Will Smith resigns from the Academy

Recall that last weekend at the Academy Awards, Will Smith slapped Chris Rock over a joke about his wife’s medical condition. Prompting the body of the Academy to initiate disciplinary proceedings against him. In a statement on Friday, Will Smith announced that he has resigned from the Academy of Motion Pictures Art & Sciences.

“I am resigning from membership in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and will accept any further consequences the Board deems appropriate”.
