What is Degencast?
Degencast is a groundbreaking platform that integrates onchain content curation with a memecoin launchpad, seamlessly tied into the Farcaster social network. Our goal is to address the core issues of content curation, moderation, and incentives through a decentralized, community-driven approach. By combining the power of blockchain technology with social engagement, Degencast aims to create a vibrant and rewarding ecosystem for content creators and users alike.
How Degencast Works
Degencast operates through an onchain Content DAO, a decentralized autonomous organization that oversees content curation and moderation. Each channel on Degencast can launch its own unique token, which combines the features of ERC1155 and ERC20 standards. Users can stake $DEGEN tokens to submit proposals for new content. These proposals are then put through a community voting process. If a proposal is approved, the content is minted as part of the channel’s collection with a unique token ID.
The approved content can be minted on a bonding curve, which ensures fair pricing and value. Once the liquidity reaches a certain threshold, the channel curation token, also functioning as an ERC20 token, is launched on UniswapV3. This process incentivizes users to post high-quality content, as only the best content gets accepted and rewarded. Additionally, Degencast makes it easy to tip, mint, and trade within the app, ensuring a seamless and connected user experience. Users are notified when their friends mint or trade NFTs and tokens, fostering a dynamic and engaging community.

I've started thinking about building an alt-client less in terms of product and more as a problem of finding social context. the best alt-clients will enforce and encourage radically different social norms than @warpcast or Twitter do today (not a criticism of either) this kind alt-client will be a digital 'fourth space' outside of work, the home, and the regular internet. a good alt-client should stand for something: it might reject growth & engagement metrics, or remove algo-feeds entirely, favoring high-touch curation above predictive content delivery. Consumption might be the enemy. an alt-client might win with fewer, higher impact DAU minutes spent on-platform these aren't easy things to get right, but they are starting off points. an alt-client succeeds only as it becomes "embedded within--and promotive of--social life" (-sam hart)
I feel like I’m building something like this. It’s media first and built around curation. Not engagement. (Or farming) Tryna create an entirely different vibe. Like how Pinterest is different to instagram.
