As global adoption continues to increase and over 150 governments around the world explore issuing a digital currency, many investors are still hesitant and skeptical of crypto.

The truth is often somewhere in the middle. Today, there is a lack of regulation for crypto and a lot of negative media around cryptocurrency which shadows the true innovation and progress being made in real-world use cases for digital currencies.

Many choose arrogance and ignorance instead of curiosity and exploration of different perspectives on cryptocurrency.

If you follow some of the most successful investors of the last decade, for example, venture capital firm a16z they have raised billions for investment in cryptocurrency and Web3 ecosystems. I like to follow the smart money, and if you do your research on a16z’s performance over the last two decades you’d see that they are smart money. A16z made billions in the Web 1.0 and Web 2.0 investment cycles and now they have four cryptocurrency funds with $4.5B raised for their latest fund to invest in Web 3.0.

Markets are seasonal; crypto is no exception. Summers give way to the chill of winter, and winter thaws in the heat of summer. Advances made by builders during dark days eventually re-trigger optimism when the dust settles. With the recent market downturn, we may be entering such a period now.

As legendary investor Benjamin Graham once allegorized: It’s best to pay no mind to “Mr. Market”, who frequently boomerangs from exuberance and euphoria to despair and depression.

Looking further into the data, you can see that cryptocurrency’s first break-out use case is in global banking, aka decentralized finance or DeFi, which is already a global competitor.

We’re very excited about decentralized finance’s potential ahead to unlock financial opportunities for billions of global internet users.

We believe just like Balaji Srinivasan, an acclaimed crypto entrepreneur, and investor, that most humans will bring their financial lives online just like they brought their social lives online in the 2010s to today.

The transition to transparent banking that is online will take decades, just like our transition to using the internet for our daily lives today in 2023.

We believe that over the next few years, we will see global regulation put in place that enables more investors to get access to cryptocurrency. Since there isn’t clarity yet in regulation, there is an opportunity to beat the unaware and risk-averse investors to the best opportunities in decentralized finance now to increase our upside return over the long term.

The regulation is coming and with leaders like Tom Emmer in the US Congress, we will very likely see pro-crypto regulation enacted ahead as crypto aligns with America’s ideals of freedom and liberty.

“It’s not about crypto,” says Emmer in a Coindesk interview.

It’s about what crypto is facilitating – the movement towards Web3, or what he prefers to call the “ownership economy.”

Ultimately, this is about “restoring liberty and choice to individuals.”

With some hints that positive regulation will be coming and a plethora of data backing why Ethereum and other DeFi Web3 ecosystems like Aave will dominate in global finance ahead as profitable businesses that are enabling more freedom and access to anyone who chooses to use the network.

We’ll save going into the weeds on how to value crypto and where to start for later, we’ll just share this one reference for those who want to dive in right away on homework for what to learn about.
