We are thrilled to announce that Wam has successfully secured a grant from the Oasis Onchain Fund, a pivotal moment that marks a significant step forward in our mission to empower emerging markets, particularly the underserved Caribbean region. This achievement is more than just a financial boost; it represents a transformative leap in bringing consumer crypto solutions to areas that have long been overlooked.

The Caribbean is an untapped market in the world of blockchain and cryptocurrency, primarily due to stringent banking regulations and limited access to financial services. Historically, acquiring crypto in the Caribbean has been one of the most challenging endeavors. Banks in the region typically restrict users from wiring funds to crypto exchanges or using their credit or debit cards for crypto purchases. This has left many potential users excluded from the burgeoning world of digital assets. However, with the support of the Oasis Onchain Fund and the technological prowess of Arbitrum, Wam is set to change this narrative.

Wam has always been a champion of financial inclusion, and now, thanks to the grant from Oasis, we can expand our efforts significantly. What Stefen and the Oasis team have done by building a grassroots blockchain community in the Caribbean is truly commendable. Their ability to now act on this foundation by providing grants to support ecosystem growth is a major win for the region. This grant empowers Wam to continue breaking down barriers to entry for Caribbean blockchain users. Our platform allows individuals to seamlessly onboard from Caribbean cash to cryptocurrency, all while leveraging Arbitrum's low transaction fees—a crucial feature for emerging markets where cost-efficiency can make or break adoption.

The introduction of proof-of-stake, gas-efficient, and low-fee blockchains leveraging stablecoins are a major step forward for the Caribbean especially with Arbitrum where the native assets are rooted on the Ethereum chain. This has been one of the most significant innovations in blockchain technology, enabling stablecoins and, in turn, opening up new markets to asset classes that would not be financially viable for low income markets. Thanks to Oasis and Arbitrum, Wam can now provide a regulatory-compliant, innovative solution that not only facilitates seamless onboarding into crypto but also supports cross-border payments and empowers Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to receive digital payments locally. This will contribute to the diversification and economic upliftment of the Caribbean economies, which have been largely underserved by traditional banking institutions.

This grant is a big leap forward for the Caribbean blockchain ecosystem. It further enables us to bring a robust, inclusive financial solution to a region in dire need of alternatives to the conventional financial system. We are excited about the road ahead and remain committed to driving financial inclusion and empowerment in the Caribbean and beyond. Together with Oasis and Arbitrum, we are opening up the world of crypto to the Caribbean, unlocking new possibilities for individuals and businesses alike.

Follow along, we’re just getting started and will be making waves soon to hit Caribbean shores.
