最近一直在玩魔方，接触到各种公式和不同的图案，一点点的退出恢复的时间，玩的不亦乐乎~

Angel Protocol is an application that allows donors to turn their contributions into perpetual charity endowments. They take your money, put it to work, and periodically give its yields to the cause of your choosing.

Over what period will those yields continually accrue for charity? Forever.

Your money can make more money for charity in perpetuity. And as its founders have said, this makes giving more sustainable.

The beauty of this initiative is that it does not just benefit charities and donors; it’s a godsend to LUNA holders as well. In this piece, I will demonstrate why this is so by going through the following questions:

How does the Angel Protocol create its perpetual charity endowments? Why would its use be beneficial to LUNA holders? What is its potential over a six-month runway and beyond? How it works

Through a simple interface, Angel Protocol will allow donors to pledge their dollars as UST to benefit a cause or charity. UST is an algorithmic stable coin, a cryptocurrency that is pegged to the dollar's value, which is created by buying and burning an equivalent amount of LUNA in the market.

Angel Protocol will be able to access Terra’s high-yield fixed interest savings protocol called Anchor with the use of UST. Powered by proof of stake assets, it promises a near 20% per annum yield on deposits.

This 20% yield is then periodically given to the donor’s choice of course or charity. Ideally, these one-time deposits can fund a charity’s operations forever.

Let’s go through a simplified example.

Suppose a generous individual pledges $110,000 to his local orphanage via Angel Protocol. The donor can tell the protocol to immediately credit $10,000 of his donation to the orphanage for use and pledge $100,000 as a perpetual charity endowment.

Angel Protocol then deposits his $100,000 to Anchor in the back end via smart contracts to earn a 20% yield. By the end of one year, the orphanage is given another $20,000. The year after that, it’s given another $20,000. Part of the yield would be kept in the endowment fund to grow the principal to produce more yield.

In six years, the orphanage would receive the entire initial donation and keep an increasing fund that would periodically earn them money in perpetuity.

This amplifies the effectiveness of anybody’s donation and addresses sustainability issues for charities. According to Angel Protocol’s chief operating officer, Duffy Casey:

"Right now, one of the biggest problems for all organizations is the lack of a runway of operating revenue. 2/3rds out of all non-profits are small, which means that their annual budget is under a million dollars. So they’re small organizations doing a lot of work. Within that group, 30% will have an operating budget of fewer than six months out. You have ten to twenty per cent of those organizations only have enough money in the bank for the next thirty days or less."

Angel Protocol addresses the problem of volatility of funding. With a fund that regularly works for the cause or charity, donees are less restricted by the seasonality of giving.

How LUNA holders benefit

Angel Protocol will facilitate an increase in the adoption of UST. To mint more UST to satisfy demand increases from donations, an equivalent dollar amount of LUNA has to be bought and burned. This leads to less supply, increasing the LUNA’s price — to the benefit of LUNA holders. A more thorough discussion of how Terra-Luna’s value capture system works can be found here.

But how much adoption are we talking about? Over a long enough time frame, I speculate several billions of dollars worth of adoption.

According to the Giving USA Foundation, total private giving in America amounted to over $470 billion in 2020. That amounts to about a billion dollars worth of donations done every day — Americans can be quite generous.

Can you imagine what would happen if some of those donations are funnelled by Angel Protocol?

As of this writing, the total amount of UST in circulation is around $2 billion. If Angel Protocol alone can capture just 2 days' worth of total American donations, UST adoption would increase by 100%. LUNA holders would be rewarded when it happens.

What’s even better is that the UST adoption that Angel would bring is sticky and not merely transient. This is because their entire mission is to collect donations as part of a perpetual endowment fund. People who choose to donate in such a fund essentially lock their principal as UST forever.

This means that a large majority of UST donated into the protocol will never be turned back into fiat, securing a higher floor price for the LUNA. So charities get funding, and UST gets sticky adoption — everybody wins.
