The co-founder of Ethereum, Vitalik Buterin, met with Edi Rama, the prime minister of Albania, in 2017 to discuss the potential uses of blockchain technology in Albania. Additionally, Mr. Rama travelled to Malta for the Blockchain Summit, where he gave a speech urging blockchain businesses to locate in Albania.

The Albanian government has also taken action to create a favourable climate for blockchain and cryptocurrency firms. Albania made it obvious to the blockchain industry that it was open for business when the country's legislature passed a law in 2018 recognising cryptocurrencies as legal tender.
