I wanted to share with you a new EP I just finished, called Dune Riders.
It’s a collection of five instrumental pieces, all built from the same seed: an old track called Scheherazade.

The original was just a small vignette for oud, zither, and flute exploring the A harmonic minor scale and this kind of Middle Eastern storytelling feeling. I didn’t know it at the time, but that little melody had more to say. So I started revisiting it, reworking it, and letting it evolve into new directions.

Over time, each remix turned into a kind of scene, a part of a larger journey. A caravan crossing a desert. A dance beneath the stars. A mirage. A lost oasis. A moment of silence under the midnight sky. That’s what Dune Riders became to me: a slow and cinematic travelogue through imagined landscapes.

I always felt there was more to discover in that mood, so I started playing with it. 

The result is a small sonic trip that follows an imaginary caravan crossing the desert. Dune Riders is a cinematic reworking that sets things in motion. Then comes Silken Veil, a sensual detour where the caravan stops and the night comes alive with dance and mystery. Mirage Unfolding brings in a sense of wonder, as if you’re chasing something shimmering on the horizon. Phantom Oasis is a space where you almost forget if the journey is real or imagined. Finally, it all slows down into Sands at Midnight, an ambient piece with a piano coda, like a quiet breath after the long ride.

I'd like to share something new with you: Beneath the Veil, a small collection of pieces that has been quietly taking shape over time, and it’s coming out on May 16th.

All the tracks on this EP come from the same source: A Glimmer of Hope, a piece I wrote back in 2019 for Moods and Modes Vol. II. I’ve always felt there was more to explore in that melody, more stories hiding in it, more emotional spaces it could open. So I followed it.

The result is a kind of journey. It begins with Beneath the Veil, a downtempo remix that digs into the dreamy, melancholic side of the theme. Then there’s Embers of Hope, both in an orchestral version and a sung one, which feels like walking through loss but still holding on to something warm. A Distant Glow moves us further, with soft piano passages and a slow build toward something brighter. And The Other Side is where it all settles: a quiet ambient track that lets the piano gently speak at the end.

These pieces are all reflections of the same feeling, refracted through different moods. Thanks for walking with me through it.

"Embers of Hope" follows, first as a purely orchestral piece, and then as a song with lyrics, a reminder that even in the darkest moments, hope never fully disappears. "A Distant Glow" carries us further, offering a glimpse of something brighter ahead, with a piano-led orchestral ballad that slowly builds toward an epic ending. Finally, "The Other Side" closes the EP with an ambient atmosphere, giving space for a simple piano theme to rise and guide us to the end of the journey.

If the original "Glimmer of Hope" was a single spark, "Beneath the Veil" is the exploration of everything that spark could become: the sadness, the resilience, the light breaking through.

I’ve got a new EP out, Lazy Days, and it’s all about slowing down. It started with Easy Goin’, a piece I wrote back in 2019, and somehow it grew into a full collection of songs exploring the idea of effortless, unhurried living. A little nostalgic, a little wistful: because honestly, I don’t know if life was ever as simple as we imagine. But we all deserve to take it easy sometimes.

Musically, it’s a mix of swing jazz, easy listening, downtempo, and even a bit of ambient and electro-swing. And for the first time ever, I’ve got vocals on a couple of tracks. It’s been fun working in this expanded EP remix format: I think I’ll do more of these in the upcoming months.

In times like these, where empathy and kindness seem in short supply, a little escapism isn’t the worst thing. Maybe Lazy Days can be a soundtrack to your own quiet moments, whenever you need them.

Sadly, my own life is anything but slow. Maybe that’s why I’m drawn to this kind of theme. There’s something nostalgic (almost utopian?) thinking about when we were young and we had time to spare or throw away. Did such a time ever exist? Anyway, we all deserve moments of ease, even if we have to carve them out ourselves.

Musically, the EP spans different moods. There’s swing jazz and easy listening, but also downtempo, ambient, and even an electro-swing track. It also marks a first for me: my first songs with vocals, featuring Clara Monroe. I’ve enjoyed working in this expanded EP format, and I plan to revisit other tracks from Moods and Modes Vol. II in the same way.

The world is a chaotic place. Sometimes, the simplest things (music, a quiet evening, a good conversation) can be a form of resistance. Lazy Days is my small tribute to that.

Dear friends, after five years in the making Moods and Modes Vol. V is finally complete. A sense of nostalgia (of what exactly, I’m still not sure) ties together the seven pieces, each a little trip through sound and sentiment.

At its core, the album is a study of the G major scale, explored through diverse styles ranging from jazz and ragtime to rock and minimalism. But beyond the theory, it’s a collection of stories and emotions. 

Some tracks are tales: ”Come Out and Play Again" was written in the wake of the Covid-19 lockdowns, longing for joy and human connection; "Rags to Riches" unfolds like a silent movie, a journey of sonic enrichment; "Let’s Walk and Talk" celebrates the importance of friendship and honest conversation. 

Others reflect human feelings: “Synesthesia" merges senses into sound, "Empathy" is a wordless tribute to the most needed human superpower, while "Serendipity" and "Sheer Luck" express gratitude for life’s unexpected gifts. You can find more insights on the website.

Though these pieces came to life at different times, they now come together as a unified chapter in the Moods and Modes series. Whether you're drawn to melody, harmony, or emotion, this album invites you to pause, reflect, and maybe even find a bit of your own story within its notes.

"Liquid Dreams" are the final deconstructions of my musical ideas. They first take form as acoustic "Moods and Modes" pieces, which are transformed into downtempo electronic "Remixes" (you'll find them linked in the main blog post) , and eventually mutate into short, dreamlike vignettes: the ambient soundscapes of "Liquid Dreams."

These pieces are very short, almost like musical snapshots. They’re built by taking samples from my remixes and completely mangling them—stretching, bending, and reimagining them into something entirely new. Each track is a tiny ambient world, just a minute long, a glimpse into a strange new place.

"Liquid Dreams" are available exclusively as NFTs on the Base network. Why NFTs? For me, it’s not just about releasing music in a new way; it’s about connecting directly with people who enjoy what I create. NFTs allow for a unique relationship between artist and collector, and that’s what excites me most. Five years ago I wrote a song called "Simple Dreams". Even if it was an heartfelt song, I found it a bit cheesy. Nevertheless, it was a favourite of my elder daughter.

"Blissful Serenade" is born out of a sample of "Simple Dreams". 5 years have gone by, my daughter is now studying abroad, and maybe that's why the serene atmosphere of the piece acquired a bit of a nostalgic tinge.

Like the preceding parts of the suite, the melodic themes of "From Dusk Till Dawn" are not born in isolation but "stolen" from previous songs. The "chilly evening" theme comes from "Autumn Sunset", while the central "sunrise" theme is borrowed from "Sunrise on Mars". These pieces are part of my ongoing project "Moods and Modes", a never-ending collection of short instrumentals in different genres. "Moods and Modes" serves as an open playground where I often get inspiration to remix, reshape, and recreate past melodies.

“Liquid Dreams” are small ambient sketches where every sound is derived from a single sample, manipulated and warped like dreams do with our awake memories.

To create “Liquid Dream No. 2” I took a short audio clip from "Oil and Water" and subjected it to a series of transformations and manipulations, obtaining a series of sounds belonging to the same sound space as the original piece but at the same time distorted and dreamlike.

There are some things of this first foray in onchain music (or what do you want to call it) that I really liked, some positive sensations that reignited the spark of creativity and the pleasure of sharing my music:

• the personal connection with the people that collected my works, and the new friends I made along the way. That’s so distant from the impersonal world of music streaming, and much more linked with the deep reason why I share my music (the hope that it could resonate in some way with the soul of a fellow human)

• the feeling of control on your cultural product: there are no middle men that impose formats, behaviours or correct ways to share: you can try (and maybe fail) on your own. And you can learn from your mistakes. What more could a man want?

So those are my conclusions but this is just the beginning. The Joy of Sailing Away is the first of a 3-part instrumental suite. Next step: Oil on Water !

The project

The purpose of “Moods and Modes” is to explore the feelings that the different musical scales and modes inspire (at least to me) by composing a collection of short instrumental tracks, in a variety of musical genres.

The pieces are collected in volumes of 6-7 songs each, released on Bandcamp and on every streaming site.

The short pieces are also intended to be used as source material for extensions, recombinations and contaminations. So they are often subject to remixes, both by myself and by musician friends, spinning side projects.

Volume I (2018)

“Moods and Modes vol. I” collects 6 pieces written in musical scales with less than 7 notes:

• For the Joy. Jump for the joy with this major pentatonic tune. Remix: The Joy of Sailing Away.

• Sail Away. Gently roll on a minor pentatonic boat. Remix: The Joy of Sailing Away.

• Geronimo. A hammond organ make the blues scale rock. Remix: Oil and Water.

• Marilyn. An electric piano makes the blues scale swing. Remix: Oil and Water.

• Sunrise on Mars. An alien synth salute the rising sun with a major pentascale tune. Remix: From Dusk Til Dawn.

• Autumn Sunset. A latin jazz mood inspired by a minor pentascale. Remix: From Dusk Til Dawn.

Volume II (2019)

“Moods and Modes vol. II” collects 6 pieces written in different flavors of the C major and A minor scales:

• Simple Dreams. A simple emotional sketch in C major. Remix: Blissful Serenade

• Serenidad. A serene latin dance in C major. Remix: Winterfolk

• Easy Goin’. A happy fiddle stroll in C major with a blue note. Remix: Lazy Days EP

• A Glimmer of Hope. A symphonic sketch in A minor. Remix: Beneath the Veil EP

• Scheherazade. An eastern vignette in A harmonic minor. Remix: Dune Riders EP

• Sound of Past Moments. Retro sounding rock in mixed minor mode.

Volume III (2019)

“Moods and Modes vol. III” collects 6 pieces written in D Dorian (one of my favorite modes) and F Lydian:

• Fanfare for a Jester. The renaissance flair of the Dorian mode

• Clouds on the Road. A minimalist piano piece in Dorian mode

• Door to Elsewhere. A jazz sketch in Dorian mode.

• Gentle Rain. A gentle ballad for winds in Dorian mode

• Liaisons Dangereuses. A soft waltz with a swing heart in Lydian mode

• Summer Sky. Ambient track in Lydian mode.

Volume IV (2020)

“Moods and Modes vol. IV” collects 6 pieces written in other modes without accidentals (well, mostly). The first 3 pieces are a short trip around the world, the other 3 a short trip inside a mind.

• Duende. A passionate piece with a spanish tinge in E Phrygyan

• Kurai Umi. A fantasy japanese trip along some dark waters in the Insen scale

• Ceilidh. A new take on a celtic jig in G mixolydian

• Changes. Subtle mood twists in B locrian

• Don’t Worry. A carefree swing track in C major blues

• No More Fears. A small rock anthem in A minor blues

Volume V (2025)

“Moods and Modes vol V” will explore the G major scale and the moods it suggests to me. Pieces released so far:

• Come Out and Play Again. A simple power pop ballad for complicated times

• Rags to Riches. A ragtime piece with a suspenceful twist

• Let’s Walk and Talk. An easy listening nostalgic piece

• Synesthesia. Dance to the sound of colors!

• Empathy. A cheesy pop song about caring for each others, in G Harmonic Major

• Serendipity. Happy surprises in troubled times, in G major and F lydian

• Sheer Luck. A laid-back jazz piece that flows effortlessly, much like the unexpected moments of fortune in life. 

Digital collectibles

All the tracks of the project will eventually be released as NFTs and find their permanent home on the blockchain. These are the different releases that will spin from the project:

• Every “Moods and Modes” piece will eventually be remastered and “eternalised” as 1of1 digital vinyl on Ethereum

• Every remix will be released as a limited edition on Base and the revenue will be used to remaster and publish the original songs.

• “Liquid Dreams” are small improvisations inspired by the remixed pieces released exclusively on chain. This may be the easiest point of entry to my digital collectibles. "Dreamers" collectors will have access to music airdrops and to a dedicated space to help shaping the project (a dedicated channel in my discord server).
