The gaming industry is undergoing a significant transformation with the integration of blockchain technology, specifically through the utilization of Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs). This integration has paved the way for multichain gaming applications, enabling players to use NFTs owned on different blockchains within a single game. In this context, Wormhole Queries emerges as an essential piece of infrastructure for NFT game developers. This blog post aims to delve into the ways in which Wormhole Queries can empower NFT-based multichain games, with a focus on multichain NFT verification processes and the incorporation of multichain deposits for in-game currencies.

Empowering Multichain NFT Games with Wormhole Queries

Our new Queries solution offers a way to retrieve data using a 'pull' mechanism facilitated and secured by our Guardian network.

We discussed how Queries works with on-chain price feeds in our last blogpost here!

The Challenge:

In blockchain-based gaming, using NFTs or assets from one chain in a game hosted on another chain is a complex process. It often requires cumbersome workarounds and is slow and expensive due to on-chain transaction processing.

The Solution:

With Wormhole Queries, this is different! Wormhole Queries streamline the process, allowing gamers to prove ownership of an NFT on one chain (e.g., Polygon) to access features or play games on another (e.g., Arbitrum) with no need for a costly and slow on-chain transaction to read / push data.

Let's take a closer look at how this process works at a high level:

NFT Verification Process:

Ownership Proof Request: When a player wants to use an NFT from Polygon in a game on Arbitrum, the game sends an off-chain request to Wormhole's Guardian network.

Data Retrieval by Guardians: The Guardians verify the ownership of the NFT by querying the Polygon blockchain.

Verification and Access Granting: Once verified through the Guardian-maintained multisig, the game on Arbitrum grants the player access to use the NFT or unlock specific game features.

And thanks to Wormhole Queries, all of this happens at the speed of light and at minimal cost.

Additionally, during the game, players might need to continually verify ownership of different NFTs or assets for various game levels or perks. Queries can be continuously used to fulfill this purpose, keeping the user experience fast and seamless.

Adding Wormhole Queries Multichain Deposits on top

Recently, we discussed the use case of streamlined multichain deposits for multichain applications using the example for any PerpDEX. You can read about it here. The same concept can also be applied to the gaming use case we previously mentioned. Let's take a closer look.

Process Overview:

Players can deposit in-game currencies on one chain (e.g., Ethereum) and have them reflected in the game hosted on another chain (e.g., Arbitrum).

Wormhole Queries enable the verification of these deposits across chains, allowing the currency to be available for use in the game almost instantly.

This system greatly enhances the user experience by providing a seamless way to manage in-game finances without the typical challenges of cross-chain transfers.

Conclusion

Wormhole Queries can be used to enhance the user experience (UX) of NFT-based multichain applications. By enabling efficient and accurate verification of NFTs and in-game currency deposits across different blockchains, it unlocks a wide range of possibilities for game developers and players. This technology ensures a seamless UX while improving the gaming experience and paving the way for interconnected and versatile gaming ecosystems.

As a token of appreciation for reading all the way here, we have something for you🤫

nft://137/0x5F42cA77Fdd38868a58Bbc83619ca2b501f24a5c/?showBuying=true&showMeta=true

About Wormhole

Wormhole is the leading interoperability platform that powers multichain applications and bridges at scale.
