The "Yield-Arbitrage" Stablecoin Standard
Subtitle: Solving the Rebase Paradox via Incentivized Solvency Windows
1. Abstract
Current yield-bearing stablecoins face a critical dilemma: they either hoard yield from users (USDC/USDT) or they break DeFi compatibility through rebasing mechanisms (stETH/Ampleforth). This paper proposes a new arbitrage controller that distributes treasury yield to holders not through inflation, but through a Discounted Minting Window. This ensures the token remains a standard ERC-20 asset (fully compatible with Curve/Uniswap/Aave) while offering users a reliable, profit-driven incentive to maintain the peg.
2. The Problem
The stablecoin market is currently divided into two flawed models:
The "Greedy" Model (Centralized): Issuers like Tether and Circle earn ~5% APY on user deposits (billions in revenue) and share 0% with the users.
The "Broken" Model (Rebasing): Protocols like Mountain Protocol or Ampleforth pass yield to users by automatically increasing wallet balances. This causes "accounting errors" in Automated Market Makers (AMMs) like Curve and Uniswap, requiring complex "wrapping" solutions that fragment liquidity.
The Market Gap: There is no stablecoin that passes Treasury yield to users and behaves like a standard, static token in DeFi applications.
3. The Solution: The "Discount Window" Mechanism
We introduce a mechanism that externalizes the yield distribution. Instead of the protocol mathematically forcing the price, we use Game Theory to let the market do it.
Standard Behavior: The token frxUSD is a standard non-rebasing ERC-20. 1 token = 1 token. It never changes in your wallet.
The Yield Engine: 100% of backing assets are held in short-term US Treasury Bills (yielding ~5%).
The Payout: Yield is not paid via inflation. It is paid via Arbitrage Opportunities accessible via the Sovereign Arb Dashboard.
4. How It Works (The Loop)
The system relies on a 3-step cycle triggered by natural market demand:
The Premium (Drift): As demand for the token grows, the price on Curve/Uniswap naturally drifts above peg (e.g., to $1.02).
The Window (Distribution): The protocol detects this premium. It opens a "Discount Window" for a limited time.
Rule: Any user depositing qualified collateral (USDC/RWA) can access this window.
Action: Users can mint new frxUSD at exactly $1.00 using USDC/Cash.
The Arbitrage (Correction):
Holders buy at $1.00.
Holders immediately sell on Curve/Uniswap at $1.02.
Result: The holder pockets the $0.02 profit (the yield). The selling pressure forces the price back to $1.00 (the stability).
5. Visualizing the Flow
Treasury earns 5% Interest \rightarrow Vault Value grows (Over-collateralized).
Market Price hits $1.02 \rightarrow Protocol unlocks Minting at $1.00.
Traders Buy at $1.00 \rightarrow Sell on Curve/Uniswap at $1.02 \rightarrow Keep Profit.
Protocol receives $1.00 cash \rightarrow Buys more Treasuries \rightarrow Cycle Repeats.
6. Competitive Advantages
Features | USDC/USDT | Rebase Tokens stETH/USDM | Our Model (frxUSD) |
User Yield | 0% | 5% | ~5% (via Arb) |
Uniswap Compatible? | Yes | No (requires wrapping) | Yes (Native) |
Lending Compatible? | Yes | No (liquidation risks) | Yes |
Peg Stability | Centralized | Algorithmic | Incentivized |
7. Solvency & Safety
Unlike "Algorithmic" stablecoins (like Terra/Luna), this system is 100% Backed.
The Protocol never mints a token without receiving $1.00 in collateral.
When the Discount Window opens, the protocol trades 1 Token for $1 Cash.
The Reserve Ratio never drops below 1:1.
8. Conclusion
frxUSD represents the next evolution of on-chain money. It creates a symbiotic relationship: the Protocol gets liquidity, and the Users get the profit. By treating "Yield" as a tradeable action rather than a passive drip, we solve the DeFi compatibility issues that have held back the industry for years.
