The forested/wilderness area of Ontario is 70.5 million hectares. Texas is about 69.5 million.
So picture Texas, but trees. Now picture Texas temperatures (with no rain as well) and all those trees. Almost all tinder dry softwood.
Anybody that has ever burnt a Christmas tree knows how that goes. These fires, while big from current standards, will be the norm. The average for a while.
There are 10s of millions of people under an extreme high hazard air quality alert right now.
What happens when the fires get even larger?
is it humanities destiny to live in-doors; in manufactured environments? We won’t need rockets to take us to Mars, we will be Mars.
There are 200 forest fires in Ontario right now. It’s kind of incomprehensible about the size of the forest in Northern Ontario. These fires can get so much worse still.
First Nations communities are being forced from their homes and many will not have a home to return to. While people are in awe about the color of the sky, or get a bit of a sore throat from breathing the smoke, think of them please.
I was just watching a few old episodes of Friends. They would never be able to make a show like that again because it wouldn’t make any sense. People don’t hang around with each other like that anymore. The central perk would be just a bunch of people on laptops and buried in cell phones.
