The Paralympics are a profound display of the power of the human spirit.
A completely blind person can ski the slalom. Players with no legs can play hockey on 'scooters' better than we could on skates. Humans with all kinds of disabilities can not only overcome them but also master a skill and achieve more than most of us combined.
Makes me think about what I battle and don't overcome in my cushy American life.
Makes me think about what we 'battle' here--red markets and projects closing--and we end up bickering and giving up instead of building something better in the next chapter.
Today, I'm reminded there's more power in the human spirit than we are displaying, thanks to some true athletes in Milan-Cortina.
The demise of projects and mini apps seems to be contagious and spreading throughout Farcaster like a cold through an elementary school.
Let's also recognize that there is pervasive surviving & thriving of apps that simply don't get a special announcement.
@betrmint - supporting creators & building community
@gmfarcaster - enough said
@word-a-day - taking the timeline by storm
BETR with @burr.eth - starting to carve out a space
@qrcoindotfun - keeping attention alive in the bear
/glanker - shoutout @diviflyy & @yerbearserker@sopha - curating the great stuff
and many others...shoutout to the builders that are thriving!
Many great TV comedies feature a character focused on minutiae and rules they think everyone should live by. They do this because it mirrors the characters in our lives.
* Sheldon Cooper's (Big Bang Theory) rigid scheduling requirements or 50 page roommate agreement
* Niles Crane (Frasier) with his refined etiquette and propensity to correct everyone's grammar
* Cliff Claven (Cheers) with his far flung stories and inane trivia
Not to mention Monica Gellar (Friends) or Angela Martin (The Office) and many others...
Some of the greatest characters in TV history are the most pedantic and that's because it mirrors the people we live with every day ... or maybe even us!
It might be a bit of an obscure market for Polymarket, but there really should be a prediction market on how long it will take for me to recover & correctly use the bookmark action without hitting 'ask neynar' first.
I have a feeling I'm in the upper tier of using Farcaster bookmarks, and putting 'ask neynar' in the place of 'bookmark' is a big blow to my muscle memory. 😆 🤷♂️
USA Baseball losing 5-0 to Italy
Ravens nix Crosby trade after physical
Bam Adebayo second highest points ever 83.
What a night in sports. What do you think @bracky ?
Times have changed, and so has what saps our energy and weakens us for our duties...
Julius Caesar said, "Wine and other luxuries have a tendency to enervate the mind & make men less brave in battle", and Thoreau asked, "What is the nature of the luxury which enervates & destroys nations?
Now, binge-watching a reality show and too many TikTok videos enervate us and require calling in sick from a remote workday. 🤷♂️
While things have slowed down here of Farcaster, I find myself checking the Word A Day mini app with alacrity at 8 PM EST every day.
And I've noticed I'm not alone. I saw a cast yesterday with someone saying they were frustrated that Daylight Savings delayed the release of the new word by 1 hour. That's the kind of eagerness that @adrienne has created in her 'worders.'
@breadmilkbutter ... your boy did great! He's moving on! Were you pictured in the intro when they showed the family photos?
Awesome guy to root for on American Idol folks.
29 Seconds of Farcaster ... What did you miss this weekend?
Not a whole lot to be honest, but a couple things of note:
* Nice to see all the expressed appreciation for the women of Farcaster on International Women's Day, yesterday. You all make this place extra special 💐
* BRACKY is officially shut down and done, as was expected
* @nounishprof released /fccomics #2 & #3, including this gem featuring @bertwurst.eth and @bracky (how cute are these two?) https://farcaster.xyz/nounishprof/0xc1770b20
* @ccarella shared some sage wisdom on learning AI that is worth your time https://farcaster.xyz/ccarella/0x4a42e187
* On that note, @nickysap released a resource to keep up with AI news and development https://farcaster.xyz/nickysap/0x28ed9c61
* I'm assuming there is no /gmfarcaster today as @adrienne was partying with University of Wisconsin sorority girls all weekend and @nounishprof was traveling. They'll probably be back Tuesday, I'm guessing to catch you up.
I spent a bit too long this evening thinking about how to use the word ameliorate in a cast.
I didn't want to fall into the trap of using such a formal word in a casual setting--talking about ameliorating the effects of the crypto bear market or falling coin prices.
I didn't want to fall into the trap of writing a cast with suitable use by talking about ameliorating hunger, poverty, or war on Farcaster and sounding like a bambiesque pageant contestant in the final round of Miss America.
So, rather than contribute to a flurry of casts that just slightly miss the mark on the Word of the Day, I decided to improve the timeline by simply taking you through my thought process and mitigate any possible negative effects to such a great mini app.
And to all a good night...
It's nice to see @jacy atop the leaderboard, as she writes the most natural and organic casts for Word of the Day.
But I would be remiss if I didn't mention that she also benefitted from a fortuitous break in @bertwurst.eth going on a road trip and not getting an entry in today.
An overlooked trait of @bracky was his handling of chaos
A market opens with a flurry of requests
@sgniwder asking for updates in yet another commentator's voice
A pivotal moment where everyone sells one & buys the other
@bertwurst.eth holding another bot roundtable
Endless price requests before in-app pricing
100s of pings when he was down for a nap
pouring one out 🍺 for @bracky a model of equanimity
How can any of us expect to relegate Bert to a new position on the Word A Day leaderboard if he is going to keep coming up with mesmerizing narratives like this every day?
My favorites for yesterday's Word of the Day were @bertwurst.eth and @jacy and they were #1 and #3 on the leaderboard. 🎉 🎈
But I must say a mere 11/15 for my use of prolific seems comparatively arbitrary and capricious .
I forgot to include @betrmint v3 Infinite Rounds starts today! 🤦
My apologies, and thanks @pramadan.eth for the reminder.
I did add it to the /gmfarcaster newsletter version that goes to hundreds of FCers.
