People have been asking me what film3 is for years.

At festivals, in DMs, after panels, at events with filmmakers who sense something shifting. What is film3? How does it work? How do I get involved? I've answered the question more times than I can count — in conversations, in twitter spaces, on stages, over coffee, over beer, in articles, the list goes on. Every time, I gave the best answer I had. But a passing conversation was never going to be enough.

So I wrote the book.

This is my story. My perspective. What I've built, what I've learned, and what I believe is possible when filmmakers stop waiting for permission and start building the infrastructure themselves. I've been doing this for years — making films, minting assets, launching tools and tokens, and building onchain production systems that didn't exist before I needed them. Watch/Make/Own/Automate. That's the framework. The book is about how I got there and what it means. It's about what I see coming — for indie film, for creators, for the infrastructure we're building together. And it's about how a simple mindset shift is all it takes to begin.

It's not a universal playbook — film3 doesn't have one of those yet, and anyone who tells you otherwise is selling something. What it is, is an honest account of what works for me, why it works, and how you can find your own version of it. The on-ramp is real. The tools are being built in public. The community is here. You don't have to start from zero.

I wrote this for the filmmaker who is ready to own their work, fund their next project differently, and build something that lasts beyond a single release. I wrote it because the question "what is film3" deserves a full answer.
