This week, Tereza Bizkova asked a tough question: what's holding ReFi back in Latin America?
Her answer probably won't surprise you. Here's part of it:
Failing to build tools that fit into existing behaviours provides communities with little incentive to shift to entirely new ways of interacting with money. Understanding what already works for them—and how to protect it and expand it—is a whole new way of approaching design. These efforts form the foundation that will determine everything: whether a project gains legitimacy, adoption, strong partnerships, funding, and ultimately, whether ReFi as a whole succeeds in the region.
It's somewhat hard to believe that we're still building solutions without a clear understanding of user realities, but here we are. This is a must-read if you're building in the ReFi space, regardless of region. We can't keep getting this wrong.
