No. How extreme is this round of rainfall? Tribute by the Chief Executive!

From 18 to 23 April, a strong cooling air affected our country, calling “very cold”! Among them, there was a marked decline in temperature, snow and weather in the western part of Gansu, in the middle of the summer, in the chewing and in the mountainous areas, where temperatures exceeded 20°C! What are the extremes of this intense weather process? What is the impact on agriculture, transport and so on? All media correspondents of the China Meteorological Society have interviewed meteorological experts in the mountainous, coltan, Gansu, Ningsumado, bringing an authoritative reading!

Mountain: endemic snowstorms

Question: What are the characteristics of the snow-breeding process in the mountainous round?

Answer: Severe weather, such as winds, sand dust, typhoid, storms and snowstorms, which have been affected by heavy cooling, began on 20 April in the west of the mountains, and weather events are complex and varied, with long and accumulated rainfalls.

This cycle has several features:

Weather is complex and diverse. On 20 days, there was a spectacular wind in most mountainous areas; in some parts of the country, heavy rains were observed, local rains were even greater than snow, with a maximum snowfall of 18.1 mm and a snow depth of 24 cm.

The temperature decline was significant. The average temperature in most parts of the province declined by 12°C to 22°C, with the highest temperature falling by 16°C to 30°C and the lowest temperature by 8°C to 18°C.

Precipitation is complex. The north-west and central mountainous areas are dominated by snowfalls due to latitudes and altitudes. Temperature-affected mountainous areas in the central and southern parts of the country, when surface-to-night precipitation is converted from a liquid to a solid state, during the night to the day-to-day precipitation to a solid state, with a precipitation basin dominated. In the south-central region, snowfalls occurred in the late spring of the past.

Long-term, cumulative precipitation is significant. The rainy season has reached 2 to 3 days, with a cumulative precipitation of 15 national stations across the province of more than 50 mm and one station exceeding 100 mm. The cumulative precipitation of some sites in the south-west of the mountains reached or exceeded the precipitation threshold in late April.

Question: What is the impact of snowfall on mountain-west transport and agriculture?

Answer: Over the next two days, low-temperature weather will continue in mountainous areas, with skis in mid-central mountainous areas, in part to snowstorms. The rainy weather caused by this cold air is very favourable to increasing soil arsenic, purification of air and reducing the weather levels of forest fires, but the vast range of rains has a negative impact on agriculture and transport. Care needs to be taken to guard against the impact on public travel, such as wet, snow ice and low visibility, and to prevent the adverse effects of snowfalls on the facilities’ squatters as a result of sustained rains, reduced temperatures, adverse effects on the growth of plant crops and agricultural production.

Gandze: dust and temperatures

Question: What is the fact of this cooling?

Answer: Severe cooling air impacts, from 18 to 21 April, a multi-hazard weather surge in Gansu, with the emergence of weather conditions such as sandstorms, temperatures, precipitation, and high-to-emer flu. In addition to the western part of Gansu and the south, there were sand or sandstorms across the province, with 17 district sandstorms. Rainfalls occur throughout the province, causing heavy rains; strong precipitation and high precipitation have a certain negative impact on both fruit and spring crops.

Question: How did the meteorological sector respond to this process?

Answer: In response to this weather process, the Department of Meteorology of Gansu carries out an advanced warning service for early warning, and in 17 reports to provincial councils, provincial governments and relevant departments on major meteorological information alerts, timely release of sandstorms blue warning, typhoid blue warning, low-frozen risk warning. At 1800 hours, the Department of Meteorology of the Province of Gansu launched the emergency response of phase IV of the major meteorological safeguards (sandstorms, typhoids). The meteorological services at all levels are active in inter-departmental search and networking services.

Ning summer: precipitation is conducive to food production in the autumn.

Question: What are the characteristics of this round of snowfall?

Answer: From 19 to 23 April, during the summer, there were winds, sandstorms, typhoids, snowstorms and froze weather processes. At the same time, from 20 to 23 days, the Autonomous Region experienced a continuous rainy weather north of the South, characterized by a wide-ranging and long-term duration. Question: What is the impact of snowfall on transport, agriculture, etc.?

Answer: The south-central of Ning summer is affected by the persistence of low-mild rains, high altitudes with meteorological hazards for road skis or ice traffic, and the sectors concerned should focus on traffic safety, timely issuance of updated warning information on priority passages, and alert vehicle drivers to the maintenance of safe vehicle access and speed.

This precipitation process provides the necessary water slotting conditions for crop growth and seeding in autumn crops. However, the continual rain weather is likely to lead to inadequate access to the facilities, and it is recommended that effective artificial photo-referencing measures be adopted to regulate wet humidity in the squatters and to guard against all types of pests and diseases in order to ensure normal crop growth. At the same time, successive hypertensions, coupled with low temperatures, are not conducive to the production of flour for the economic nuts and to the production of fruit-bearing, and it is recommended that the fruit farming be prepared in advance for the prevention of further aggravating conditions.

West: such processes are rare in late April

Question: is this process extreme?

Answer: In the early hours of 20 April, extensive rain-fed weather was observed in the Province of Guinea. Between 0600 and 2300 hours a cumulative precipitation of 15 stations in the province exceeded 100 mm; a cumulative precipitation of 430 stations exceeded 50 mm. There were 49 violent rains in south-south Java; in the western part of the arsenic forest and in the northern part of the arsenic mountainous area, the snowfall depth was 4 to 10 centimetres. The process caused damage to some of the orchards’ network, damaged the orchards branch, and the pumping of fruit trees could result in reduced yields due to poor powdering.

Taken together, the weather process in West Java was characterized by intense temperatures, extensive snowfalls, heavy rains, long rains and long periods of low temperatures, and was sustained over time.
