What will it take for the average user to crypto protocols in a way similar to web 2.0 protocols like http?”.

Only relevant crypto news please

The team zeroed in on a problem that has been bothering them for a while – getting an overview of developments in the crypto space without the distractions or time wastages from irrelevant ads or other content. Kontext is a news aggregator that addresses this by filtering and sorting all crypto News, using a personalization algorithm that is open to anyone to plug into and customize.

Kontext does this by first breaking down the data silos of individual web 2.0 platforms, allowing users to save their full personal online identities into self-sovereign storages. It then allows them to share their data on a common data layer, with developers. These developers then plug into the data to train personalization algorithms, to improve users’ browsing experience.

According to Chris the framework developed and used by Kontext can be used for other Web3 protocols as well.

He said: “This creates an open ecosystem, in which users benefit from an improved experience, and developers get rewarded for their contribution – creating a self-reinforcing loop. This way, the Kontext ecosystem will unlock a fully personalized internet.”

Chris says that ads will be more personalized compared to web 2.0 advertisements.

The prototype for Kontext was built in two months, after they heard about Web 3.0 Hackathon challenge.

** Road ahead**

Encouraged by the validation for their project, team Kontext now extend the personalization features, as well as promote adoption. Chris elaborates: “We are building a feature that will allow users to log in with their Twitter account, to personalize their own lists. This way, they can build lists for topics like #DeFi #NFT or $BTC and $ETH.”

To foster adoption, Team Kontext is also creating an airdrop for customized reputation NFTs. They intend to reward users with these NFTs, representing their influence in the crypto Twitter sphere. Eventually there could also be a token that aligns the ecosystem around a common strategy.

Thanks to Web 3.0 SEA Alliance

The team is grateful to the organizers of Web 3.0 Hackathon for providing a platform for their idea. Chris said: “Web 3.0 Hackathon allowed us to showcase our first prototype and gave us confidence in continuing to build our product.”

“The team supported us very closely and continued to be helpful whenever we had questions. We also like that the organization was fully transparent, using Github and Discord. This matches with our vision of the future internet we want to create.”

He added: “Our vision is a free internet that automatically personalizes any user’s browsing experience, while protecting their privacy. From recommendations in e-commerce (Amazon, Jindong), entertainment (Netflix, Douban), to search (Google) and personalized advertisement, Web 3.0 will improve accuracy of personalization all over the web.”

Core members of Team Kontext

Feifei Konkon

Lana Konkon

Mochi

Being in the IoT industry for the past five years, he says that he felt “a gradual shift in the type of data that is in demand.”

“Volumetric data such as a higher number of data points or a higher sampling rate used to be key,” he explains. “But that has changed in recent times. The value of data and data veracity are becoming increasingly important for stakeholders. I think blockchain has a unique proposition here.”

His project – Quartz – addresses the issue of data veracity for the fast-growing IoT industry, where a significant portion of data verification is still performed manually. Quartz incorporates a wide range of technologies – edge computing, device management, containerization, and smart contracts – to deliver an end-to-end solution for IoT data delivery. The solution introduces efficacy in some of the most data sensitive domains such as regulatory compliance and certification, facilitating investor confidence as well.

Wide applicability

Team Quartz believes that their solution can be applicable to any IoT usage or situation. “Yes, that is the plan, and we are confident of achieving it. IoT and big data will always be horizontally spread across multiple domains.”

Team Quartz’s experience with various verticals – smart buildings, utilities, transportation and maritime – bolsters their confidence in the wide applicability of their solution. “While each industry has its own sets of unique issues, we have identified common core features relevant across the board,” he says.

He adds: “For example, when it comes to green financing, being able to autonomously influence the trust factor of a particular deployment has immediate monetary impact, both to the lender and borrower. This is surely a step in the right direction, and I believe this will, to a huge extent, accelerate the process of loan reviews and encourage more asset digitalization.”

Rollout plans

Team Quartz plans to roll out the solution in an agile manner, through industry-specific iterations. Starting with a closed beta test in Q3 of this 2022, they aim to go to market by Q1 of 2023, with all or most of its core features in place.

Jasper says that the most important validation will come from actual users. As such, he is looking forward to the live, on-the-ground feedback that he is expecting to receive during the beta tests. The team has already received interest from some partners who are ready to a trial run in their environment, to evaluate the solution.

However, given that it’s still early days, Jasper is also tempering his optimism: “There are many intricacies and difficulties, especially with a significant portion of inputs that is near impossible to digitalize and track. Hence, I would not pretend that the solution would be a miracle pill to the issues at hand.”

On Web 3.0 Hackathon

Jasper believes that events such as Web 3.0 Hackathon, go a long way in encouraging innovation. “I am a firm believer that ideas and talents are nurtured through empowerment,” he said. “It is important to give people with aspirations the opportunity, support and freedom to showcase themselves and learn from the experience.”

He added: “The openness of this event especially, has allowed a lot of room for innovation and creative thinking amongst all the builders. I would like to give a huge shoutout to the rest of the participants as well – I saw tons of interesting ideas during their presentations, and it was an eye-opening experience to me in terms of the possibilities of Web 3.0.”

Core Members of Team Quartz:

Jasper Tan Jian Ming – Team leader, solution architect

John Nguyen Ahn Chuan – Backend and embedded system designer

Li Chenxi – Smart contract developer

To circumvent this, developers often have had to implement their own event logs canister. But this would have its own shortcomings: there would be no interface to browse event logs; they will not be uniform, nor will they be trusted by users.

Holistic solution

ICES (Internet Computer Event System) is a solution developed by ICFans Labs. It addresses all these pain points head-on. With ICES, developers no longer need to develop their own event log canister. Developers can easily view event logs through ICES’ explorer function.

Product manager and full stack developer of ICES, Lee.C, further elaborates: “While canister developers can store their event logs in their own defined canisters, if the standards defined by each person are not uniform, it will limit the DFINITY Lego ecosystem formation.”

He adds: “ICES is a complete solution for event logs. It is completely open source, free to use, simple to integrate, and provides a permanent data storage, plus a developer-friendly API and explorer function.”

An additional value-add of the system is that it provides data metrics for analysis.

Besides picking up the second prize of US$15,000 at Web 3.0 Hackathon, ICES also won the Community Award and the DFINITY Ecological Bounty. The Community Award of US$3,000 and US$300 in Alibaba Cloud Credits Coupons is given to the most popular project, based on comments, retweets, and likes. ICES received 377 comments, 374 retweets and 375 likes in total.

The core development members of the project come from a wide range of fields – public chain, fintech, big data, information communication and other related industries. All the team members each have more than eight years of development experience. They have rich experience in the crypto field and have participated in DeFi, blockchain browser, cross-chain bridge, and their underlying infrastructures.

Next Steps

The team plans to add more advanced features to ICES to make the data on it more transparent.

“We will continue to polish ICES, making it more usable, Lee said. “Our goal is to make ICES an essential infrastructure for the IC ecosystem. To achieve this vision, the active participation of the whole community is very important. The future of ICES will be decided by the DAO (decentralized autonomous organization).

Core Team Members

Lee C, Product – Manager & Full Stack Developer

Youkers – Backend & Smart Contract Developer

Key – Frontend Developer

The project incorporates a wide range of technologies – edge computing, device management, containerization, and smart contracts – to deliver an end-to-end solution for IoT data delivery. Quartz introduces efficacy in some of the most data sensitive domains such as regulatory compliance and certification, facilitating investor confidence as well.

“Data veracity is becoming increasingly important for stakeholders,” representative from Team Quartz, Jasper Tan Jian Ming, said. “I think blockchain has a unique proposition here and thus the idea of integrating the two came to mind.”

He commented on his next steps: “This project brings together players in various verticals and my immediate plan moving forward would be to launch a beta test involving them, to get live, on-the-ground feedback. Fortunately, we do have some partners who are keen to give us a trial run in their environment, so that we can further evaluate our solution.”

There were two second prizes – awarded to ICES, a canister customer event log storage and analysis service for DFINITY network, and to Kontext, a news service that enhances personalization.

Enabling public queries of canister’s interaction records

ICES addresses the issue of how currently canister’s interaction records cannot be publicly queried . With this innovation, any canister can access ICES without permission, store its interactive data permanently, and query it through the public API and dashboard provided by ICES. All smart contracts that need to record event logs and statistics indefinitely and want to make the data public are the target users of ICES.

ICES also picked up two other awards – the Dfinity Ecological Bounty Award and the Community Award. The Ecological Bounty Award is given to a project that best applies the Internet Computer Stack during development. The US$7,000 prize was sponsored by ICPort, DMail and IC Naming, representatives of which companies also evaluated the projects.

The Community Award of US$3,000 and US$300 in Alibaba Cloud Credits Coupons is given for the most popular project, based on comments, retweets and likes. ICES received 377 comments, 374 retweets and 375 likes in total.

The next step in news personalization

Kontext addresses an all-too-familiar issue – time wasted on endless ads and irrelevant content when looking for something that we need. Kontext facilitates superior personalization by hosting a shared data layer and implementing reward mechanisms to present to users the most relevant news per day, in a matter of minutes.

Among the demo projects, Team MetapoLabs had the best score for their project, which involved a fair exposure social network content infrastructure, in which you voted for posts with stablecoin. The quadratic voting algorithm makes the exposure no longer exclusive to KOLs, but to the quality of the content itself. MetapoLabs allows DAPPs Lego such as Web3BBS, Web3Twitter, Web3Reddit to be created.

The aim of the Web 3.0 Hackathon was to provide an opportunity for developers for mutual communication and skill learning. In the long term, it is expected that Web 3.0 will subvert the existing pattern of the Internet industry and even the social order. Decentralization, data privatization, transferable value, and trust will become core concepts of Web 3.0. Users who create network information and data will also share its value. Monopolistic internet giants will be replaced by open source and open smart contract protocol platforms.

Lucas Liu, research director at Huobi Incubator and one of the judges at Web 3.0 Hackathon, said: “This event created an environment filled with hacker spirit and provided an opportunity for teams to learn new things and meet new friends. We were thrilled to see projects and people full of creativity and passion for Web 3.0 coming out of this event, and we look forward to seeing more of it in future events organized by the Web 3.0 SEA Alliance.”

Check the winners and demo teams here:

https://github.com/WEB3-ALLIANCE/Web3Hackathon2022/issues
