this rose garden in PDX was lit. a few highlights: - roses - other people smelling roses - thinking about how many people smelled the same rose - people posing for selfies - a quinceañera photo shoot - a group of teens playing an intense game of hide and seek - two women lying on a blanket reading children’s stories aloud to one another - a man with a full tray of homemade cupcakes, unfrosted, hiding among one of the rows; he was not selling them - a late-teen directing her mom on how to get the best shots of her (“I’ve thought about every angle, mom”); senior year photos (?) - a single plastic head for practicing hairstyles—with three braids sticking straight out—perched on the edge of the garden’s very euro fountain - old people smelling roses and then sitting on the stone benches to rest - a tía pulling along a roller bag, most likely full of outfit changes for the quinceañera photo shoot
