nyone who has ventured at least a little into the world of Web3 and Crypto knows how problematic it is to deal with long and unreadable cryptocurrency wallet addresses and SmartContracts. For anyone who doesn’t know what I’m talking about, I’ll show it with an example.
Here is the address of my cryptocurrency
wallet:0x4b4ac246F28221f6Db4bE27C276449d34286b8fIf
anyone wants to send me any funds, they must be sure not to misplace any characters (or copy this address well). Otherwise they will be sent to an unknown address and will most likely be lost forever. The situation with difficult addresses is similar to IP addresses pointing to specific servers. None of us can probably imagine having to type 216.58.209.14 instead of typing google.com.The so-called Domain Name System (DNS) is responsible for translating IP addresses into human-understandable names. Before a browser displays a web page, it asks this system to translate the Web Domain into the IP address where the resources to be displayed to the user are located.Web3 needed a similar solution for addresses.... and so a solution called ENS was born:https://ens.domainsBy using ENS, we can purchase a Web3 ‘domain’ that points to our address on the Ethereum network. More and more cryptocurrency wallets and Web3 applications and browsers support ENS and allow us to use clear address names. In my case, this is the address: szymonpaluch.eth
and it is also available as a domain: szymonpaluch.eth.xyzThe ENS domain is granted in the form of an NFT token and is paid for like regular domains for a limited period of time.An interesting alternative to ENS has also been developed:So far it is less popular, but has some interesting features. It also tries to operate outside the Ethereum network and allows you to buy a domain for an unlimited period of time, which is closer to the idea of Web3 , where by buying a domain you become its rightful owner and not just rent it.https://unstoppabledomains.com/Anyone who spends a little longer in the Web3 world will sooner or later recognise the convenience of solutions such as ENS or UnstoppableDomains.
