September is approaching. At last Fridayβs growth circle meeting and potluck lunch, we could all sense stress levels rising. There was a certain agitation in the air, as Brussels is coming back to life after an unusually quiet summer. And although we feared the financial impact of the summer slowdown, we are grateful for the chance it gave us to rest and slow down.
The summer also brought quite some changes to the Hub. A few members are adjusting their membership plans due to new commitments and life changes. And Jana and Michaelβwho took care of our back-office finance and bookkeepingβare moving on to new paths. We will miss their daily contributions deeply and extend a heartfelt thank-you for their crucial work. ππ½
At the same time, weβre happy to welcome many new members. In fact, we are close to reaching our maximum capacity for the Shifters Planβour reduced rate plan at β¬100/month + 10 tokens/month members who come nearly every day and actively contribute to the community. We currently have 15, and our goal is to grow to 20. If youβre interested in joining, come along to a potluck or try a free coworking day on a Friday (register via our calendar). We have a few more spots for coworkers to join on our regular plan at β¬250/month + 3 tokens/month (tokens are our way to reward contributions to the community).
On September 1st, a new collective is joining, the Open Dialogue Foundation. Lyudmyla and her team will bring fresh energy and conversations around human rights and democracy. To welcome them, we made a significant logistical upgrade to the Hub, creating more space and comfort for everyone. We decorated a new room for them, the Freedom Tech Embassy.
πAnd our coziest space in the buildingβthe Angel Roomβ has transformed into a dedicated area for massages, one-on-one coaching and small group meetings. Member Tente has launched a community of facilitators and healers Omshana, and will start managing bookings for this room and curate Sunday programming, bringing even more circles, meditation, and healing into the program of the Commons Hub. If you are interested in joining this community, join here.
π€Two other communities are also getting organised in a much better way, with new experiments: themed coworking days. After a year of building a community of freelancers and providing space for them to work, weβve noticed that coworking as we know it might beβ¦ dead. (You can read Xavierβs blogpost on this topic here.) So, itβs time to iterate and follow where the energy flows.
Both the Brussels crypto community and the AI community will be testing this new format:
AI Belgium: gathering every Monday at 5pm on the first floor.
Crypto community: every first Wednesday of the month will be a free coworking day dedicated to crypto, followed by their regular meetup, Crypto Wednesday.
Our second year holds a lot of promise. Weβre welcoming new members every week, the space is evolving, and the programme is flourishing with diversity and creativity. Weβre building exciting partnerships with event organizers, universities, and leading experts in various fields. π₯
Much gratitude to everyone who keeps the Commons Hub aliveβa place of opportunity, experiment, and connection.
We hope to see you soon. π§‘

The talk explores how this dynamic fosters a harmonious human-AI relationship, grounded in cultural aesthetics and collective problem-solving.

The city of Brussels issued a call for projects around climate and in particular energy use. In the list of examples of projects that they would love to fund (up to β¬40,000 per project), there are many examples around organising events, movie projections, conferences, festivals, hackathons. Here is an opportunity to organise something at the Commons Hub!
