Rather, it was the working classes who took the canon most seriously.

While elites might have consumed culture for status, ordinary readers engaged with it morally and personally, seeing in Shakespeare and the classics a means of moral development and self-mastery. This revelation directly challenges the 20th-century academic assumption (inspired by postmodernism and Marxist cultural studies) that “high culture” is inherently exclusionary.

3) Reading as Self-Improvement

As previously mentioned, working-class readers saw literature as a tool for self-improvement. But while education would certainly improve their prospects for social mobility, it is often the aspects of moral improvement that people of the time valued most.

Pulling from autobiographies and letters, Rose shows that workers often described reading as a form of inner liberation, citing writers like Ruskin, Carlyle, and Dickens as their moral guides. They read with a degree of seriousness we rarely see today, treating their books as beloved companions in a lifelong pursuit of wisdom.

4) A Decline in Cultural Aspiration

The Intellectual Life of the British Working Classes also traces what Rose sees as the tragic decline of this culture of self-directed education. Specifically, he shows how the rise of mass media and television use following WWII made a preference for reading slowly give way to one for passive entertainment.

Without romanticizing the past, Rose argues that earlier generations’ intellectual independence, and specifically their willingness to grapple with difficult texts, puts modern culture to shame. He suggests that the democratization of education paradoxically coincided with a lowering of intellectual standards , just like how more people than ever attend university today, yet popular culture as a whole is much less intellectually vibrant than it was 50 years ago.

5) Autobiography as Evidence

Much of Rose’s argument rests on hundreds of working-class autobiographies. These personal writings reveal that workers were deeply reflective about what they read, and acutely aware of how it shaped their worldview.

Throughout history, kings, generals, and diplomats have turned words into numbers, and letters into symbols, to protect their secrets. From the hieroglyphs of ancient Egypt to Julius Caesar’s “Caesar Cipher,” and the complex codes of the Renaissance, this story reveals how deeply the need for secrecy has shaped human civilization. Yet, the true turning point in the history of cryptography came in the mid-20th century, through the mind of a young mathematician working quietly in England: Alan Mathison Turing.

Born in 1912, Turing displayed an extraordinary talent for abstract reasoning and logical thought from an early age. His education at Cambridge University sharpened his mathematical vision, but what truly set him apart was not just his brilliance , it was his courage to transform thought into reality. In 1936, he published his groundbreaking paper, On Computable Numbers, which laid the theoretical foundation of modern computer science. In it, Turing introduced the concept of a machine capable of performing any logical operation , what we now call the Turing Machine, the ancestor of all computers.

But Turing’s name would be forever engraved in history not merely as a mathematician, but as a cryptographer who changed the course of humanity. When the Second World War broke out in 1939, warfare was no longer fought only on the battlefield , it had become a war of intelligence and information. Nazi Germany used a device called the Enigma machine to encrypt all of its military communications. With its billions of possible daily settings, Enigma was considered unbreakable. In response, the British government gathered a secret team of scientists and linguists at Bletchley Park to decipher the code. Among them, one mind stood out: Alan Turing.

Turing approached the Enigma not as a puzzle, but as a system that could be understood and outsmarted. Realizing that human effort alone could never keep up with the endless permutations of the machine, he decided to fight machine with machine. He designed an electromechanical device called the Bombe, which could test vast numbers of possible Enigma settings automatically and identify the correct one based on logical patterns. This invention drastically reduced the time needed to decode enemy messages , from weeks to mere hours. Historians now believe that Turing’s work shortened the war by more than two years and saved millions of lives.

Yet, Turing’s story is not only one of triumph , it is also one of tragedy. After the war, his contributions remained classified, hidden behind a wall of secrecy. His name was not celebrated, his genius not honored. Instead, Turing became the target of the very society he had helped to protect. In 1952, he was prosecuted for homosexuality , a crime under British law at the time , and subjected to chemical castration. The ordeal broke his spirit. In 1954, Alan Turing was found dead at the age of 41, an apparent suicide.

Years passed, and the world entered the digital age. Computers, the internet, artificial intelligence, and modern cybersecurity all emerged from the foundations he had built. Cryptography was no longer a tool of war but a daily necessity , protecting our bank accounts, our online identities, and even the messages we send to one another. Every time we encrypt a password or secure a communication, we are, in a way, continuing Turing’s legacy.

Today, Alan Turing is remembered not only as a mathematician but as a symbol of human intellect and moral courage. In 2009, the British government formally apologized for his mistreatment. In 2013, Queen Elizabeth II granted him a royal pardon. Later, his portrait was placed on the £50 banknote , a quiet yet powerful act of historical justice.

Turing’s life reminds us that knowledge is not only power, but also a moral responsibility. He not only broke codes , he broke the limits of human thought. Without his vision, modern computing, artificial intelligence, and digital security might never have existed.

OG NFTs and Their Strategic Value Across Networks

OG NFTs are the earliest, most iconic collections that shaped NFT culture and hold historical value in the ecosystem. Certain networks create OG NFTs to bring communities together and, for various reasons, make projects more active and accessible. We first saw this with Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC).

BAYC NFT holders received an APE token airdrop on March 17, 2022, with the following distribution:

BAYC holders: 10,094 $APE

MAYC (Mutant Ape) holders: 2,042 $APE

BAKC (Kennel Club) holders: 856 $APE (if held alongside BAYC or MAYC)

So, a single BAYC NFT holder received roughly 10,000 APE tokens.

Other projects have followed similar approaches:

AltLayer airdropped to OG Badge and OH Ottie collections, with OH Ottie receiving roughly $10,000 in value.

Vana rewarded its OG NFT holders with airdrops worth around $5,500.

PENGU distributed $PENGU tokens to its NFT holders.

Deadfellaz NFT holders received “Deadfrenz” airdrops.

On Common, Lamalumu NFTs were also used to reward early community members.

However, some projects may have been exploited. For example, on Celestia, projects like Slosth or on Initia, Racoon might have been used opportunistically, and Slosths could potentially be separated from that trend.

Most OG NFTs across networks are now dormant or inactive, but some still hold potential for strategic engagement.

On Aptos, The Loonies currently have a floor price of $55, with the CEO’s PFP adding visibility , I personally acquired one.

On Cyber, Raf Mafia NFTs are trading around a floor of $35,40, representing a potential calculated risk.

On Layer 2s like Arbitrum, Scroll, and zkSync, OG NFTs still exist, though the hype may have faded.

On Farcaster, the first 10,000 members received NFTs, which currently have a floor price of around $200 on OpenSea. Earlier, NFTs were also minted through Zora on Farcaster, showing how many projects adopt OG NFTs as a method to engage their communities and create potential opportunities.

On Solana, Wormhole conducted airdrops to Madlands NFT holders, and projects like Pythenion NFTs also show promising potential. It is highly likely that when Backpack PerpDEX distributes its airdrop, Madlands NFT holders will receive rewards.

For those looking to explore opportunities, these dormant OG NFTs , from BAYC to Lamalumu, Deadfellaz, and PENGU , could still offer unique potential across networks.

Peter Lynch, by managing the Magellan Fund, achieved a 29.2% annual compounded return in dollar terms and grew the fund from $18 million to $14 billion.

Here are 10 Investment Lessons from his own words:

1- Don't Buy What You Don't Know

Peter Lynch states that you must know very well the reason you are buying a stock. He always says: "If you can't explain to an 11-year-old in less than 2 minutes why you own a stock, you shouldn't buy that stock."

2- Don't Try to Predict the Economy

According to Lynch, trying to predict the economy or interest rates is pointless, and making macroeconomic forecasts is a waste of time. What matters are the companies. Companies plan their futures according to the economy.

3- Be Patient

Be patient when both buying and selling. If you don't buy now, you won't miss out. Investing is a long-term game. Even if you had bought Walmart (the US retail giant) 10 years after its IPO, you would have increased your money 30-fold.

4- Great Stocks Are Everywhere

Don't be biased towards certain sectors or companies. Even in bankrupt companies, there can be great opportunities. Don't be stubborn and limit yourself. Look at even the so-called "boring" companies.

5- When to Sell?

Make sure you write down why you are buying a stock when you purchase it. If those reasons are no longer valid, you can consider selling.

6- Stocks Can Always Go Lower

A falling stock can fall even further. Just because a stock's price has dropped a lot does not guarantee that it will rise again.

7- Stocks Can Always Go Higher

Just because a stock has risen a lot does not mean it cannot rise even more; if its balance sheet is good, it can rise further. You don't have to sell a high-priced stock immediately.

8- Price Decline Doesn't Mean You're Wrong

In the short term, stock prices are affected by emotional and instant market movements. Think long-term.

9- Stocks May Not Recover Over Time

Not every stock may recover after a decline; it could take a very long time to reach your cost basis. Evaluate the risks well.

10- Diversification is Important

Diversify your investments. Putting all your money into a single stock is risky. There might be things you don't see.

POAP enables event attendees to verify their participation by collecting virtual identities and storing them on-chain. Since badges are all one-of-a-kind, they can only be received at the event. Each badge is aesthetically different and cannot be copied, so it can be used as an NFT and sold on exchanges. POAP is minted on the X-Dai (Gnosis) network and is mostly free. Poaps minted in the X-Dai network can be converted to Erc-721 standard and sold as nft if desired. The amount required for this transaction is 0.1 Eth + gas fee

There are many types of POAPs, depending on the work done or the tasks completed. The main ones are; Community Call - AMA-culture-arts-education-entertainment-testnet poaps.
