Gates' ex-wife first talked about the reason for divorce: I can't believe the problems we have

Melinda said in an interview with foreign media that their breakup was not the result of “impulse”.

In the interview, Melinda was asked about Bill Gates’ affair with an employee 20 years ago, which was confirmed by a spokesman for Microsoft’s co-founder last May.

“I certainly believe in the power of forgiveness, so I think we have solved some problems,” said Melinda, 57 Then she added: “it’s not a moment or a specific event. It’s just that at a point in time, there are enough things to make me realize that it’s unhealthy. I can’t believe the problems we encountered at that time.”

After 27 years of marriage, bill and Melinda broke up last May. In a joint statement at that time, the two sides said: “we no longer believe that we can continue to grow together as a couple in the next stage of their lives.” Melinda said in her divorce application that there was an “irreparable breakdown” in their marriage description, and then the two officially announced their divorce in August.

Looking back on the emotions she felt throughout the difficult process, Melinda said she “shed a lot of tears in many days”. At other times, she felt very angry. “That’s part of the sadness process. You’re sad about losing something you thought you had, something you thought you’d have all your life,” she said

Melinda said she now felt “beginning to enter another world” in her “healing journey”. “I feel like I’m turning a new page. I mean, it’s 2022 and I’m very satisfied with the future and my life now,” she said

Bill Gates, 66, reviewed his divorce process last December, saying 2021 was “the most unusual and difficult year of my life”.

Referring to their decision to continue working at the bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Bill wrote in an annual review blog post that after their separation, the two “have found a good new work rhythm”. He added: “but we can’t deny that this year has been a very sad year for me personally.”
