Greetings Fellow Earthlings, Creators, Listeners and Frens,
Welcome to Flooting Grooves Web3 Portal Entry#003.
The Portal is an ever evolving idea that incorporates:
1. Flooting Grooves & Family content - i.e. Flooting Grooves musical content which features a) new tracks, b) mixes and/or c) sketches, all of which are accompanied by some form of visual artwork.
What does that mean exactly? Let’s unpack.
a) New tracks are complete tracks written and produced by Flooting Grooves (or collabs with other artists too) which either stand alone or make up a collection or album over time.
b) Mixes are live or studio performances of Flooting Grooves music, usually but not always accompanied by a ‘live’ element i.e. flute, synth or other instruments.
c) Sketches are spontaneous recordings, often done outdoors or in a beautiful setting with minimal or no editing in post production.
2. Our journey together into the fascinating and ever-changing landscape of Web3.
It isn’t initially easy to understand what that means exactly, since there isn’t a clear, defined space that can be called such. It is instead a new way of approaching the internet. To understand what Web3 is, we need to look at Web2 first. Here we saw the advent of giants like Google, YouTube and Facebook who both brought unprecedented access to information for everyone. Despite being an obvious gamechanger to the internet space, it brought with it a shadow aspect. Data harvesting and exploitation. On the surface we were all excited about being able to ask any question to Google (the term ‘to Google’ was born). While seemingly a postive step for humans in information technology, what we weren’t told was that by asking google a question, it could link your personal information (through your google account) to the questions you ask, to then ‘suggest’ other similar questions or products. While one could say that this is just another form of business, it holds a more sinister aspect whereby Google actually stores this info - personal info + choices made or websites visited. This so-called metadata can then be extracted or exploited at scale, for the purpose of profit. A good example of this was the Cambridge Analytics scandal involving Facebook. The ability to monitor literally everything we do online for financial gain is also known as Surveillance Capitalism. Privacy is a Human Right as stated in Article 12 of the Declaration of Human Rights.
Enter Web3
Web3 brings Data Sovereignty, the ability to own and fully control how our data is used. So through this one aspect of Web3 you can see the ethical value of a more egalatarian approach to information access. Excited as I am? This also extends to the financial aspect of Web3 aka Cryptocurrency.
But how is this possible? The answer is Blockchain…
More on that in the next entry.
For more info and resources refer to previous entries. I will also post further resources on Web3 below.
This entry’s embedded NFT is the sketch ForestSesh#2, the second part of the encounter between Flooting Grooves and Zenn aka Almost a Sin.
A man of many talents, Zenn is a multi-instrumentalist, loop artist and all round free spirit. Like me he has emerged himself into the world of music-making combined with technology. In this sketch he plays Didgeridoo, while I play my obviously favourite instrument, the flute. This encounter however only uses technology for the recording aspect. No manipulation was applied to this, only basic mastering, keeping the experience authentic, spontaneous and natural.
Remember if you want to support us here, the best way is to mint this Entry as an NFT here on paragraph, then collect the embedded NFT on sound.xyz. by pressing the "collect" button above. Collecting each entry and embedded NFTs will bring rewards in the future. Remember Mint/Collect is the new ‘Like’ in Web3.
