这些间接但是持久的价值也是不可忽略的，Rebels里面的成员通过知识共享建立了一个类似技术论坛的社区空间，每周二会举办分享会，亦或是每天早上/晚上的复盘。这些聊天内容实际上给Rebels成员提供了特别的价值。Rebels的中文社区尝试帮助新加入的NFT新人实现从0到1的转变。

激励

在NFT中，很多人买一个NFT图片当做头像。不只是为了好看喜欢，更多的是想对别人展现你NFT的价值。NFTs是一个集美学、赞助、地位、收藏和社交的混合资产。就拿BAYC持有者来说，通常此类持有者同时也会是其他的蓝筹持有者。但是目前的PFP功能受限于单个NFTs的展出。当然有多个NFT展示的方法，例如半分法的融合，但是此类NFT便无法通过NFT审核和认证。Rebels此时便可以成为这个桥梁去链接不同的NFT社区，让用户可以展示自己的持有或是热爱的图。

我认为财务价值的主要形式有两种。

• 第一个是团队可以控制的，是创建人们想要使用的产品。第二种方式是社区为人们创造参与的理由

• 第二个则是运动。人们参加运动是因为他们喜欢这项运动。体育运动的副产品可以是健康和社会效益。人们可能会加入后者，但这项运动是核心。

玩法分析

定制化的玩法是很有趣的想法，透过定制化用户不在受制于单个头像，以一个头像加徽章的方式可以向其他人展现持有者参与的其他项目或是持有的其他NFT。徽章也有很多很多可能性：，NFT on NFT 直接的提供了二创以及衍生的可能性；，一个艺术家未来可能不一定需要在Opensea发布NFT转而制作徽章系列，类似社交媒体的表情包系列；。亦或是或者透过某个徽章，成员可以去自发的组建subDAO。

在最近的思考和交流中，社区内成员提出成就概念。如今有很多项目会发放POAP，POAP的核心概念很像传统游戏中的成就。那么我们是否可以延展成就系统，一种成就是传统的POAP，另一种成就是基于初始持有者，例如持有时间超过500天，项目方便会发放一个钻石手的成就。因此徽章不会局限于一部分内容，可能性是更多的。

RebelsLabs

Rebels Labs是NFT项目Rebels中文社区所提出的subDAO概念。

理念

其理念在于最大化利用Rebels独创的徽章系统的潜力，将徽章转换成广告位，从而实现广告产业从web2到web3的转变。当每一个Rebels持有者都佩戴着某个项目的徽章时，我们的原生流量估算在7k左右，通过7k持有者分散传播进而引导社交裂变，从而形成web3独有的病毒式宣传方式。

• 可以为发售结束的NFT项目进行实体周边的定制，这是Rebels Labs背靠全球轻工业巨头——中国所拥有的天然优势。

Rebels Labs将“球衣广告位”为蓝本，力求在Web3世界中绘制一副更为宏伟的广告蓝图。
