Intro

The Earth Change Vending Machine (ECVM) is a mint, a printing-press and a secure vault.

The ECVM sells Coins to buy Land, then prints and stores the legal documents required to fund, build and govern User-owned supply-chains.

Value Types

To more carefully reason about value, we first partition all real world assets (RWAs) into 4 Value Types: {Money, Good, Work, Land}.

1. Money - A reference to value.  Money is not value!

2. Good - The finished OUTPUTS of production.

3. Work - The human INPUTS of production.

4. Land - The earthly INPUTS of production.

Value Tokens

To gain legal authority over these RWAs, we then define 1 legally-binding Value Token: {Coin, Ticket, Contract, Deed} for each Value Type.

1. Coin - A Money with a circulating_supply set by the square_meters of Land held under these terms. (fungible)

2. Ticket - A unique claim on a specific "kind of" future Good. (non-fungible)

3. Contract - A commitment to fulfill a specific "kind of" future Work. (non-fungible)

4. Deed - A proof of a specific "kind of" Land ownership. (non-fungible)

Value Zeroes

• When you trade Work for Land, your monetary wage is 0.

• When you own Land (as Deeds) to own your home, the rent you pay is 0.

• When you own Land (as Deeds) and 'own' the future Work of others (as Contract signatures), you own those future Goods without purchase, so the profit you pay is 0.

Timeline

Fund

• The ECVM asks for the size and price of Land for sale.

• The ECVM mints 1 Coin for each square-meter of Land.

• The ECVM sells those Coins to buy that Land.

Build

• The ECVM asks for the future Goods you want.

• The ECVM mints 1 Ticket for each future Good.

• The ECVM asks for the Work required to fulfill those Tickets.

Terms

Coins

• Like Bitcoin, Coins have no redeemable value, do not represent property ownership, bestow no rights of governance, and imply no financial return.

Tickets

• Each Ticket is backed by the Deeds (Land) and Contracts (Work) required for fulfillment.

  • A Ticket is only valid when all Deeds are ALLOCATED and all Contracts are SIGNED.

• Each Ticket has a unique time-window and conditions under when it may be redeemed.

  • A Tomato Ticket may mature in just a few months, while an Avocado Ticket may not be redeemed until many years after the seed was planted.

Sales

• You may sell future Goods (Tickets) or finished Goods (surplus) for Money.

  • These customers must receive (a tiny amount of) the same "kind of" Land (as Deeds) which fulfilled that production.

  • Customers receive UNALLOCATED and UNVESTED Deeds.

  • This can be done by dedicating some % of profit

  • This ensures all Users gain the physical Sources of Production as Land ownership.

• The ECVM cannot sell Goods for Money because the ECVM never owns any Goods.

  • While the ECVM holds Land temporarily, as it slowly vests to Users.  The Goods produced on that Land belong to Ticket holders who either:

1. Signed a Contract for a Basic Outcome.

2. Bought Tickets to redeem for Product.

3. Bought Tickets to redeem for Profit.

Contracts

• You may participate in the Yearly Basic Outcome Auction, but it is not required.

• To begin a Basic Outcome Auction, the ECVM asks this Group of Groups for the minimum list of essential Goods they want produced over the next Year.

• The ECVM mints 1 Ticket for each requested Good.

  • The ECVM mints 1 Contract for each kind of required Work.

  • The ECVM mints 1 Deed for each kind of required Land.

• The total_time is the hours required to fulfill all Contracts.

• The time_per_User is total_time "divided by" the number_of_Contracts.

• All Contracts are offered at this initial time_per_User commitment.

• After 24 hours, the time_per_User is reduced for all unsigned Contracts.

  • These Contracts require a smaller time commitment while still receiving the same Basic Outcome.

  • This "spreads out" that task by requiring at least 1 other person in that group-of-groups to sign a (maybe part-time) Contract for that "kind of" Work.

• Any Contracts left unsigned after the entire Coin Auction Sequence has ended, must be outsourced or insourced, else that Land cannot be occupied and production cannot begin.

• Any Contract you sign must have a trade-connection with the Users who signed the Contracts used to fulfill the Tickets you hold.

  • This should always be true for Contracts within a Basic Outcome Auction.

Deeds

• The "kind of" Deeds you earn are based on the "kind of" Tickets you hold, and have nothing to do with the "kind of" Contracts you complete.

  • If you hold Tickets for Milk and Honey, you earn Deeds for Cattle and Bees, even as you fulfill a Contract for Plumbing.

Vesting

• The amount of Land you earn in exchange the amount of Work you do (your Land/Work earnings ratio) is based on:

  • The market price of the Land you select, divided-by the market price of the Work you complete. BUGBUG: This is partly wrong since the market prices of Land and Work are both partly wrong.

  • Your Land/Work earnings ratio must decrease as your Land holdings increase to ensure all “late” Users have a chance to own some amount of Land.

Holdings

• You may hold Land (as Deeds), and the future Work of others (as Contract signatures) to own and govern the production of future Goods (as Tickets).

Sales

• You may sell Land (as Deeds) for Money.

• The ECVM cannot sell Land or Deeds for Money.

Static Supply

This fungible token (cryptocurrency) is hard-capped at 510 Trillion, which is approximately equal to the surface area of the Earth, in square_meters.

Circulating Supply

Coins are “sold into circulation” during the Coin Auction Sequence.

This means the number of Coins in circulation is set by the number of square_meters of land held under these Terms.

The DAO cannot add or remove Coins from circulation for any other reason.  

DAO Actions [Automation]

• Ask for the size and price of any land currently for sale on the open market.

• Issue 1 Coin for each square_meter of that land.

• The DAO sells each Coin at or above minimum_price.

• The minimum_price for each Coin = price_of_parcel + price_of_startup_supplies / size_of_parcel.

Governance

You own and control future production when you:

1. Hold the Deeds required for that production.

2. Hold the Contract signatures of others required for that production.

But this only solves the static case - where you perfectly predicted all the future production you wanted.

Growth

When the land owner (Deed holder) is the end user, there is no sale and no profit.

This user-owned "core" cannot produce financial returns

When the land owner (Deed holder) sells surplus for profit, those new users (the customers who paid profit) must also gain Deeds of land ownership.

This user-owned "growth-ring" produces financial returns and scales the size of the system by pressuring current Deed holders to buy the land required to host that future production, else offer some of their current holdings to those new users.

This causes the "core" to grow as long as users buy surplus until, theoretically, all essential supply-chains are user-owned.

But even when all predictable production is user owned, profit will still appear for new inventions and late decisions, emergencies, etc.

Worker Ownership

In a traditional "worker owned" business, each stage of production is co-owned by the people who operate those material Sources, while the users have no voice.  The intermediate product must be sold at each step in each supply-chain.

For example, the Farmer owns the Farm and sells grain to the Miller who owns the Mill, who then sells flour to the Baker who owns the Bakery who finally sells to the user.

User Ownership

In a "user owned" business, all steps in each supply-chain are sole-owned or co-owned by the people who will use that specific future production.  The intermediate products and the finished products are never sold because the users who will finally consume them already own them.

For example, each Bread eater owns a tiny portion of the Farm, the Mill and the Bakery.

Deed Vesting Schedule

• The DAO slowly vests many Deeds to you, as you complete 1 Contract.

• You gain the same kind of Deeds used to fulfill the Tickets you selected.

  • For example, if you select Bread Tickets, you might gain Deeds in a Farm and a Mill and a Bakery.

• You hold Deeds and the Contract signatures of others to own that future production.

Surplus and Profit

• You may sell any future production (Tickets) for Money.

• You may sell any surplus production for Money.

• Some % of profit from all sales may be returned to financial investors for a period no longer than 7 years for each land purchase, meaning each parcel has it's own 7 year vesting schedule which starts at the time of "closing" of the real-estate purchase.

• Some % of profit from all sales must buy more land, without debt (no mortgage allowed), which slowly vests to the users who paid that profit.

• You must alert the user who paid profit (such as on a receipt) : "If you accept these terms, you now hold PENDING Deeds of land ownership".

  • A PENDING Deed means the targeted land has not yet been purchased; or has not yet been re-allocated if already under these terms.

  • Every user must receive this information for every sale, so they can know how the system works, even if the amount of land they gain might be tiny.

Deed Holdings

• You may hold some Deeds as sole-owner and some as co-owner.

• Each sole-owner may exclude everyone, and owns 100% of that future production.

Commentary

When you co-own some % of the land [as Deeds] required for production, and if you also hold the "future work of others" [as Contract signatures]  required for production, you own that same % of that future production even before it has been created!

This protects you from paying the profit you would have otherwise paid to other owners if you had otherwise purchased those goods and services "late", from the regular market.

This solves the static case, where the final outputs of production exactly match the predicted outputs of production (documented as the Tickets you hold).

But users may choose to co-own more than they predict they will need, to hedge against unforeseen troubles in production such as natural disasters.

This creates a user-owned "core", where Ticket holders do not pay profit for any predicted goods and services, and slowly gain Deeds of land ownership as they complete a Contract.

The "core" is surrounded by a metaphorical "growth ring" where surplus may be sold to the general public, and also to users in the core who did not perfectly predict the goods and services they would want.

But, since some profit must be used to ensure those new users gain Deeds of land ownership, the user-owned "core" will continue to grow as more land is purchased until, theoretically, all users on Earth might eventually own all the supply-chains required to ensure all the predictable production they need.

As the user-owned core grows, the growth-ring also grows, further increasing total profits produced by the system.  Notice, if the rate-of-growth is fast enough, the 7 year limitation on financial returns may be somewhat "hidden" by the sliding-window of new owners.

On the other hand, even if all users held sufficient ownership, profit will still happen whenever users do not perfectly predict the future production they want, such as for new inventions or just changes in taste.

Free Software

Similar to the GNU GPL requiring all users gain access to the immaterial Sources of production, this protocol requires all users to gain access to the material Sources of production, and especially land.

One way this is done, is by treating some % of profit as the payer's investment, causing property ownership of land and water and minerals and other finite assets to continuously flow to the users of that production, and, incidentally, also causes profit in the system to approach zero since all predicted products are no longer purchased late, from the regular market, but are instead "pre-allocated" to each user-owner as the Tickets they hold, and "backed by" the Deeds and Contracts required for that future production.

Worker Ownership

In a traditional "worker owned" business, each stage of production is co-owned by the people who operate those material Sources, while the users have no voice.  The intermediate product must be sold at each step in each supply-chain.

For example, the Farmer owns the Farm and sells grain to the Miller who owns the Mill, who then sells flour to the Baker who owns the Bakery who finally sells to the user.

User Ownership

In a "user owned" business, all steps in each supply-chain are co-owned by the people who will use (consume) that specific good or service.  The intermediate products and finish product are never sold because they have already been pre-allocated to the end users.

When material Sources are user-owned, the raw materials of those products are never sold as they move through the supply-chains because they are already owned by the users who will finally consume them.

Each individual future product is pre-allocated to each person holding each Ticket.

This safely eliminates profit for those in that group, for that product, because those co-owners have accepted the product itself as the natural return on investment.

The price they each pay as a user is simply the costs they already each paid as a co-owner, while profit is undefined because the product was never sold.
