Hui Ruoqi is the Olympic champion of Chinese women’s volleyball team and the initiator of “Hui fund”. During the career of athletes, they will do public welfare by making small donations every month; After her retirement, she took public welfare as the direction of her efforts. She said that I would continue to contribute to China’s sports and public welfare undertakings as a “sports public welfare person”.
Sina commonweal: how to combine sports and commonweal?
Hui Ruoqi: sports has brought me a lot of things. It not only brings me a different life, but also brings me a lot of honor. It brings me a lot of things I can’t learn in class when I grow up. These things have brought me. I wonder if it can also be brought to others. In this process, I think physical education is a very important part, and then a very good educational method, so that everyone can lay a very good foundation in their own growth stage.
In the past, volleyball was my productivity and my output. In the future, what kind of output can I have and what kind of productivity can I have, that is, how the length of my life can give me enough width, which may be what I want to pursue now, so I think public welfare is a very meaningful thing.
Sina commonweal: as a public figure, what opportunities and challenges will you encounter in doing commonweal?
Hui Ruoqi: the advantage is that you can get in touch with more people, you have more opportunities and more choices. Although I may be a little white of public welfare, the things analyzed by experts on this road are more thorough or professional. You will always gain in the process of communicating with these people, so I think this is also a process of accelerating your growth. Then I am very happy to participate in such activities. In fact, there will be different ideas in each argument, because the more occasions you encounter, one is to refine your own plan, the other is to innovate and purify your ideas, and so on.
In bad places, people may think it’s easy for you to do things, but that’s not the case. There are many things that no one can eat into a fat man in one bite. Maybe you look at a particularly insignificant thing, and finally you can give you a very big or maybe not, that is, a very specific presentation. Still starting from small things, or laying a solid foundation.
Sina commonweal: what is your public welfare roadmap?
Hui Ruoqi: in a shaping period of life, I set a shape first, and then set a height. I don’t know if it (public welfare) will have a height after it, or even it may not have a height. It’s a silent thing. I think it’s a very stable or very determined thing at the bottom of my heart.
Then in this process, it may prompt me to have a new direction, that is, I want to do this public welfare, and how can I make it sustainable. I can’t go out for alms every day. How can I generate new value and attract more resources to make this public welfare longer or greater.
When I was an athlete, I just wanted to do it out of kindness. Slowly, the question is where is its sustainability? That may give me a new topic, how do I give it different value, how can it be sustainable, whether I should need a stable income or what kind of business support, so as to feed back to my public welfare. Maybe in the future, this is a new direction of my efforts.
Sina commonweal: what changes does commonweal bring to you?
Hui Ruoqi: for example, in the past, you thought you played on the court, which was very simple, concrete and focused. Later, when you went to the society to do public welfare, you will find that what is very important is that you have become a public figure now. What is important about your external output? You have a group of fans and a group of people who can influence. You often take a magnifying glass to see a lot of things you do, What kind of output do you give them.
And maybe many students who like you are in school, and they are also in a growing period. As a public figure, I think it is very important to give him what kind of output you can give, especially as a sportsman, that is, you can output a lot of positive things.
And even in the future, I hope more sportsmen and athletes can shoulder more social responsibility. I think athletes have inherent advantages. First, it is a very positive group, and then it can cover a lot of people. Moreover, these people are generally more young people. While they like watching your sports, they actually like your sportsmanship more, So I think sports athletes should bear more social responsibility.
Sina commonweal: from sports people to commonweal people, how to view the role change?
Hui Ruoqi: I don’t think I have any labels, but what potential Hui Ruoqi can extend. Maybe before, all my potential was in volleyball, in the women’s volleyball team, and burst out on this platform. Then in the future life, I think I need to show my other potential or create other value. This is my previous dream.
So in the new dream, I just hope to do everything well, whether it’s a sports public welfare person or if I have another career or a different career in the future.
