As sixty edges closer, I look back over my life and wonder—where has the time gone? I couldn’t wait to start middle school. I couldn’t wait for high school. I couldn’t wait to get my driver’s license, to graduate, to get married, to finish college. But in all that waiting, I wasn’t truly present. Instead, I was constantly chasing the next milestone, always looking ahead rather than embracing the now.

Now, with more days behind me than ahead, my focus is shifting. Life feels more precious. Time with family and dear friends is no longer something I take for granted—it’s cherished. None of us know how much time we have on this Earth, and with every loss I’ve experienced—friends passing, the heartbreak of two miscarriages, the loss of both my parents—I’ve come to appreciate life’s fleeting beauty even more. The number of sunrises and sunsets is finite, and each one matters.

Like the changing seasons, the seasons of life each have a purpose.

Spring is a time of newness—of growing, learning, and experiencing. Everything feels fresh, and possibilities stretch endlessly before us.

Then comes Summer, a season marked by outward focus—on appearances, accomplishments, and the way the world perceives us. It’s the season of fast cars, loud music, and friendships that shape our journey.

Fall arrives, and with it, change. The colors shift, and life takes on deeper meaning. Loss becomes part of the landscape, reminding me to savor every moment. The once-consuming need for external validation fades, replaced by a quiet understanding of what truly matters.

Winter, the final season, brings a gentle stillness. Frosted hair, laugh lines, weathered skin, and eyes that gleam with wisdom—these are the marks of a life well-lived. It wasn’t a perfect life, but it was mine. And whether I realized it or not, I was always in the director’s chair, shaping my own story.
