People sometimes ask me what the Daughter’s of the American Revolution actually do. Well, we do a lot, but it’s all centered around education, historical preservation, and patriotism. Today we made pressed flower bookmarks to go to a local VA hospital along with books from a book drive we held. We also wrote inspiration notes to hide in the pages, which was really fun. I imagine someone reading a thrilling page turner and finding a little note of support.

I get excited everytime someone is going to cook. I’m either getting great photos of something delicious or a cool new Farcaster experiment to play with.

So I’m at a DAR weekend meeting and it was 7:30 PM and everyone said they were going to bed and I thought they were joking and they are actually going to bed and I’ve never felt so old and so young at the same time.

I am no longer a cyborg and was given a lot of homework to do and think about while we wait for insurance approvals for a permanent occipital nerve stimulator. I thought I was being whiny but now I see why I was so sore! Everything past the black stitches was under my scalp so a large needle was there a week ago to feed those wires into me. Of course I was super sore! But I did like the stimulator. And I get to wash my hair soon. And I got a cinnamon roll as a treat. Winning.

24 hours left of being a cyborg and I’m done done done with having wires sticking out of my head. I can’t go near water so it’s been sponge baths for a week and I really want to wash my hair. I was hoping my head would stop being sore from the implanting but it’s not so I’ve spent the last few hours trying to separate that pain for the normal pain and it’s more difficult than anticipated. My journal is quite whiny, but honest. It’s been hard to sleep and sit in any chairs with backs. I’ve tried to catch up on reading. I’m not allowed to BLT (bend, lift, or twist) and I can’t lift anything more than a pound which is literally all the things. I’m even drinking out of to go coffee cups because a mug plus coffee is a pound and an ounce. :/ is my expression for the entire journey. I’m still interested in the permanent options, but I shouldn’t have looked up the YouTube videos because I have more questions now.

One of my friends just sent out her weekly newsletter. But I just read it Friday. Today she said that she floated an idea and got zero feedback. So she’s taking a break from writing, from all social media, and going to spend August reflecting on what she wants to do next. She’s looking for more paid work and less giving things away for free. It sounded familiar. I feel like I’ve read that email hundreds of times over the last few months. Maybe we are all feeling something similar. Maybe it’s just summer time. Maybe it’s time to touch more grass.

So I knew @tldr knew a lot about the Odyssey, but I didn’t know he translated it from the actual Ancient Greek which he not only reads but wrote a dissertation about! So maybe add this episode to your queue after the movie. It’s like getting an expert podcast breaking down some stuff in the film that you may not have noticed but will click if you watch this soon after you saw it.

Saw “The Odyssey” in IMAX at a late show and have no regrets even though it got out at 1:40 AM. I brought my Loop concert earplugs because I heard it was LOUD and it was and I’m glad I had them. Worth seeing in IMAX for sure. We were shocked that the Tuesday night IMAX price was so much cheaper than normal. Theater was packed. We tried to see it Monday but the theater had a power outage. Was able to get popcorn and an ICEE for the same price as the Monday ticket price so it felt like a win. I have feelings about the cast but probably not for the same reasons as most of the internet. I didn’t like seeing some actors I like playing bad guys. I wanted more of some characters because they were awesome and didn’t get enough screen time. I did not like knowing almost all of the main cast. It was a bit distracting. Did not like thinking of Anne Hathaway as Tom Holland’s mom. Makes me feel old.

Let’s learn about why we hate losing. Will take notes.

I couldn’t find a plaque. I didn’t know if this was an installation or if the flags just fell down but I thought it was beautiful either way.

This artist’s hands fascinated me. She worked so quickly and made it look so easy. That’s how I know her skills were unmatched. Her hands moved so fast they were a blur at times but I was captivated.
