Before transformation

Spring to Bohai Bay. A few days ago, the reporter drove all the way to see, drove to the Central Avenue near the Yongding New River, looked to the right, and a beautiful scene close to the sea was displayed in front of him - groups of red headed gulls sometimes spread their wings and sometimes skimmed over the water; In the South Causeway park by the sea, tourists who go on an outing and watch the sea are in twos and threes, and a long coastal trail extends into the distance close to the coastline.
On the wharf of Bohai monitoring base, which is 4 kilometers away from Nandi trail Park, two white marine surveillance ships are ready to go. As the tide height approaches 3 meters, the ship slowly leaves the wharf and begins its daily “cruise”.
Tianjin Marine Supervision Corps undertakes the task of Coastal Law Enforcement patrol in our city. Ma Yanwei, the leader of the marine environment law enforcement detachment, goes out with the Marine Supervision ship once or twice a month. Since he transferred from the army to Tianjin in 2013, he has been working in the post of Marine Supervision and witnessed the changes of Tianjin coastline.
“Traditionally, Tianjin has a coastline of 153 kilometers, from Jianhe area in the north to beipaihe area in the south. In the past, it was difficult for citizens to get close to the sea because it was mainly silty and muddy beaches. I remember that at the beginning of the inspection, the coastline was Earth dikes and old sea barriers, with low moisture-proof standards, and one foot of mud after a few steps. Our inspection equipment is only cameras and cameras. Today’s coastline is so beautiful. After protection, restoration and comprehensive transformation, the ecological environment has been improved Well, there are more tourists close to the sea. “ Ma Yanwei said.
“The Marine Surveillance patrol is divided into two routes: onshore and offshore. Now the onshore driving patrol goes back and forth on the same day and completes a round of full coverage of the coastline from south to North every half month. The Marine Patrol is divided by the main channel of Tianjin port. The marine surveillance ships are sent to patrol the waters near the north and south sides every week, and each patrol stays at sea for at least two or three days.” Ma Yanwei introduced that in recent years, with the strengthening of law enforcement and the iron fist governance of the sea, the order of sea use in Tianjin has become more and more standardized. The sea is clear along the Bay and beautiful beaches, and the effect of shoreline protection is very obvious.
The change of Tianjin coastline has witnessed the breadth and intensity of China’s marine ecological protection and restoration since the 18th CPC National Congress. In 2015, the Fifth Plenary Session of the 18th CPC Central Committee proposed to “carry out the blue bay remediation action”. Subsequently, the rectification action was listed as a major marine project in the outline of the 13th five year plan. In recent years, Tianjin has vigorously carried out the comprehensive treatment of the Bohai Sea and the protection and restoration of the coastline, which has significantly improved the natural ecological landscape of the coastline. At the same time, it has strictly adhered to the red line of marine ecological protection and stopped the approval of new reclamation projects.
“From 2018 to 2020, Tianjin comprehensively carried out the comprehensive renovation of coastlines and beaches, with a coastal wetland restoration area of 531.87 hectares and a coastline of 4.78 kilometers. The 12 rivers entering the sea were improved from ‘all bad’ in 2017 to ‘all bad’ in 2020. The proportion of good water quality in coastal waters reached 70.4%, 53.8 percentage points higher than that in 2017, with the greatest improvement among the three provinces and cities around the Bohai Sea.” Liu Li, deputy director of the sea area department of the Municipal Bureau of planning and resources, said. Today, the coastal wetland has abundant water systems, restored vegetation, and attracted a significant increase in the species and number of birds and rare birds. Tianjin’s coastline has become a well-known network red punch in place and a pro sea ecological corridor for tourists from Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei. It has both the name of being close to the sea and the reality of being close to the sea, realizing the harmonious coexistence between man and the sea.
At the parting of the interview, Ma Yanwei took the reporter to the monitoring room of the sea drift garbage prediction system located in the Marine Supervision Corps. The large screen shows the real-time high-definition monitoring pictures of 30 key coastal areas. “This is the monitoring platform of the sea floating garbage prediction system built by us in conjunction with multiple departments. At present, the layout of the basic points has been completed, and the design of the prediction model will be completed by the end of May. In the future, we should not only patrol the existing environmental problems, but also predict the possible points of sea floating garbage according to the changes of ocean currents and tides, so as to provide a basis for decision-making and management.” Ma Yanwei said.
