This standard was created by Across Protocol in collaboration with Uniswap and provides a framework for cross-chain actions based on intents. This unlocks better UX for users, easier swaps, and shared liquidity. Support for this standard pushes forward interoperability between the Superchain and Ethereum as a whole.

Anyone can monitor and permissionlessly challenge invalid withdrawals, removing the need for a trusted third party and paving the way for greater community participation. With this, Base moves closer to Stage 1 decentralization, although a Security Council and modifications in the approval process for Base protocol upgrades are still needed. Base is on track to reach Stage 1 in the coming months.

Soneium will enable Fault Proofs with an L1 contract upgrade to Soneium Minato on November 4th. This upgrade will extend the native bridge challenge period to 7 days.

The first charter of Blockspace Charters has been ratified by the Token House! The Standard Rollup Charter will now hold the onchain and offchain criteria for a "Standard Rollup" and the charter be added to the Operating Manual.

Members for the new iteration of the CFC have been notified. Selected members can opt-in by November 1st to then participate on an onboarding call on November 4th.

Badgeholders and guest voters will vote to determine the round's amount to be distributed within the range of 1.1M and 3.5M OP as well as the budget for each category. These votes should reflect the impact of the projects listed. Voters will then evaluate projects and allocate rewards through either one of the suggested methods or creating a custom one.

Kraken launches "Ink", the latest chain to join the ranks at the Superchain together with Base, Unichain among more than 30 other chains. Ink will offer 1-second block times. Ink will launch its testnet in November, with Mainnet set to launch during 2025.

Base will upgrade to a fault proof system on October 30th, furthering its decentralization. This will bring permissionless output proposals, meaning anyone will be able to make claims about Base's current state instead of relying on a central party, and will also enable challenges to output proposals, meaning if makes a faulty or fraudulent claim, anyone can challenge it.

The CFC will continue to involve members earlier in the governance design process. The new commission will be split into three different tracks, each with its own lead: Operational, Organizational, and Design Research. Additionally, a Commission Lead will manage the CFC operations and hold the Foundation accountable to executing on this Charter.

Up to 18 members will be selected based on relevant qualifications to each track. All selected members will be informed and must opt-in to participate. The new iteration will begin on November 4th.

The Standard Rollup Charter has been updated to include:

• History integrity checks to assess discrepancies between chains have been moved to offchain tooling. These checks ensure chains that were deployed before the Blockspace Charter or the Standard Rollup are implemented correctly and are consistent with the Law of Chains.

• Temporary control structures have been added to a limited set of chains. Upgrades for Base and Unichain will be implemented through a 3/3 upgrade multisig, with the following signers: the Optimism Security Council, the Optimism Foundation, and the Chain Governor.

Uniswap Labs announced Unichain, an L2 to become a home for DeFi and liquidity across chains.

Unichain is working to bring better interoperability, enabling seamless access to cross-chain swapping, and collaborating with Optimism to bring cross-chain message passing to the Superchain. With one-second block times at launch and upcoming 250ms Flash-blocks thanks to collaborations with Flashbots and OP Labs, Unichain promises faster, more efficient transactions.

Automata Network is building a machine attestation layer that extends machine trust to Ethereum with TEE Coprocessors. Automata Network will launch Automata, an OP Stack chain, using its native token ATA as a custom gas token, along with the OP Stack implementation of Alt-DA using EigenDA for data availability.

Discussion continues around a petition put forward by GFX Labs to accelerate decentralization of governance in Optimism.

The petition divides a plan into three phases of decentralization with Phase 1 being the handover of control over funds, contracts and governance assets to governance. This led to an open conversation on decentralization of governance and a response from the Foundation addressing the petition.

The new round focusing on contributions to governance will open on Tuesday, October 1st and distribute between 1.1M and 3.5M OP. You can begin by completing your Optimist Profile on retrofunding.optimism.io and checking out the round's details.

As round 5 saw a lower amount of applications, the Foundation has proposed that Citizens vote on a new OP allocation amount. Round 5’s initial funding was set at 8M OP. Citizens would vote for an amount within the range of 2M - 8M OP, with the median amount as the final round size.

Gitcoin will collaborate with Optimism to build a Grants Claiming Tool, OG-Claim, for a Mission Request. OG-Claim will leverage Hedgey for payments and Gitcoin's Allo Protocol for grant allocation.

This proposal requests that the Token House allow the Grants Council to create and submit rolling Mission Requests, using unallocated budget from Intent 3A. Rolling Mission Requests would still require a sponsorship from a member of the Grants Council and upon approval, sent to a Token House vote in the following voting period.

Eigen Labs released a blog detailing the new security model for EigenLayer in preparation for slashing to go live. This model has 3 parts: Operator Sets, Total Stake, and Unique Stake. This model offers:

• Greater control over slashing risks, slashing is localized to individual AVS and operators can control how much of their stake any AVS can slash.

EigenLayer’s TVL figures mantains around $11.7b according to DefiLlama. 

The first SQL-based ZK Coprocessor is now live! Through its functionalities, this release enables teams to develop expressive queries and applications:

• Self-register Ethereum smart contracts to be proveably indexed into a verifiable database and queried over.

• Perform custom SQL queries like selecting distinct columns, calculating averages, and summing values from tables with specific conditions and limits.

Lagrange also launched the Themis Launch Program to help other protocols develop applications through the ZK Coprocessor, leveraging proofs for specific use cases. Partners include EtherFi, Azuki Odyssey, Gearbox, Tokemak, Usual Money, and 3 Jane.

Level is the first stablecoin protocol powered by restaked dollar tokens. The protocol mints lvlUSD when users make deposits, which are then restaked, and users are able to earn yield on restaked deposits.

This partnership will be focused in exploring the use of dollar tokens for crypto-economic security without the volatility that comes with security relying on assets like ETH and BTC. Soneium, the L2 built by Sony Block Solutions Labs and Superchain member, launches their testnet Soneium Minato. It offers a fast and cost-effective environment for developers. Learn more through the Soneium Docs

Together with the launch the L2 announced Soneium Spark, a program to boost ecosystem builders through mentorships, infrastructure and strategic partnerships. The program will begin investing on builders with opening applications in the coming weeks.

OP Stack chains can now deploy the Bridged USDC Standard introduced by Circle. This standard was created to make sure chain operators can deploy a form of bridged USDC that is capable of being upgraded in-place to native USDC, which prevents fragmentation problems that might arise.

Balancer continues to expand across the Superchain, by deploying on Mode and Fraxtal, and Aura, a yield optimizer and meta-governance built on top of Balancer, expands to Base. Balancer also participated in SuperFest distributing ~45,000 OP.

On Monday, the Security Council proposal was cancelled since the initial vote stated 6 spots were open for election on the Council, when 7 spots are being elected. The new vote was initiated on Monday, delegates who voted on the old proposal will need to vote again.

Voting is open until September 1st.

Alisha.eth was re-elected as the Security Council Lead. The elected members on the re-vote will join Alisha as council members.

The Granite Network Upgrade was approved in the Tokens House, and moves to a Citizens House veto vote.

If you disagree with the upgrades, you may cast your vote on Snapshot. If you do not wish to veto but would like to register your participation in this voting cycle, you may select “No Veto”. If passed, the upgrade will be scheduled for September 10th.

EigenLayer’s TVL remains around $11.7b according to DefiLlama. 

The update that allows any ERC-20 token to be used as a restakable asset is now on Mainnet. This expansion significantly broadens the range of assets that can participate in and contribute to EigenLayer's shared security model.

Guides have been updated for AVS and restakers to learn how to support and restake ERC-20 tokens. More info here.

EigenDA announced teams can now restake their ERC-20 token to secure a custom quorum for their rollup. Quorums are groups of operators defined by a distinct distribution of restaked assets. Until now, EigenDA had two default quorums: ETH and EIGEN. With custom quorums, rollups can add a quorum resulting in a greater alignment of the quorum and rollup: "If the quorum's operator-stake were to perform a data withholding attack, they would be undermining their own token's value". As tokens quorums are added to EigenDA, operators can choose to opt-in.

For now, adding additional token to the set of quorums is permissioned. But the process will be permissionless.

Morph L2 is now powered by the eOracle network, allowing its builders to leverage cryptoeconomically secure real-world data and computational resources.

EigenLayer announced the withdrawal delay for staked EIGEN has been lowered from 24 days to 7 days. “This will limit the liquidity risks of staking EIGEN in preparation for future potential changes once intersubjective slashing is live on mainnet.”

Sreeram addresses the airdrop controversy and what changes they are making internally to boost transparency. They take a look at the new updates of permissionless token support and how they will impact AVS security preferences.

Zach Obront, Council Lead to the Developer Advisory Board, shared OP Succinct the plan to upgrade an OP Stack chain into a ZK rollup. The upgrade would replace the dispute game allowing anyone to post the next rollup state providing a ZK proof of its validity.

After Zora, Worldcoin announced its partnership with Hyperlane. Worldcoin is now connected to Hyperlane, the open interoperability framework that connects chains and enables building interchain apps. Worldcoin can now access and prove humanity on other blockchain networks, World ID can expand beyond Worldchain and build interchain apps.

Superchain Eco in collaboration with PrimeDAO organized this competition focused on exploring topics on OP Governance and tokenomics. Explore focus areas and submit your research before August 28th.

Security vulnerabilities identified during third-party audits caused the permissioned fallback mechanism to be activated by the Foundation, following protocol. The vulnerabilities have not been exploited, and user assets were never at risk.

This upgrade addresses those vulnerabilities, includes an L2 hardfork to improve the stability and performance of the fault proof system, and proposes to extend Guardian and DeputyGuardian capabilities to prevent referencing invalid anchor states among other implementations to improve robustness.

If passed, the upgrade will undergo Citizen’s veto and then will be scheduled for September 10th. Node operators must upgrade their node software prior to September 11th. Any proof submissions within the last 7 days from the upgrade will be invalid and users will have to resubmit the proofs.

EigenLayer’s TVL remains at $12.5b according to DefiLlama. 

An upcoming update will enable EigenLayer to support any ERC-20 token as a restakable asset. This broadens the assets that can contribute to EigenLayer’s shared security and allows to significantly enlarge the protocol’s cryptoeconomic security. Additionally, AVS will be able to pick and choose which ERC-20 tokens will secure their services.

The mainnet deployment update is scheduled for this week and EigenDA will be the first AVS to test and use this feature.

EigenDA announced a 10x reduction in pricing for both on-demand and reserved bandwidth customers. Additionally, it unveiled a free tier with up to 1.28KiB/s in throughput. These updates will only apply after payments go live. Most of the payment fees will be redistributed back to stakers and operators.

After announcing its partnership with Zora, Hyperlane partners with another Superchain member. Worldcoin is now connected to Hyperlane, enabling the protocol to access and prove humanity on other blockchain networks, World ID to expand beyond Worldchain and build interchain apps.

Othentic announced a new partnership with Ungate, the AVS building AI solutions, and Venn, the AVS building a unified modular security infrastructure. Both AVSs leverage the Othentic stack to abstract away low-level implementations and minimize their engineering overhead.

Arpa Randcast, Arpa's Network on-chain Random Number Generator (RNG) service, is now available on Taiko, as well as previously supported networks (Optimism, Base and Redstone). Learn more about when to use Randcast.

Given a recent article that mentioned EigenLayer and Eigen Labs employees receiving airdrops, EigenLayer published a response on the steps Eigen Labs has taken to improve transparency.

The OP Labs Team published a new post on Optimism’s push towards bringing interoperability to the Superchain to build a unified chain experience by adopting standardized cross-ecosystem interfaces. This aims to foster greater accessibility and more innovation.

Nominations for the Security Council are officially closed! 

Each nominee can still receive the necessary approvals from 8 of the Top 100 delegates until August 19th. Approved candidates will then be part of an Election Town Hall hosted on August 20th. Elections will take place during Voting Cycle #26, 6 months before elected members take their position.

Trust Tiers will not be used in Season 6 in order to build a new, more effective reputation model that can predict whether a team will successfully complete a grant. These were selected based on their GitHub contribution graph using a modified EigenTrust algorithm, which can be run on graphs to measure the impact of recursive trust propagation. EigenLayer’s TVL remains at $12.6b according to DefiLlama. 

The Rewards protocol, the onchain system that enables AVSs rewards stakers and operators, went live on mainnet on August 6th. 

EigenDA is the first AVS to implement its own reward system leveraging the Rewards Protocol. It will give its stakers and operators monthly rewards starting at 10 ETH and growing over time. Recipients will also qualify for EigenLayer’s programmatic incentive program, which distributes additional EIGEN rewards.

Ungate InfiniRoute is the first AVS focused on AI solutions.

It seeks to take a step beyond open-source models by providing a decentralized alternative secured by EigenLayer. The AVS is a network of agents, models, datasets and infrastructure that coordinates through AI-OS and swarmnets ultimately selecting the best model through the Model Orchestrator for any given prompt.

These two AVSs announced their collaboration to power modular blockchains with Nuffle's Fast Finality Layer and Radius's Decentralized Sequencer.

Hyperlane launches de Hyperlane Foundation to steward the expansion of the Hyperlane Protocol and oversee HYPE, a new token to establish an alliance between motivated users of the Hyperlane network. Meanwhile the Hyperlane Alliance, which includes the Foundation, represents the interests of users and developers who collectively shape the ecosystem and awards grants to those building on it.

Manta Network's L2 adds integrations to EigenDA together with NEAR DA, 0G, Nubit, and Dill, introducing MultiDA on testnet.

Manta Pacific previously was integrated only to Celestia, now by adding support for more protocols it provides Manta Pacific with fallback redundancy. This brings added security and reliability to the L2 without any change on the user experience.

Stateless apps run across all EVM and non-EVM chains enabling a consistent state among them. The first pilot stateless app is a Skateboard Workshop where you can assemble your own skateboard NFT across 20+ chains. The app has already been integrated among EVM chains and will expand to Ton blockchain and Solana and Eclipse on the next phases.

The ARPA Network AVS is a BLS Threshold Signature Scheme (BLS-TSS) Network, a decentralized network composed of multiple groups of nodes that securely generate BLS threshold signatures. These signatures are then combined and submitted to the blockchain. Its architecture combines its existing infrastructure of ARPA Chain with EigenLayer's shared security.

BLS signature schemes as designed by the Arpa Network can be used for verifiable Random Number Generator (RNG), infrastructure for custom bridges, among other use cases. Randcast is the first application on EigenLayer, providing verifiable RNG through cryptography. So far, the AVS is secured by 24 operators and 77,700+ with 1.38 Million ETH in value restaked.

After the last days of market chaos and price drops, EigenLayer’s TVL sits at $12.2b according to DefiLlama. 

Witness Chain’s Watchtowers now run Challenger Clients for Proof of Location (PoL) on testnet. 

Proof of Location is software that enables DePIN nodes to prove their geographical location. It works by triangulation over internet pings made by many challenger nodes (currently EigenLayer operators) to a prover node looking to prove its location.

The Othentic Stack is a library of production-ready components that enable services to deploy infrastructure and spin up distributed systems that leverage shared security.

With Othentic AVS builders can focus on developing their service, while minimizing engineering overheads and abstracting low-level network implementations. This can include infrastructure to submit operator audits, reward mechanisms, and consensus engines to execute, validate, and approve tasks. 

The Othentic framework allows developers to customize the infrastructure to fit their service. Use cases include Coprocessors, ZK Provers, Decentralized Solvers among other novel computational services.
