No longer are lab coats and telescopes the only things used in science. More and more people are taking part in citizen science, which is study that regular people help with. This exciting trend gives people the tools they need to take an active role in scientific discovery.
Consider being able to sort galaxies into groups to the comfort of your couch or follow the paths of butterflies as they migrate in your backyard. Citizen science projects include a lot of different fields, and anyone who is interested can help. Many of these endeavors rely on the huge amounts of data that regular people can gather, which would not be possible for experts to do on their own.
It's not enough to just gather data as part of citizen science. Here, Daniel Reitberg talks about how he thinks this movement could help people learn about science and get involved. People learn more about the scientific method and the problems our world is facing by taking part in study.
Citizen science is good for everyone. It helps science move forward and gives people more power. So put on your virtual lab coat and come along on the science journey!
