Last week, I had the incredible opportunity to meet with the TOPS SCHOOL team at National Louis University (NLU). This meeting was part of the Science Core Heuristics for Open Science Outcomes in Learning (SCHOOL) project, which is a key component of the NASA Transform to Open Science (TOPS) Training initiative.
Our team is made up of developers, scientists, educators, and subject matter experts (SMEs), all working collaboratively to create online learning modules that showcase the data science lifecycle within NASA Earth Science Applied Sciences Program areas. These modules aim to make the world of Earth Science data accessible and engaging, emphasizing open science principles.
The meeting was both productive and inspiring. Here’s a snapshot of what we discussed:
Project Updates: Sharing progress on current tasks and learning modules.
Brainstorming: Generating innovative ideas to improve the modules and make them even more impactful.
Future Plans: Outlining steps for the next stages of the project, ensuring a clear vision for our goals.
The atmosphere during the meeting was truly energizing. It’s amazing how much can be achieved when a team comes together with a shared purpose.
The SCHOOL project exemplifies the principles of open science by integrating collaboration, transparency, and accessibility into every step. Through these learning modules, we aim to:
Demonstrate the data science lifecycle, from raw data to insights.
Showcase the importance of FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable).
Engage learners with real-world applications of Earth Science data.
Are you passionate about open science, data science, or NASA’s Earth Science initiatives? We’re always looking for enthusiastic individuals to contribute to our mission. Whether you’re a developer, scientist, educator, or just curious to learn more, we welcome your participation in shaping the future of open science. Reach out and become part of our collaborative journey!
