Electric vehicles are one of the fastest growing sources of new energy demand, and growth will continue to skyrocket. Electric vehicles also offer one of the largest untapped sources of power grid support. Managed EV charging, and eventually vehicle-to-grid energy support, will be major piece of any distributed energy network’s value.

Using DIMO to power energy applications for EV owners

That’s why we’re partnering with DIMO to use their open developer platform to power Daylight’s electric vehicle connectivity. DIMO is an open-source mobility platform where anyone can contribute data or build novel applications. It’s also one of the largest DePINs in the world, with over 100,000 vehicles connected to the platform and tens of thousands contributing to the community. In the not-so-distant future, Daylight and DIMO will enable every electric vehicle (EV) to connect to the Daylight network. 

Using DIMO’s powerful EV APIs, Daylight will eventually support all types of EVs, making clean energy and real-time energy management accessible to all EV owners. This is a huge win for the EV community, opening up new opportunities to earn by supporting power grids:

1. Intelligent Charging: Daylight will use real-time grid data and DIMO's vehicle information to optimize charging schedules. This means EVs will charge when energy is cleanest and most abundant, reducing strain on the grid and minimizing costs for owners.

2. Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) Integration: For compatible vehicles, the partnership will enable bidirectional energy flow. During peak demand periods, EVs can feed energy back into the grid, helping to balance load and earn rewards for their owners.

3. Dynamic Pricing Benefits: EV owners will be able to take advantage of dynamic energy pricing, charging when rates are low and potentially selling energy back to the grid when prices are high.

4. Enhanced Grid Stability: With a larger network of connected EVs, Daylight can provide more significant support to grid operators in managing demand fluctuations, particularly as renewable energy sources become more prevalent.
