Despite the unwillingness I worked 12 hours. Cancelled my yoga class and eye doctor appointment. I thought I’m taking care of myself, but I just can’t stand seeing my tasks piling up and overdue.
Should I have a “Semi-Holiday”?
Recently my genius colleague invented a “semi holiday” thingy. She’s travelling to Europe and claims she will work remotely and occasionally take some holidays. And she will be doing this for 2 months. What a perfect use of our unlimited PTO policy!
I think it started from the other genius colleague who went to the states for a road trip and work 3 days a week for 3 weeks then take a week off. He also claims he will be working on the road but sometimes it’s just hard to reach him. Even during the 3 days workweek, his working hours are strange. We have this flexibility because some team members are geographically distributed, so we can make our own working hours. So he just works for a while here and there. Tragic to collab.
And before him, another less genius colleague ask for 2 months off, but the co-founders said it’s too much unless he doesn’t get paid, and he agreed. He used this time to apply for a Uniswap grant and he got it, so he extends his unpaid holiday for another 3 months. He could’ve kept working and taken a lot of paid holidays (it’s unlimited anyway) to work on his Uniswap grant project, but he’s too honest. And others colleagues learn from this mistake.
This is how things evolve. I’m not sure how it will turn out to be for the girl touring Europe. But now one of the designers I manage who got onboard couple months ago said she wants to travel to Asia for a month, too.
Funny thing is she gave me her schedule. Well, she’s taking 2 days off at first, then working part-time for a couple weeks, then taking a week off. How graceful and he learns so fast! I’m not sure if this will be the maximum use of the PTO, we’ll see.
I mean, it’s a full-time job, not a working holiday in Canada. While I’m bitter about their advantage-taking tactic I’m feeling sad about myself. Why can’t I do the same? I talked about quiet quitting for 2 days and I’m back to being a corporate slave.
Are you working in web3? It’s bear now so time for you to have a semi holiday! If your boss fire you you just go on Twitter bitter about the company to make the token price down.
