Decentralized IDs (DIDs) are digital IDs where identifiers of individuals are replaced with self-owned IDs stored on the blockchain, and their associated data is stored on personal devices.

DIDs are used to prove an individual's identity and their rights to access data and services without disclosing unnecessary information to the service provider. Thus, giving back the power to what data is being shared with whom to the data subject, you!

These DIDs have numerous use cases such as enabling credible and private customer KYC, eVoting, tax payments, event check-ins, etc.

One recent use case of Fractal DID is the implementation in citizend DAO - a platform for fair project launches in the Polkadot ecosystem -  to enable a one-person-one-vote DAO and move beyond token governance in a privacy-preserving way.
