Every group of humans establishes its own unique coordination patterns. These are complex, thick layers of back-and-forth between overlapping dyads and triads extending to the end of the universe.
You want efficiency? Centralise these patterns. Make sure all decisions flow through a small set of hubs, people acting like gatekeepers/bridge builders (same metric, different interpretation. Context matters). You get homogeneity of values, thoughts, and actions, an essential ingredient for efficiency.
You want stability? Create redundancy! cc or tag everyone (but go easy on those reply-all email chains...)
You want innovation? Break apart, seek new not familiar voices or dissident opinions. Go to the other side, those who have (not) signed your social contract, and try to truly understand why (not).
You want innovation, but it might be risky, and you don't want to kill the seed before it has had time to flourish? Talk and work with the friends of your friends.

I voted no to the new social contract imposed on Farcaster app (step 1: Law and order) users after the acquisition because I disagree with its top-down imposition on an existing community. Social contracts are unwritten social rules that emerge through interaction with others. They shape interactions and give rise to groups. Social contracts are a normal part of everyday life. Your family has a social contract, and so does your friend group.
The social contract now governing the flagship Farcaster app (the client) has been imposed on the community that has been using the client for yars. The transition was disruptive, isolating users who did not want to sign the pledge and who did not have alternative channels to contact their online friends. Even if you wanted to tell others, "I'm not aligned with the new social contract, but no hard feelings. Here is my telegram/email/twitter etc. Let's keep talking in other spaces", you couldn't. You voice was cut-off.
If this were an IRL community, those who did not want to vote yes would have had to pack their bags and leave, searching for another town to call home, while others move into your house.

Finally, thanks to the Chones community for connecting me to the right Telegram group in the time it takes to enjoy a wonderful glass of wine. And thanks for those who voted yes purposefully to advocate for those voices that are now missing on the app.
