As the name itself is suggesting a cryptocurrency is a digital currency that is other secured by a concept known as cryptography. A large function it has it to be a medium for the exchange within the peer to peer systems in economics. This relies on cryptography in order to prevent fraud and counterfeiting. A lot of the systems of cryptocurrency are decentralized and spread on nodes or a large network of computers. Though the amount of decentralization varies and some currencies have more than other depending on the structure of the network and distribution of nodes.
The decentralization means that the currencies cannot be controlled by one entity and do not rely on one authority like a government or bank. The financial transaction can occur between peer to peer users directly without needing intermediaries.
Unlike an economic system that is centralized, issuing and managing the units of cryptocurrency are determined by the structure of the network which itself is based on algorithms and proofs of cryptography. In other words there are predefined rules which define how the system operates.
The transactions get verifies through the communication of the nodes and the transactions that are confirmed get recorded permanently in a ledger that is publicly distributed also known as blockchain which is itself a core component and an underlying technology for the system of cryptocurrency.
Blockchain
The premier blockchain concept was formed in 2008 and implemented in 2009 as a component of the first cryptocurrency network also called bitcoin.
A blockchain consists of a chain of multiple blocks that are linked and secured cryptographically. Every block is made of a lot of components. It also contained among other things a list of the transactions happening recently and references to the block coming before it. The block which is validated contains a registered block of a complex math problem part of the mining process.
The technology can also be applied in the other activities that not necessarily involve the financial operation, however, in the context of cryptocurrencies they will be responsible for the keeping of permanent records of each confirmed transaction and work as a ledger that id decentralized, distributed and publicly available.
Simply said the blockchain is endless in growing as far as data records are concerned and they are secured through cryptography as well as being increasingly resistant to any change.
Bitcoin
The bitcoin was the premier cryptocurrency to be made and it was introduced in 2009 by the developer Satoshi Nakamoto. The main idea was for the creation of an independent and decentralized payment system based on math proofs and cryptography.
As is the case with most cryptocurrencies, the bitcoin is limited in supply meaning that bitcoins will not longer be generated by the system once the maximum supply of 21 million is reached. Usually the total supply is public and the bitcoin price and the supply can be checked on Binance Info.
The protocol for bitcoin is open source and anyone is capable of reviewing or copying the code and a lot of developers around the world contribute to the development of the project.
