We’re thrilled to announce the Sofia Coppola Short Film Award—an exciting new award dedicated to discovering and supporting an emerging filmmaker whose unique creative voice deserves to be championed today.
As Sofia said, "we love hearing from unique voices, and with the help and insight of the DCP community, we're confident that we will recognize a standout filmmaker."
What the award includes:
The selected recipient receives a package built to move a film forward:
$20,000 to produce a short
Mentorship support
Marketing and P&A support
Distribution of the completed film on DCP+
A confident visual sensibility, an instinct for storytelling that feels personal and unique to the filmmaker's identity.
The submission itself is straightforward: a short video sample representing your voice — a scene, a visual excerpt, or proof of concept — and a one-page project description for the film you want to make.
A pitch video is optional but encouraged! Who you are as a filmmaker, what inspired this project, who influences you and your craft.
Submission fee: $25 (includes moderation and peer review fees)
Your submission enters our community-driven platform, where peer reviewers evaluate each project on originality, visual quality, and unique voice. The community shortlists the finalists, then Sofia Coppola and the DCP Board select the recipient.

Submissions open: April 30, 2026
Submissions close: June 30, 2026 (extended if minimum submission count is not reached)
Community review ends: 14 days after submissions close
Recipient announced: ~14 days after community review ends
