The analysis above represents the top ten Investment DAOs, their Pros and Cons as well as their entry fee. When looking for an Investment DAO to join it is important to ask yourself the following questions:
What kind of value you want to provide for that DAO?
In what capacity am I able to provide this value?
What are my expectations when joining an Investment DAO?
How big is this DAO? Will my contribution be significant?
How much money am I willing to invest to join a DAO?
After carefully thinking about these questions, I have applied this framework to organize my selection based on the value I can provide and the value I want to get:
What kind of value you want to provide for that DAO?
Market Research - Market Reports
Diligence work - Token writeups
Thesis Creation - Investment Thesis writing
Article writing
Connections to my personal network: University entrepreneurship, Republic VFA, Dorm Room Fund, GenZ VCs
In what capacity am I able to provide this value?
Given I’m a full time student, I will be able to provide this value in a part-time capacity. Ideally at or below 10 hours per week.
What are my expectations when joining an Investment DAO?
Growing my network
Getting hands-on experience talking to founders, discussing deals and evaluating opportunities
Getting access to select deal flow
Earning for my contributions, if possible
Will my contribution be significant?
Given the type of contribution I’m able to offer, I need to look for smaller DAOs where my contributions have a larger impact on investment decisions.
How much money am I willing to invest to join a DAO?
Given I am a college student, I am willing to spend at most $150 on joining an Investment DAO
Below you’ll see my top 2 Investment DAOs to join and the rationale behind this selection:
Entry Fee: Depends on Membership Tier. Allows me to start with 0$ for Verified membership, and 100$ for Pioneer Membership. Application Process: None, just need to join the Discord (Verified) or hold 100 $GCR tokens (Pioneer)
Number of Members: 742 Reasoning:
Access to Deal Flow: For any deal flow presented to the GCR community, every member has a choice to invest.
They can decide to invest if they want to, or pass. This is very different from the ‘pooling capital’ approach most Investment DAOs take. This means each member has the chance to invest in each deal individually. Process outlined here (https://globalcoinresearch.com/faq/#:~:text=You will need 100 %24GCR to join.)
Valuable Network: The GCR Community is comprised of: Angels, VCs, technologists, executives in the crypto space
Big Contributions: Small number of members maximizes contribution potential. The community is not too big.
Entry Fee: This community is free to join and has no application process! Can invest 100$ to gain access to more interaction with GCR.
Earning Potential: Writers and contributors are incentivized by earning $GCR tokens → GCR Media Mining. This is the most compelling value proposition for me as an aspiring Venture Analyst, since it helps me get exposure as a thought proponent and it helps me earn extra tokens on the side!
Entry Fee: Unclear Application Process: Submission of Google Form
Number of Members: 410 Reasoning:
Alliance DAO is one of the premier incubation DAOs in the space.
They have a small number of members, which maximizes contribution and exposure potential as a member.
Alliance DAO has a remarkable portfolio of alumni protocols such as DyDx, 0x, Synthetix, Paraswap.
Alliance DAO has partnerships with key players in the L1 space: Polkadot, Polygon, Arbitrum, Solana, Filecoin, Chainlink, Avalanche, etc.
Finally, Alliance DAO is boasting a strong mentor network including Anatoly Yakovenko (Founder, Solana), Sandeep Nailwal (COO, Polygon), Stani Kulechov (Founder, Aave), Daniel Robinson (Head of Research, Paradigm)
Their 9-week accelerator program and member-only dealflow is a strong value proposition for me to join as a Venture Analyst, since having access to proprietary deal flow is an important requirement for up and coming venture analysts.
As an aspiring Venture Analyst, the value of the Alliance DAO dealflow, network and the prestige associated with being a member of this DAO is a very compelling value proposition.
Following this framework has really helped me clarifying my expectations and the commitments I am willing to make as a DAO member.
Deciding to what DAO to join is a big step! I sincerely hope this article helps guide you inform such an important decision!
