Bread members have been active all over the internet sharing ideas, and we've rounded up plenty to read, watch, and argue about this weekend. We also want to hear what you're reading, so drop your favourites in Discord and let's talk about it.
Our most recent community call featured Updraft and founder Adam Stallard, where he presented a way we can fund democratic ideas without grant committees. The Bread Coop Cafe Discord channel is home to many insightful presentations, and this one got into many aspects of how a lot of our frustrations in crypto can be improved. Community Calls happen almost every week on Wednesdays, keep an eye out for the next one.
Breadfam Josh & Marv chatted on Is This The New Internet podcast about a range of topics close to cryptoleftist passions. Contents include debanking, a history of democratic economies, in-depth explainers of Bread and how our frustration with AI is actually frustration with capitalism.
Full episode available wherever you get your podcasts, shorts are on YouTube.
Josh wrote an article for Platform Cooperativism Consortium about the advantages of crypto that are often thrown out by the left because of how the tech/industry is perceived. It's a shared frustration for many in our space, and this is a helpful article to share with leftist friends who have dismissed crypto because of only having seen our worst actors.
Stefano Tortorici and R. Trebor Scholz make a compelling case in Jacobin for why cooperatives need to stop pretending they're apolitical. The piece argues that without co-ops actively aligning with unions and social movements, Big Tech wins by default. It asks hard questions about what it actually takes to build counterpower in the AI era, and doesn't let the cooperative movement off the hook.
And so ends our first-ever Bread Co-op Media Update! This is an open space where we'll continue to share updates, drop any articles you would like to be considered for inclusion on the Discord.
Till next time,
Solidarity forever ๐
