The Big Story

Crypto's Broadest Rally of 2026 Lifts 90% of Assets

The past seven days delivered one of the most comprehensive rallies crypto has seen this year, with roughly 90% of digital assets posting meaningful gains. About 280 of the top 300 cryptocurrencies by market cap rose over the period, while only around 20 declined. Nine tokens stood out by recording weekly gains of at least 40%, including XRP, PEPE, TRUMP, and PENGU. The breadth of the move signals a shift in market structure—not just a handful of narratives working, but capital flowing across the board. Pepecoin led the memecoin surge with a 60% jump in 24 hours and nearly 200% over 30 days.

Breaking News

Trump's World Liberty Wins OCC Bank Charter — The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency granted preliminary approval on August 14 for World Liberty Trust Company to operate as a national trust bank, linked to President Trump's crypto platform, and the move is now threatening to derail the CLARITY Act as lawmakers weigh competing regulatory pathways.

Wintermute Adds $45M to Short Book, Targets XRP and HYPE — Crypto market maker Wintermute has ramped up its short exposure on Hyperliquid to around $190.8 million, up from $146 million, with its largest position a $69 million bet against XRP.

LayerZero Pulls Support from 15 Low-Activity Chains — The cross-chain protocol is winding down offchain DVN and Executor services on 15 chains over the next 30 days as part of an operational cleanup targeting networks with minimal activity.

Phantom Wallet Drops Sui Support in 30 Days — Phantom announced on August 24 it will cut Sui from its network roster on September 24, just 20 months after adding it, citing a joint agreement with the Sui Foundation and leaving users one month to move assets.

Solana Cuts Slot Time to 350 Milliseconds

Solana reduced its mainnet slot time from 400 milliseconds to 350 milliseconds at the start of epoch 1020 on August 21, marking the first such change since the network launched. Slot time sets how often the leader validator rotates and drives the cadence of block production. The reduction means Solana's theoretical maximum throughput rises by roughly 14%, though real-world performance depends on network congestion and validator behavior. The change is part of a broader push toward faster execution as competing chains race to sub-second finality.

Lummis Accuses Banks of Blocking CLARITY Act

Senator Cynthia Lummis is accusing major banks of deliberately obstructing the CLARITY Act by conditioning their support on changes to the bill. The Digital Asset Market Clarity Act aims to resolve a central question in US crypto regulation: whether digital assets should be regulated primarily as securities under the SEC or commodities under the CFTC. Lummis claims banks are holding the legislation hostage, effectively blocking what would be the most significant federal framework for crypto markets to date.

Laser Digital Japan Breaks Four-Year Licensing Gap with SHIB and XRP

Laser Digital Japan, the Japanese subsidiary of Nomura's digital assets arm, has completed its registration as a Crypto Asset Exchange Service Provider under Japan's Payment Services Act. The approval is the first new registration of its kind in Japan in about four years, following a gap since 2022. The platform will offer custody and exchange services for six tokens, including Shiba Inu and XRP, marking a notable re-opening of Japan's licensing regime after years of regulatory stasis.

How Sei Network's Giga Upgrade Targets 200,000 TPS

Sei Network is rebuilding its blockchain from the ground up to hit 200,000 transactions per second with finality under 400 milliseconds. The project, called Giga, is not one upgrade but three separate ones working together: a new consensus layer, a parallel execution engine, and a storage rewrite. If successful, it would put Sei ahead of every major layer-1 in raw throughput and latency, positioning it as infrastructure for high-frequency onchain applications that current blockchains can't support.
