Hey Film3 Fam,

Kristen here. We’re just 10 days away from the Film3 Festival, but we’re already looking ahead with a clear vision for what’s needed next year. Tonight’s DAO meeting gave us the space to reflect, strategize, and start shaping the future of Film3 together.

A Little History

As a filmmaker, I’ve seen far too many opportunities for in-person screenings go untapped. Our work deserves that IRL spotlight. So I made myself a promise: the next time a crypto or web3 event came around, I’d pitch a film festival.

When Kevin from Onchain Summit announced his event, I hopped on a couple of calls with him, and momentum took off. I run two studios—Flannel Donut and Pattern Integrity Films—but didn’t feel the festival should live under either. Instead, I started The Film3 Foundation to run that event.

Before launching, I checked the USPTO database for the festival name and discovered trademarks filed for “Film3.” That was our wake-up call: we needed to protect our work, our creative freedom, and the community we’ve known for so long. The solution was to form the Film3 DAO, built in public and shaped by the people who care about Film3’s future. The fight continues as we oppose these Trademarks, but from the ashes the DAO will grow.

Time: 4:00–5:15 PM

Festival 2025 Stats:

• 36 submissions → 31 accepted (short films, animation, documentary).

• Films came in from around the world, with creators finding us through Zora, LinkedIn, X, and Instagram.

• A few feature-length entries were turned away due to time constraints—next year, we might be able to host longer formats and across multiple days.

Key Roles for 2026:

• Jury Panel for Film Selection

• Submissions Outreach Lead (LinkedIn, FilmFreeway, etc.—yes, LinkedIn brought in some gems!)

• Sponsorship Lead

• Ticket Sales Team

• Speaker & Panel Curation Team

2026 Festival Goals:

• Add awards & grants for filmmakers

• Offer workshops in filmmaking, animation, and writing

• Relaunch NAX as a Film3 Hackathon (!!), with 48 Hour Film Teams premiering films at the festival, competing for awards

DAO Post-Festival Goals:

• Establish governance for next year’s festival

• Continue writing The Book of Film3 (this is a fun collaboration! Get in here!)

• Continue to develop the workbook & global film school curriculum

• Explore online courses & workshops

Community Plans:

• DAO to host regular, scheduled Twitter Space: Wednesday 1 pm pst

• Sign up new DAO members at the festival via QR codes

• Move from Discord → Telegram for a simpler, more manageable community hub
