Deckard on?
You may have seen the film, but never read the book ‘Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?’ by Philip K. Dick.
I find the book has more ideas, and more paranoia…. but both keep on surfacing in our collective consciousness facing a new era — the real, and the unreal. Recently, a new VR headset from Valve has been named ‘Deckard’.
A good way to explore the original book's themes and elements on your screens, is via this ‘Aidventure’ that stays close to the book of Blade Runner. It’s a narrative adventure for your LLM chat session that you can explore dynamically.
It’s been made with Google Gemini Pro 2.5 , as a personal project here in 2025, and homage to one of my favourite books...
What is an ‘Aidventure’…?
Basically, it’s a text adventure game x AI, but it’s also well-crafted, that has a ‘game state’ you can save or load in, tracking all your activities and gives the LLM (Games Master) a chat-by-chat update of your progress through the game, your stats, inventory etc, which directly informs the options you are presented with, your situation, and your unique adventure.
You can meta commands like THINK (a first person monologue in your current scene), and also enter any command you wish, and discuss meaningfully with NPCs and your favourite characters…
A lore section within the prompt gives the AI a reference from which to draw and color the world you are in.
Hence… ‘living book’… all generated in, say, the noir, dystopian style of writing…
You can start a new chat (or game) via the GEM / GPT (a good idea to also ‘Pin’ the conversation to your side menu) and if you keep that session open, you can play a very long game and see the AI track nearly all your activities.
(There are certain limits, but saving and loading the state after about 20 turns can provide extra protection against AI overlooking anything).
‘Blade Runner: The Electric Dream’ also checks a timestamp every turn, meaning that later in the game, characters will age according to their trajectory, and if you check back into the conversation in 5–10 years, you can see their development….

Can you hunt down the missing replicants? But just as importantly, can you hold it together…?
