The city DAO, ATX DAO, facilitated the transformation of local artists' works into NFTs. With sponsorship from Culture on AVAX from the Avalanche Blockchain, the DAO guided Austin's artists into Web3, minted their artworks, compensated them, and exhibited their pieces in a metaverse gallery.
In late 2023, ATX DAO selected 19 local artists from an open call for the Austin Artist Residency program, encompassing a diverse array of multimedia art forms ranging from painting, mural art, photography, videography, to contemporary AI art, and musicians.
Over the span of a month, the DAO acquainted the artists with cryptocurrency and instructed them on uploading their artworks to the blockchain. Each artist was paired with an ATX DAO member who offered support and guidance throughout the process.

To introduce the artists to Web3, Austin's city DAO organized two in-person workshops and matched each artist with a mentor from ATX DAO. The entire program was curated and led by DAO members who volunteered to enrich Austin's art community.
Upon completing the workshops, each artist crafted a unique NFT, minted it on the Avalanche blockchain, and received compensation. All the artworks are now housed and displayed in the ATX DAO metaverse gallery.

The successful conclusion of the program was celebrated through an immersive art and live music event held at the partner venue, dadaLab. The event featured projections and multiple screens showcasing the NFTs.
The goal of this initiative was to support local artists in digitizing their artworks on the blockchain. This program became feasible through partnerships with ATX DAO, Culture on Avax, Co-Lab Projects, and dadageek.
