AI emerges today as one of technology's rapidly advancing stars. However, for some, the potential dangers it brings evoke dystopian scenarios. People fear that AI's unchecked development could become so powerful and uncontrollable as to threaten humanity. I think, these fears often stem from our own reflections. AI's complex abilities and potential can trigger our primitive anxiety and insecurities. The rapid pace of technological advancement can make people feel out of control and perceive this situation as a threat. However, contrary to these fears, AI's real potential often lies in offering solutions to improve human life. Throughout history, concerns about technological progress have often proven surmountable, leading to new opportunities.
When considering psychotherapy, which focuses on deeply exploring the human experience in therapeutic processes, integrating technologies like AI becomes a significant topic. AI has significant potential in practical tasks such as analyzing session notes or objectively assessing therapist dynamics and processes, which can sometimes hinder sessions. This could offer supervisors a fresh perspective, as all therapists may find it challenging to fully observe their own processes at times. Of course, privacy and data ownership are critical considerations. Blockchain-integrated AI models could provide potential solutions for data security and privacy. This is just one example. Similar examples can be provided for various fields where artificial intelligence is thought to replace humans.
However, inevitably, losses await us. It seems to me that we are immersed in anticipatory grief. We experience both the anxiety of uncertainty about what could happen following losses and the sorrow of mourning for what we anticipate losing. Technology is advancing so rapidly, and as it does, the world is experiencing something akin to the primordial times, making it difficult for us to digest our experiences and process our emotions. Additionally, we are overwhelmed by diverse data from social media, unsure how to process it, and often try to ignore it but cannot escape its effects.
I think, technology also serves tools for us to see that humans have a tendency to turn areas where potential goodness and development could occur into something destructive. In the future, we may encounter situations where AI is misused, or where technology, like in all areas, continues to be used for destructive purposes. Every advancement also brings the potential for setbacks. Progress does not always create an impact akin to leveling up in a game. Historically, however, humanity has shown great resilience and creativity in the face of such setbacks and destructive challenges.
By understanding and leveraging potential benefits of technology, we can navigate its integration into our lives responsibly and constructively. But first, we must not forget our responsibility to be concerned about life, humanity, and world.
